Was this the reason why James Holmes investigation was sealed?
University of Colorado at Anshutz ^ | 07-22-2012 | self

Aurora's mass murderer James Holmes, would appear was working with this program that turns out was linked to a Government contract investigating and mitigating the effects of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder via the Department of Physiology and Biophysics, Neuroscience Graduate Program, University of Colorado at Anshutz Medical Center, Aurora, Colorado. Link to the book Nerve Growth Factors: Advances in Research and Application: 2011 Edition that makes direct referrence to the contract.

Holmes did succeed academically as an undergraduate at the University of California at Riverside, graduating with honors in a neuroscience program that is considered very demanding. He then won a spot at the prestigious neuroscience doctoral program at the University of Colorado’s Anschutz Medical Campus.

Holmes was in his first year as a graduate student, living off a $26,000-a-year stipend — part federal grant, part university funding. In keeping with those modest means, he rented an 800-square-foot (74-square-metre) apartment in a scruffy neighborhood a short walk from the medical campus.

But he recently quit the program. A person who works in the neuroscience lab said Holmes did not join the other doctoral students at an end-of-the-year celebration in a local pub. Instead, a professor stopped by the impromptu party to tell everyone that Holmes had withdrawn from the program, with the clear implication that he had fallen behind academically, this source said.

The university declined to release his academic records, citing privacy rules.

Perhaps he was trying the nerve growth factors on himself? Total wild speculation on my part, but he wouldn’t be the first college student to try brain enhancers...

It sounds to me like they were studying the effects of chemistry on the developing brain, and were measuring the effects altered chemistry has on the electrical conduction processes within the developing brain of zebrafish.

If they could come up with a cure for PTSD, that would be awesome.

That all aside, I wonder what a jury rendering would be if it turns out that this guy was under a brain altering experiment?

If it turns out that that’s the case, If I were on a jury with only the facts we’ve been presented with thus far, I’d have to award him life in the nut house. There’s no telling if he would ever be normal again, and I wouldn’t want him exposed to society again.

In fairness, “funded by the government” might not mean anything nefarious. There’s a whole industry in academia geared toward grant writing, particularly at the graduate level. It’s how a lot of programs get funded. I think the guy might just be a fruitcake like Loughner, albeit smarter. I haven’t paid any attention to the MSM coverage of the story, but if there is still talk of an accomplice that could be a reason for sealing.

He’s just a kook who thinks he is living a movie.
Hinkley was similar no?

I don’t need government conspiracy to explain nuts.

Indeed...I am just speculating. However first reports about his research was in this exact area.

Here is a link about BDNF and PTSD...now to bed.

Problem I was having is browser related. Will try it on my primary computer tomorrow. That machine has been down for 3 weeks. Got it working again tonight, but am doing system updates on it now.

Thanks for the article.

You may be confusing the methods of the Federal gov't to obfuscate an d disseminate with those of the State of Colorado to preserve evidence as well as the integrity of the court. This clown goes to be arraigned tomorrow morning....and the counts are adding up. His lawyer will enter a plea then the fun will begin, seemingly endlessly.

The investigation has just begun so let's not leap to discovery.

How do you know he was involved in this research?

This is not the only neuroscience program at CU. Holmes was only in his first year as a PHd candidate which means he would have been taking most of his core course work rather than doing any original research. You are extrapolating from nothing

Nah listen since I still can't sleep, a few things don't add up.

One is upon learning that her son was implicated in this murder the Mother said that she was not surprised. Yet others that knew him were shocked thinking that he would never or could never to something like that. My read on that it was a personality change recently enough that only a mother or father would recognize.

Secondly, the FBI reported earlier this week that he did not fit any of their three known models for serial/mass murderers but perhaps a bit of all three.

No conspiracy theory here...just saying things are not right.

Yeah actually he was. Just like Ted Kazinski and any other really smart folks ( by book standards) who never learn how to fit in. This guy was just another nut

Not true...as far as what I read this weekend he was not just a phd candidate but was knee deep in RNA and disease and trauma of the brain.

That is my leap there though...Reports also talked of him giving a lecture on such or was about to.

You are spending too much time trying to make a completely irrational nuts act have some sane meaning. It has none the man is a nut job.... probably from drinking and drug use (Vicodin) if the reports are accurate. This is no doubt why he had to drop the program because he had become just the common garden variety druggie/drunk

It may have been what he wanted to be knee deep in but first year PHd students spend more time in class than any lab and they spend time getting their committee together for consideration of the research they plan to do..... If you;d been through a program you would know

Of course things are not right, but the Colorado judge is not necessarily wrong. All of your concerns will be investigated and do not need the meddling of the media contaminating discovery or the possible jury pool.

Not a conspiracy.....wish Colorado would put him on trial next month and be done with it.
