The head of the Islamist group Hamas in the Gaza Strip said on Friday he was confident Egypt's new president would shield the Palestinian enclave from Israeli attack and fully open its borders to end a trade blockade.
Mohamed Mursi, who won power in last month's presidential election in Egypt, is a member of the Muslim Brotherhood and ideologically close to Hamas.
The Gazan Islamists long complained that his predecessor Hosni Mubarak, ousted from power last year in a popular revolt, sided not just with Israel, but also with their political rival - Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah movement.

Israel’s response could be simple indeed. If the Egyptians open the border with Gaza, then they are fully responsible for everything that happens in Gaza. This was Mubarek’s big motivation, that he absolutely did not want a bunch of worthless Paleos in Egypt.
Don’t forget ‘73. They still regard that as a “victory” because they got the Sinai back as a concession. Nevermind the fact they got outmaneuvered, outfought, and had their entire 3rd Army between the Israeli hammer and anvil.

Open the border? Egypt can do that? I though Gaza's isolation was all Israel's fault. As to "protecting" Hamas, probably not a good idea.
It occurs to me that, if TSHTF, that M1 factory in Egypt is history. I hope we get any Americans working there out first.
