Drudge Report ^ | Thursday, July 12, 2012

**Exclusive**

Late Thursday evening, Mitt Romney's presidential campaign launched a new fundraising drive, 'Meet The VP' -- just as Romney himself has narrowed the field of candidates to a handful, sources reveal.

And a surprise name is now near the top of the list: Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice!

The timing of the announcement is now set for 'coming weeks'.

MORE

It was Condi who received two standing ovations at Romney's Utah retreat a few weeks ago, and everyone left with her name on their lips.

Rice made an extended argument for American leadership in the world.

Look who we have as the nominee. Like I told al, we are so totally screw. We either go towards the fiscal cliff and tyranny with 0bama at warp speed, or we go towards the fiscal cliff and tyranny with Romney at impulse speed.

Maybe the Lord is signaling that the next American Revolution is nigh.

In case anyone is watching this is nothing other than Romney trying to change the narrative. The Romney boat is taking on water. The pumps can’t keep up.

We all agree ( I think ) that the one issue that Romney can and needs to win on is the economy. The Bain attacks, which were previewed during the primaries, are devastating. Politics 101, attack your competitors strength and make it a weakness. Obama in 07 destroyed McCain on foreign policy and at the end polled better on the subject. Bain was Romney’s strength. He is a business man and will turn economy. What has happened? A pew poll today asked the question. Last month Romney up 8 on economy. Today down 7. Regardless of what the truth is Romney has no answers and is being killed. Ads in swing states have moved polls. It has only got worse. This campaign could already be over. VP? Hell what conservative wants to board the titanic?

Old saying in golf, can’t win tournament on Thurseday but can certainly lose it. I am pretty well convinced Obama was given another term in the primaries when this idiot was coranated. He is a lousy campaigner and the Dems are taking him apart. Just my opinion although factually based by polling.

How many feet does Romney have to put in his mouth? He seems determined to lose.

Those social “issues” are what is driving us over the fiscal cliff.

Rasmussen: Bain attacks not working

"Will the strategy of highlighting Mitt Romney’s track record at Bain Capital do more to damage the Republican nominee, or Barack Obama? A poll by Rasmussen suggests that it might do more damage to Obama’s re-election efforts than it will to his challenger. Only 33% of a sample of 1,000 likely voters say that Romney’s record at Bain was a reason to vote against him, while 44% believe it boosts his candidacy"

Sorry Mitt, but the last thing we need is another four or eight years listening to Condoleza Rice blaming Israel for everything, and taking it to task when it protects it’s citizens from terrorism.

Heaven forbid this woman ever be president.

She would disagree with my characterization of her, but it’s dead on the mark IMO.

If one buys into the polls you are, I assure you that any other candidate that was in the Republican primaries would be doing much, much worse than Romney right now.

I’m no supporter of that, never have been.

I strongly suspect your quite tolerant of it though. Gee, Christ really isn’t running? Would you know him if he was?. There are plenty of choices who better reflect Christ’s view of unborn children much better than your perfectly RINO choice.

This just in: Bain attack still not working

"Two analyses from the flawed WaPo/ABC poll, as well as spending in swing states, deliver grim news to Team Obama this morning. Their main line of attack in which they hope to paint Mitt Romney as an uber-rich vampire capitalist clearly isn’t moving the needle among voters — and that’s true despite an overwhelming spending advantage Barack Obama has enjoyed in the early going. Unless they can come up with a better argument, Romney’s fundraising will shortly put them in a very big hole."

"For all the attention paid to the effectiveness of President Obama’s Bain-themed attacks, it’s remarkable how Obama has been stuck right around 47 percent for a very long time. As the Washington Post‘s Chris Cillizza documented, the president’s team has handily outspent Romney and his allied super PACs, pouring in $91 million into eight swing states in an early spending barrage intended to make Romney seem an unacceptable challenger. But for all that effort, the numbers haven’t moved much at all: The latest ABC News/Washington Post poll out today shows the race deadlocked at 47 percent. Yesterday’s USA Today/Gallup swing state poll showed Obama statistically tied with Romney, the exact same result the survey showed one month ago...Even the WaPo/ABC poll shows that half of voters don’t care, and only 24% in a sample with 33% being Democrats think it constitutes a reason to vote against Romney. If that’s the best option for Obama, he’s in deep trouble."

You can flame me if you wish. I look at ALL polls not just the ones we like. To think that there is no effect is to say it bluntly naive.

Good grief. Drudge puts out a rumor and people in here immediately go into panic. No way Romney picks her. Way too much baggage from the Bush years. I can see him considering Jindhal, but not Rice. And I very much doubt Rice would even want the job.

Which rather plaintively says Christie, which could only happen if Mitten's robots (no less than 3!) he planted on then Sen-elect Rubio's staff uncovered some sort of a dealbreaker in the interim...

"Florida Sen.-elect Marco Rubio announced his top staff, which included three former Romney campaign hands. Sally Canfield, who served as Romney's policy adviser, will be Rubio's legislative director and chief policy adviser; Joe Pounder, who was in charge of rapid response for Romney, will be Rubio's communications director; and Alex Burgos, who directed specialty media for Romney, will serve as director of media affairs for Rubio." -- RCP/Time, Jan. 4, 2011"

I admire Ms. Rice.

I’m probably echoing what other posters have already said (too tired to read the entire thread, lol), but I think Rice would be a mistake as VP. I like her quite a bit, and have a lot of respect for her. I don’t think she is what the Romney camp, needs, however:

-Romney already has credibility issues with conservatives (to put it lightly). Rice’s views are unknown, but it’s been long suspected she is of the moderate to liberal wing of the GOP, especially on social issues. If that is the case, then she hurts more than she helps.

-Rice’s personal life will be pried into with a viciousness that made the smears against Palin look like child’s play. Beltway and liberal media rumors about whether Condi was straight or gay have been circulating since she arrived on the scene. Rice says she is not, and frankly I never cared one way or the other, as it had little to do with her work at either NSA or SecState. But you can just bet Obama’s surrogates (MSNBC, Larry Flynt, etc.) will run with that line of attack, and the truth be damned.

-If it is foreign policy experience or a woman Romney wants on the ticket, there are other GOP options for both.

Tell you what, I will be here. We can argue about polling metrology or what the national numbers are. State by state polls are not going well. National numbers are fun to watch but we have 50 elections and I see a disturbing trend. Hey, I could be wrong not the first time. I see it coming though.

Hey Mitt the light at the end of the tunnel? It just might be a train.
