Syria’s Next Act
The Daily Beast ^ | 19 July 2012 | Eli Lake

With the days and weeks of the Syrian government appearing numbered, the Central Intelligence Agency is scrambling to get a handle on the locations of the country’s chemical and biological weapons, while assessing the composition, loyalties, and background of the rebel groups poised to take power in the event President Bashar al-Assad falls.

Whether or not sensitive weapons technology was moved to Syria is a hotly disputed question in the intelligence community. James Clapper, now the Director of National Intelligence and formerly the director of the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency, said in 2003 that he believed materials had been moved out of Iraq in the months before the war and cited satellite imagery.

Wait a damn minute! Hold the phone! For how many years now have we heard that Saddam Hussein didn’t have any WMD’s? That it was all in Bush and Chaney’s fevered imagination?

Were the democrats and MSM lying then or are they lying now?

If the Syrian Christians get slaughtered by a new Muslim Brotherhood Syrian government, will Obama send a strongly worded letter or express his condolences?

Maybe he’s not quite as big a tool as I’ve always seen him to be.

Nah...

Members of Congress were fully aware that WMDs and as much of the production infrastructure were moved out of Iraq before the war.

Bush's diplomatic pressure forced Saddam's suppliers and allies to push him to remove the WMDs for safe keeping and to hide them from International inspectors. Bush basically told Saddam's allies and enablers that if US forces were attacked by WMDs he would consider it an act of war by the country that originally supplied the Iraqis with the weapons and technology and that the United States would respond in kind.

Saddam had outsourced some of his WMD efforts to Syria and funded them with off the books oil for food money to avoid the Inspectors and much of his WMD stockpiles went there in the run up to the Iraq war.

Assad is now threatening to use those weapons if he is about to lose the Syrian civil war and there is also Assad's implicit threat to expose the details of the WMD transfers from Iraq and the fact that Congressional Democrats, not the least of whom is Joe Biden, knew full well that Saddam really did have WMDs and they were all moved out before the war because of George Bush's “cowboy” pressure on the countries supplying Saddam with WMDs. Because of this, no WMDs were used against US and coalition troops during the Iraq war because they long gone.

This did not stop the Democrats and their media allies from cynically lying about the Iraqi WMDs and attacking the Bush Administration with the whole “Bush lied, people died” BS story.

Assad no doubt has the evidence to to document the whole back story on the WMD exodus from Iraq and proof that these same Democrats had full knowledge of the transfers and then lied to the American people about Saddams’ WMDs for personal political gain to the great detriment of America's Foreign Policy standing in the world.

Unlike all other Arab states in the “ Arab Spring”, Obama has actively supported Assad or at the very worst remained neutral in the Syrian civil war.

It's possible that the reason for this is that Assad has been blackmailing Obama with treats to expose the WMD scam and expose the lies of the Democrats and the media.

We may be in the end game of this because it seems that the truth about the WMDs is beginning to be leaked out by our government before either the truth comes out or the weapons are used either by Syria or terrorists. Of course, it will all be Bush's fault.

"Blackmail...very interesting."
It appears to be among the few things the Kenyan and his goon squads excel in.

It is unbelievable the amount of psychological warfare being thrown around right now. Guess that is normal just prior to a World War lighting up. To illustrate.

Obama claims that the WMD in Syria are the responsibility of the Syrian government. Not the rebels causing all the problems. If the rebels succeed, would they not then be the ones responsible for the WMD ?

And, lets turn the table a little bit. Assume a Civil War was occurring within the US. The Feds have lost control of a couple cities and some territory. Would Obama claim that the safety of the US WMD are the responsibility of the US government ? Would he also claim that if he had to use the WMD on the rebels, that it would be his fault ? Never in a million years.

Points well taken. I think we both have the correct answer to your hypothesis. This whole administration has given me very bad feelings on so many accounts. I believe they grossly exceed the Jimmity Cata gang, and to a lesser degree the Clinton gang. The likes of Susan Rice, Hillary Clinton, Samantha Powers to name but a few in key positions in the foreign affairs areas, not to mention what bullshit Valarie Jarret, Jack Lew, Janet Napolitano and others feed into the Kenyan's brain to react to.
Scary times on so many fronts.

IMHO - This diplomatic scheme to remove Assad has failed spectacularly. They thought they would get the UN vote. They thought they would get NATO to back intervention. They thought the assassination attempt would kill Assad. Fail. Fail. Fail. Most people after swinging and missing three times would excuse themselves and allow the next hitter to take the plate. Not Obama. Not Emperor Zero. Syria's WMD’s were never supposed to be a consideration according to their plans. So now that their plans has forced a wounded Assad into a corner and have given him justification from his own supporters to use any means necessary, Obama realizes he messed up big time. GWB showed the correct way to initially tackle a tyrant with possible WMD. Obama has shown the world the absolute incorrect way. So now rather then admit failure, Obama tells Assad that the world is watching Assad and he should not use his chemical WMD. Everything Obama says has a purpose. He is deflecting his failures onto Assad. Everyone was watching Obama’s method to tackle Assad. Everyone now realizes what a horrific failure Obama has become.

There is an alternative scenario.....

Obama is irrelevant and the fight against Assad is being conducted very well and effectively under the leadership of others. They are the Arab league led by the GCC and Turkey. Within Syria there are certainly Qatari special forces advising the rebels. These forces are American trained. American Special forces are trained to develop and advise local forces. In the Syrian battle, the concept is carried one step further. Well trained allies do the advising rather than Americans

The various forays into the UN were merely firing for effect. They knew they would not be successful but had to go through the motions. That they did. Once the UN exercises were complete, the battle began in earnest and is now achieving success.

We like to assume we are informed by the various media but the fact is, we know little about what the rebels are really doing.

Yes. Instead of sending US troops into Syria to safely nullify the WMD, the US leadership has decided to use their Sunni Islamic surrogates in Turkey, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Qatar. The reason we could not use US troops is because our leadership is progressive and their core support would revolt. The other alternative of course was to not support the uprising in Syria just like the Obama administration did not support the uprising in Iran.

In the history of the world, this has never been done before. Use surrogates to invade and topple a regime that possesses WMD. Who thought such an idiotic plan would succeed ? And if this idiotic plan even succeeded, what was to become of the WMD ? Check the following links for answers to some of these questions and possibly more....

Does the CIA really have no idea about the nature of Syria's rebels?

-——the US leadership has decided to use their Sunni Islamic surrogates -———

The assumption in this statement is the Arabs are acting as Obama directed. That is fallacious. They acted in their own interest knowing the dithering Obama was incapable of action.

Iran is and always has been a serious threat to them. Taking out Syria destroys a big increment of Iranian influence. What America wants or needs in the region is secondary to countering Iran. They are ascendent in a world where Europe is withering.
