Protest targets WA Chick-Fil-A truck in gay marriage row

WASHINGTON — Protesters targeted a Chick-fil-A food truck in Washington on Thursday after the fast-food chain's president came out candidly against same-sex marriage.

"Ho-ho, hey-hey, Chick-fil-A is anti-gay," chanted a young crowd of around 20 demonstrators, with no apparent impact on the steady flow of patrons picking up chicken sandwiches and nuggets under the hot midday sun.

Mainly present in the southern United States, but expanding into other parts of the country, Chick-fil-A is as famous for its Christian values -- it never opens on Sundays -- as it is for its menu.

But company president Dan Cathy angered gay rights groups and their allies when he criticized marriage equality, saying last week that Americans are "inviting God's judgment" by accepting the idea that two people of the same sex can wed.

Elected officials in Boston and Chicago have gone so far as to tell Chick-fil-A to stay out of their towns, while the Jim Henson Company said it would no longer supply its popular puppet toys to the family-owned chain.

Dan Rafter of the Human Rights Campaign, which organized the Washington protest, told AFP that Chick-fil-A has a "long history" of funding groups that oppose greater rights for gays and lesbians.

These radicals need to be fought politically. The owner of chick fil A merely mentioned his religious beliefs and his personal support of traditional marriage. I say if you no longer are safe to say that in America, then MY human rights are being violated and I demand it be stopped.

Agreed. I had a dream one time where I was standing next to President Reagan giving a speech in support of Mitt Romney. I asked him after he was done, "how to you deal with liberals when you just can't debate them." He patted me on the back and told me, "you just have to tell them, 'oh just shut up!'"

The Libertarian method works well within a “live and let live” context, but when people demand special rights within the purview of governmental protections it becomes a whole different battle as you note.

NOTE: The title should read “DC” and not “WA” - this truck was in downtown Washington, DC.

That's true because they have crossed the line into violating the rights of others as well as getting close to advocating very violent means to do so, thus becoming bullies.

They are the very incarnation of intolerance.

“I think the protesters are winning, I went to a chik-fil-a this morning and they had closed up shop, presumably due to all the protests...”

Heh, heh!

Tomorrow through Wednesday is going to be really busy at Chick-fil-A. When you visit, take pictures.

I have actually started collecting pictures of these things when I see them. Living in Massachusetts, I see plenty of real-life ones, but it is dangerous to snap pictures while driving...:)

I want to see them with their signs and an ever increasing circular shadow around them...with them at the center!

I like the figurative imagery!

The left has a childish interpretation of “tolerance”. Tolerance = you do things my way. To work in any situation or relationship, tolerance must be a two way street. Islam, Marxism and progressive social structure all allow no opposition or questioning.

Right, their goal really is not tolerance, but to silence and shame all dissenting opinions and world-views.

"My boyfriend used to like your waffle fries."

He still does -- he's just afraid that if he owns up to it you'll have a hissy fit and hit him over the head with your fabulous sequined purse, dahling.

Do they take requests for golden oldie chants? Maybe they could resurrect, “Ho, Ho, Ho Chi Minn, the NLF is gonna win.”

LOL, that is why liberalism is so disturbing to me.

They can easily exercise “doublethink” without even a pang of cognitive dissonance.

Liberalism, consistency is not thy name.

As in this quote from a June 2012 article:

. . . [ The] radical, organized, homosexual rights movement has turned the tables on upholders of traditional moral standards.

It is now the people attempting to oppose the gay agenda, who may incur obloquy, possibly even having to pay penalties.

For example, consider that for years the ROTC was banned from many college campuses because gays were not allowed to serve openly in the U.S. military. The Southern Poverty Law Center, a civil rights organization, recently stigmatized, as “anti-gay hate groups,” a number of perfectly responsible and respected organizations, such as the Family Research Council. The present writer personally knows of a case where McDonald’s fired a teen-aged employee for expressing his opinion to a fellow worker that a same-sex union does not constitute a marriage.

Again, Apple, the computer giant, similarly and summarily, penalized thousands of signatories of the ecumenical group, Manhattan Declaration, for affirming, among other things, that marriage was properly the union of a man and a woman—just as every dictionary published up until a couple of years ago necessarily defined marriage in exactly the same way.”
