Mayor Bloomberg pushing NYC hospitals to hide baby formula so more new moms will breast-feed

The nanny state is going after moms.

Mayor Bloomberg is pushing hospitals to hide their baby formula behind locked doors so more new mothers will breast-feed.

Starting Sept. 3, the city will keep tabs on the number of bottles that participating hospitals stock and use — the most restrictive pro-breast-milk program in the nation.

Under the city Health Department’s voluntary Latch On NYC initiative, 27 of the city’s 40 hospitals have also agreed to give up swag bags sporting formula-company logos, toss out formula-branded tchotchkes like lanyards and mugs, and document a medical reason for every bottle that a newborn receives.

While breast-feeding activists applaud the move, bottle-feeding moms are bristling at the latest lactation lecture.

Well, that should make for another generation of healthy crack laced, smack flavored milk, and a host of other nasties passed on to those suckling babes from the warmth of their mother’s breast.

If it's a choice mom's need to make, then the government's own hospitals shouldn't be trying to influence them to use formula or giving them formula manufacturer-branded freebies.

I disagree with Bloomberg most of the time, but he's right to disassociate the state with formula corporations.

The ideal situation would be for the city not to own any hospitals, but if they are going to own them, they shouldn't be pushing formula.

The standard casing of street sign lettering was not his decision and was something the city fought. It was mandated by the federal government.

“Breast milk is fine. But so is formula.”

If anything I think formula is less risky, as it isn’t dependent on the diet of the mother (and Americans aren’t known for healthy diets); all of mine used formula, and they’re fine.

“It should be evident by now that Obama is just a meat puppet and doesn’t control anything.”

Yeah, the teleprompter gave that away pretty early...

If Bloomberg were a woman who actually has the potential to give birth, he'd know that a woman doesn't decide whether to breastfeed after giving birth and that decision certainly isn't made because she saw a can of Isomil in the hospital.

This moron needs a Nancy Pelosi type mental health evaluation and needs to be removed from office.

But he’ll only allow the babies to breast feed if the mother is an A Cup or B Cup. Women with larger breasts will be banned from the hospital.

Imagine, if NYC gets another Democrat mayor, this person might actually be less nannified than Bloomy.

I think this would be a wonderful time and place for a Big Gulp Of Freedom Tea Party to appear. No more bans on baby formula. Big Gulps, Double Gulps, Triple Gulps... all copacetic with a full quota of sugar. Salt shakers and trans fats once more available in eateries. Foie gras once more being served to whoever can afford it. Any place that wants to boast a private policy which was in line with the old city regulations can do so, but nobody would be required by law to do it. Ah, that Big Gulp of Tea.
