Students Across U.S. Demand Removal of Chick-fil-A From Campus

Students from seven schools across the country have launched petitions on Change.org demanding removal of Chick-fil-A franchises over the company’s anti-gay stance.

From Change.org:

WASHINGTON, DC – Students from seven schools across the country have launched petitions on Change.org in the past 48 hours demanding the removal or prevention of Chick-fil-A franchises on their campuses following this week’s media blitz over the fast food chain’s public stance against same-sex marriage.

The petitions target officials at the University of Illinois, University of Kansas, Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, Ball State University, College of Charleston, Wichita State University, and Minnesota State University.

“In the last several days, the president of Chick-fil-A, Dan Cathy, reaffirmed the company's anti-gay marriage stance and their allocation of funds to support organizations countering the marriage equality movement,” wrote James Castle, a recent graduate of KU, in his petition on Change.org. “Because Chick-fil-A's stance on gay rights could create a hostile environment for queer youth and allies, having a Chick-fil-A on campus deeply conflicts with The University of Kansas Mission on Values and the Chancellor's and Provost's personal commitments to diversity at KU.”

Last week, a media firestorm erupted when it was revealed that Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy told a radio interviewer that “as it relates to society in general, I think we are inviting God's judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at Him and say, 'We know better than You as to what constitutes a marriage’... I pray God's mercy on our generation that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude to think that we would have the audacity to try to redefine what marriage is all about."

Chick-fil-A’s charitable arm, The WinShape Foundation, has long been a supporter of organizations that aim to ban same-sex marriage. Through WinShape and direct charitable donations, Chick-fil-A is reported to have given more than $2 million to anti-gay groups.

The student-led movement to block Chick-fil-A from college campuses began last fall when students at 11 schools launched petitions on Change.org after a similar round of media coverage. One such student at Northeastern University started a Change.org petition that, after gaining just over 600 signatures, helped in stopping Chick-fil-A from opening a restaurant on its campus. Another student at New York University launched a petition on Change.org that attracted nearly 15,000 signatures, sparking protests against Chick-fil-A’s presence that continue to roil the campus.

You nailed it. If you’re on the “correct” side of the queer agenda, numbers don’t matter, ya see. If it was ten in ten different universities, the lame-ass media would report this as a “tidal wave of dissent”, donchaknow.

“Let’s see if the hypocritical little twerps follow up with this one.

Mohammed taught that homosexuals should be executed.

Do you really want to fund this agenda?

If not, help us kick the Mosques and Moslem groups off campus.

My guess is, “That’ll be the day.””

I hear you - just try and make up posters like that and hang them in college campuses and you will be arrested as a hateful, dangerous bigot. Funny, ain’t it.

I predict that the only thing that could happen at the government schools (public universities) is that the administration will not renew their contract whenever it comes up for renewal. Otherwise it would be a case of religious discrimination at the very least and for a government school that is a severe no-no.

Private universities may find it easier but it would still be difficult. If students want to boycott that is everybody’s right (except for Obamacare). Still unless you can show a pattern of discrimination in hiring or customer treatment or a failure to keep to contractual obligations or health and safety codes, this is going to be a school administration nightmare for even the most liberal institution.

If a non BLT-G organization created a list of those companies which favor homo “marriage,” and began advocating the cessation of all commerce with one business at a time, how would those protesters (and government reps) react?

...and they are FAR outnumbered by the students who would be furious if their campus Chick Fil As were closed.

But let’s not let the facts get in the way of a good narrative....

It’s OK now to use religion when deciding what business to give a permit to. It has not been ok since 1945, but we are progressives and we are progressing.

But it’s for gay rights, so this sort of discrimination is OK.

If they drive the CFA off campus, will the other on-campus businesses hire the CFA students and make up the lost rent to the school?

If a Chic-fil-a were to be firebombed, it’s for gay rights.

"Occupy Chick-fil-A!!!" --- - ha, I was thinking the same thing. Just waiting for them to turn it into another Occupy movement. But then, they already have their "OCCUPY HOMOPHOBIA":

They could simply move their store off campus. Well, not simply. Students who don’t give a cluck about the activist’s cause and love Chik-Fil-A might see their comrades in a whole new light.

I think they should replace those locations with muslim owned food venues. They should hold Eid celebrations outside so all the students can see and enjoy. Remember kids, it's all about diversity.

Someone needs to place a poster right next to each of these posters saying:

"The Islamic leaders of the OPEC that provides most of the world's oil and fuel, fund a religion and other radical organizations that claim that homosexuals should be put to death.

Do you really want to support such an agenda?

Think before you get in your car to drive, or flip the switch to use electricity, or fly in an airplane on vacation, or eat food that's been transported by diesel trucks."

I am having a hard time understanding why anyone would want to open a store in such a limited market. Or what a christian company would want to open a store in the belly of the beast.

In Minnesota they have 3 stores. Two on campus and one behind the TSA wall of insecurity at the airport.
