Book bombshell: Obama canceled Bin Laden ‘kill’ raid three times at Jarrett’s urging
The Daily Caller ^ | July 29,2012 | David Martosko

Posted on 07/30/2012 7:56:16 AM PDT by Hojczyk

At the urging of Valerie Jarrett, President Barack Obama canceled the operation to kill Osama bin Laden on three separate occasions before finally approving the May 2, 2011 Navy SEAL mission, according to an explosive new book scheduled for release August 21. The Daily Caller has seen a portion of the chapter in which the stunning revelation appears.

In ”Leading From Behind: The Reluctant President and the Advisors Who Decide for Him,“ Richard Miniter writes that Obama canceled the “kill” mission in January 2011, again in February, and a third time in March. Obama’s close adviser Valerie Jarrett persuaded him to hold off each time, according to the book.

Miniter, a two-time New York Times best-selling author, cites an unnamed source with Joint Special Operations Command who had direct knowledge of the operation and its planning.

Obama administration officials also said after the raid that the president had delayed giving the order to kill the arch-terrorist the day before the operation was carried out, in what turned out to be his fourth moment of indecision. At the time, the White House blamed the delay on unfavorable weather conditions near bin Laden’s compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan.

But when Miniter obtained that day’s weather reports from the U.S. Air Force Combat Meteorological Center, he said, they showed ideal conditions for the SEALs to carry out their orders.

“President Obama’s greatest success was actually his greatest failure,” Miniter told The Daily Caller Friday. ”Leading From Behind,“ he said, traces the arc of six key Obama administration decisions, and shows how the president made them — and, often, failed to make them.

I believe “ulsterman” had a description of these episodes? And was panned for his lack of credibilty

The version I remember was that the raid only eventually went forward because “they” (Defense? CIA?) found a way to get obama’s words to constitute prior “approval” - then blocked Jarett (and thus obama himself) from knowing about until it was actually launched

Thus obama’s being pulled off a golf course in his golf clothes to watch from a side seat in the WH Situation Room

sorry, but “unnamed sources” can stick it. Not saying it isn’t true, but you’re going to have to do better than that to convince people.

There was a big discussion of this here at FR a while back. I think the gist of it was that the pentagon worked around Jarrett, got tacit approval from Obama, and then quietly put things in motion so by the time Obama knew (note how he was yanked off the golf course at the last minute) it was too late for President Jarrett to interfere.

In enterprise of martial kind,
When there was any fighting,
He led his regiment from behind,
He found it less exciting.
But, when away his regiment ran
his place was at the fore-—OH!
That celebrated, underrated, well-connected warrior
The Duke of Plaza Toro!

All you have to see is the picture of Obama in the “war room”....With that “what the hell is happening” look and you know he made NO decisons whatsoever.

I read on this site (and others) that in the face of Obama’s continued dithering, Leon Penetta gave the final “go-ahead” to kill Bin-Ladin...and of course, Obama sucked up the credit after the op was a success. No surprise there.

Obama is a brave brave man for sending in that SEAL team to kill bin laden. A massively gutsy call from not only the nations first black President, but the nations best black President. The raw courage emanating from the man is palatable. He’ll be an icon of the black community for generations to come.

It’s hard to make a case for a man who has so few positive items on his resume, especially when the positives were involuntary.

Ulsterman's WH Insider related a behind the scenes account of the bin Laden raid that jives with this. He said that Jarret made the important decisions in the WH.

This is not a new revelation. I am trying to find the an article I recall reading on this subject. Apparently, Panetta and Clinton were behind this raid. Obama again delayed the raid due to weather. Panetta maneuvered Obama to give a standing order to raid when the weather was good.

The raid was on Sunday, Obama was pulled off the golf course. In the War Room Pic, he is NOT at the Table. Clinton, Gates and even Biden have a table spot.

We’re thinking that it is not really malware. Rather someone reporting it as malware to scare visitors away.

I’ll check into Ghostery though.

I heard that, too. It was practically a Panetta/Hillary coup that Obama and Jarrett were surprised by. I also read on FR that Obama had a statement drafted to blame the military in case of the operation’s failure.

Obama is taking credit for the kill, but I believe if the facts are known, the Navy figured a way to go behind Jarrett’s back and get the job done.
