The United States upended a major international treaty negotiation, telling foreign delegates at the final session today that they needed more time to consider the pact. Some diplomats said that Washington is seeking another six months, pushing off any decision on the politically sensitive treaty until after the U.S. election. Russia, Indonesia, and India also asked for more time.

Indonesia’s the real surprise there. Russia has a thriving arms export industry, the Indians are trying to get one going, so those are understandable.

Obama will sign it after the election. It is only putting off now so that it can get reelected.

Good news but they only delayed it until Fter the election. Whether Obama wins or loses he will likely sign it at that time.

Seems to me that there are a number of other BIG-TIME countries with reservations here...so why pick on the US...unless there’s another agenda involved.

A defeated President and a lame duck Senate will have more flexibility. I don’t know what the enforcement section reads like, but the Global Agreement on Trade and Tariffs works like this: Bush put a tax on imported steel to buy votes from Pennsylvania. The treaty allowed us to be taken to a foreign court where we lost the case. The judgment allowed foreign governments to “legally” impose tariffs on our trade goods. The VERY savvy foreigners targeted industries in individual counties that Bush had to have. The attack was sophisticated and effective. Bush, very embarrassingly, I think, rescinded the steel tariff. (I wasn’t in favor of the steel tariff because, although it saved 5,000 steel jobs, it lost an estimated 30,000 other jobs due to the increased price of steel.)

Now, if we get taken to “World Court” and lose the case; say because gun shops in Texas, say, are shown to be selling guns that are finding their way to Mexico (what are the odds?) then, perhaps, individual companies in unrelated industries could, potentially, face the same tariff treatment that Wisconsin cheese suddenly faced. The US economy would be devastated.

Yup, agree. If that treaty is signed and anyone tries to enforce it here, we’ll have proof of our need for (and use of) the 2nd Amendment.

CW-II will be here in full force.

The US needs to get out of the UN. It has become a threat to our liberty.

My thoughts are what UN nation will Obama have come in with troops? Remember in Black Hawk Down the Pakistanis were the major UN forces in Somalia. Would it not be convenient for Obama to have Paki forces on our soil. They would have no qualms about taking down American citizens. IMHO

.
Hell, the US is the ONLY country on the agenda.

The Swiss probably have as many guns per citizen as the US have (and many are fully automatic) and I want to see the UN try to take the guns away from the Yemenis.

Sheesh people, wake up.

It has always been my opinion that lame duck Presidents and legislators should be prohibited from writing or signing anything.

There is NOT ONE congresscritter or US politician with the b*lls to even publicly suggest it.

The MSM will be on him/her like flies on crap.

Hell, once the Pakis get here, they will shed their uniforms and disappear inside the general population.

You think they want to go back to Pocky-shtan?

Or is that 3,000,000? I'm always misplacing zeros...

Best the 500 or so called “Representatives/Leaders” in Washington never forget, thanks to the foresight of our forefathers who wrote the second Amendment, well over 100 Million citizens have guns in this land of the free and home of the brave.

Message received.

Guess they are worried about the election but it wouldn’t have mattered anyway.

Never, ever gonna pass the Senate.

So after studying polls and focus group results, Obama’s handlers concluded that he had less to lose by screwing his base than by firing up his opposition. The Senate is unlikely to ratify this treaty. Perhaps Senate Democrats have “advised” the WH to defer this so that they can avoid embarassing their own President (or having him force them into electoral suicide).

Americans need to remain vigilant, but Obama’s show of weakness is heartening.
