WCCO (CBS Minnesota) ^ | July 24, 2012 | Pat Kessler

Posted on 07/24/2012 10:25:51 PM PDT by voteNRA

A Minnesota congressman is calling for important changes to federal firearm laws in the wake of the movie theater massacre in Colorado.

Democrat Keith Ellison says the U.S. should not just restrict assault weapons but it should also set limits on some gun clips, ammunition and body armor.

“Reasonable gun controls,” Ellison said. “It’s time.”

Ellison said Tuesday that you don’t need a bulletproof vest and an assault rifle to go hunting. He’s supporting laws to restrict some of the items the Colorado shooter used in his deadly rampage. .....

"I saw a report in the National Post that said he was wearing full body armour and a tactical helmet"

Problem is, anything simply colored black is defined as "tactical" in the eyes of the left-press.

For all the tragedy that this jackass committed, I would suggest that the family car and pool kill way more on a yearly basis.

I would suggest that any major city (dem controlled) gets this body count every week. Chicago last weekend had high body count from urban ferals shooting each other and innocent bystanders.
I believe i saw an article recently stating that Chicago had more gun deaths than Afghanistan.
And remember that Chicago has most restrictive gun laws in nation- Pols, criminals and ne’er dowells have guns, police also but not ordinary tax paying citizens.

I have a better solution - any politician that decides to restrict freedom should be immediately subjected to recall election- let the people decide if should stay or go, if goes bill goes down also

...the initial armor plates that were reported would be hard to deal with
No offense, but Poppycock!

Anyone who has ever slaughtered an animal for cooking/eating knows how deadly a knife can be.

Even the simplest of folding blades in the right hands can kill, even against an armored opponent.
Slice at neck/throat, collar bone, upper arm, inner thigh to hit an artery or stab right through the bloody eye or even into the temple.

Sometimes you just have to get medieval in both thought and deed to defend your life or the life of others!

I hear you, but the Post is not leftie. Just sayin’, but the Post doesn’t have the usual bias so if there’s inaccuracies it’s due to lack of info not bias.

They showed a receipt from tacticalgear.com dated July 2. I listed the Blackhawk Urban Assault Vest (a fearsome named for a souped up fisherman’s vest), two ammo pouches, and a knife.

Here’s the vest. Look at the specs. NOT body armor as sold to holmes.

If that is what he was wearing, even if he put plates in the pockets, it’s not a great help. If he had some real armor, they have not told where he got it.

Who opened that door?

Initially, some stories said he kicked the door in. Right. Have any of those reporters ever tried kicking in a steel door in a steel frame?

Some guns aren’t necessary for hunting, but then again, I’ve never been oppressed by deer or elk.

That's prety ich- a guy who was a member of the Nation of Islam - knowing what all crimes that group has been up to it ears in, from petty stuff right up to assassinations and the Zebra killings ... and he wants more gun control.

Gee, wonder why? Could it be because it would make it easier for terrorists to terrorize an unarmed or inadequately armed people? His campaign was sponsored by CAIR, which is a front group of Hamas, a terrorist group that thinks blowing up busses full of schoolchildren is fair play.....

Gee, wonder why he wants more gun control imposed on law abiding American citizens?

Then his Washington DC prayer group the CMSA, invites in such notables to speak and pray with as the infamous Anwar al Awlaki, the inspiration behind the Ft Hood Massacre, the Undybomber who tried to take down a flight full of people ...

And also invited Randall Royer, who got jail time for his terrorist activities linked with the Paintball cell in Virginia ...

Gee, why would more gun control rules against law abiding Americans be a good thing in his eyes?

Or maybe both of those decisions should be left to their parents, and not the state.

Wait just a minute...assault weapons are illegal for the general public to own now. So are bullet proof vests, one is required to show a military ID or LEO ID before you can buy the plates that make it work.

Clips and ammo are red herrings. I call your attention to the 100 round drum that the kid had on his AR, it jammed as this mag is very prone to do. It really didn’t do anywhere near the damage he apparently hoped for.

Ammo is heavy. The 6,500 rounds that he had cached in his apartment had no bearing whatsoever in the actual shooting. I can’t be sure how much 6,500 rounds would weigh, but I know how heavy 400 rounds of 7.62x51 in an ammo can is. I can carry 4 of them, but not very far.

I completely agree that the gun laws in this country are in need of review. Such as the law permitting this theater to deny it’s patrons their ability to defend themselves from a maniac that the management was unable to prevent from entering the theater.

Has anyone else noticed that these mass shootings only occur in places where guns are forbidden? Like this theater, like the gun free zone at Columbine, like Ft. Hood where soldiers are forbidden from possessing a firearm on base. You never hear of a police station being shot up. Have you ever heard of anyone cutting loose at a gun club? Or how about a bar or restaurant now that we can carry in those places, would you really want to step into an area where you didn’t know who had a gun and who didn’t if you were determined to kill everyone in the place?

No, they want their victims safely disarmed so as not to disturb their rampage. Heaven forbid that somebody might just start shooting back. They could get hurt.

Ellison, Keith a/k/a Keith Hakim a/k/a Keith Ellison-Muhammad a/k/a Keith X Ellison : A democrat, a civil rights lawyer; a convert to Sunni Islam

There's nothing that inspires more confidence than knowing that your congressman has multiple aliases!

[BEFORE 1998] : (KEITH ELLISON {CMSA, NoI, FUTURE US CONGRESSCRITTER} ATTENDS U OF MN WITH NIHAD AWAD {see CAIR}, & IBRAHIM HOOPER {see CAIR} ; AWAD AND HOOPER WOULD SOON ASSUME LEADERSHIP POSITIONS WITH THE MN-BASED "CHARITY" THE BOSNIAN RELIEF COMMITTEE)

Resonable gun control according to Ellison: We have them, you don’t.

“Saw some polls - the numbers are good (for us), with over 60% AGAINST more “reasonable” gun control...”

Then about 40% of Americans are sheep, fish in a barrel waiting to happen—not good.

How about reasonable restrictions on Muslims in the
US - they’ve certainly killed more victims than Holmes?

Besides, all exit doors are required to open outward as a consequence of the Cocoanut Grove fire. Therefore, he would have been kicking AGAINST the frame!

Those people should file a lawsuit against the media if those girls are being harassed.
I still think the media’s “over reporting” of this tragedy is actually in hopes of a copycat incident. Certainly reminds me of Don Henley’s song “Dirty Laundry” and I believe it was written in the early ‘80’s.

The Second Amendment is NOT about hunting.

It’s about defending ourselves and our families from criminals and enemies, foreign *AND* domestic.

Ellison’s Moslem fellow-travelers are all of the above.
