While you cannot buy a fully-automatic AK-47 without a Class III Federal Firearms Licence, you can buy a semi-automatic AK or AK-clone very easily. People even manufacture them here in the States. To wit:

Wrong. All lawful citizens should have one if they choose whether they’re “on the streets” or not.
Expect a bipartisan push for approval, followed by the banning of all guns. The Elite see dark clouds on the horizon, and don't want the little people to be able to get to them.

He betrays his biases. The way he states it, the only alternative to soldiers having AK-47s is for “crooks” to have them. So, he really views all civilian firearms owners as “crooks”.
I have been for over 30 years. I'm fully aware of all those details.
