Tea party retools as network of field operatives, keeps pushing GOP rightward
The Washington Post ^ | 7/30/12 | Douglas A. Blackmon

FORT WORTH — For much of the past year, things looked bad for the tea party. Polls showed little new interest from voters, and its favorite presidential contenders flopped in the face of Mitt Romney, who was denounced within the movement. But the final days of the Republican Senate runoff in Texas suggest that the tea party may be reshaping itself into a political operation with long-term viability.

On Tuesday, GOP voters will choose between former state solicitor general Ted Cruz, who has benefited from intense tea party support, and Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, an establishment Republican and protege of Gov. Rick Perry. Dewhurst finished first in the primary in May but did not win a majority, forcing the runoff. According to recent polling, Cruz may be in the lead.

Yep, they are going to have a tough time grappling with the fact that we learn much quicker than they (the left) ever could.

The Pansies at the Washington COM-Post have their panties all tied up in knots.

No, the Hobbits have not gone away. Yes, we are going to take a toll in November. No, we don't believe a thing we get from the MSM. Total lies 24/7.

Dewhurst did this to himself.

BUT there are more in the sights for removal.

Isn't this a natural progression? I've always thought of the tea party as the same folks that have been saying "throw the bums out" for my entire life.

They're just getting pragmatic.

Finally, some good news. I just wished it could become so “viable” as to push Romney off the ballot!

“And replace Romney with who?” A real conservative and Republican.

Romney should NOT be the nominee for the GOP.

In a more sensible era people who believed in law, order, the Constitution, honor and ethics weren't called names and ridiculed - they were just average people and were the overwhelming majority.

The average American from the 1940's, 50's, 60's would be called a far right ultra-conservative today.

John F. Kennedy remains one of the democrats' patron saints but only because they can use his death to push their agenda. The reality is most modern democrats probably don't have any idea about his political views and would be shocked if they did. His political views were closer to Sarah Palin than to any major democrat politician of today. In the current political climate JFK wouldn't be able to win a democrat primary in his own home state.

“We shall see.”

I know this (Romney pushed off) isn’t going to happen, but I cannot help but desire it. The thought of Romney being shown the door by “real conservatives” is a delicious thing.

Right,

The average American from the 1940's, 50's, 60's would be called a far right ultra-conservative today. John F. Kennedy remains one of the democrats' patron saints but only because they can use his death to push their agenda. The reality is most modern democrats probably don't have any idea about his political views and would be shocked if they did. His political views were closer to Sarah Palin than to any major democrat politician of today.

The same applies to Franklin Roosevelt. I campaigned for Landon / Knox against FDR. I remember. FDR was opposed to unions for government workers and thought weak banks should be allowed to fail

“And replace Romney with who?” A real conservative and Republican.

How about a specific, named individual who you think would win? All this "I don't like Romney" accomplishes nothing if you can't specify a replacement who would do better.

Too true. Talking to liberals today, they loved him because he WAS a 'liberal'. Having lived during that time, I have the pleasure of informing them that comparatively, he wasn't.

Then I get to sit back and watch their heads explode.

LOL!

“But the final days of the Republican Senate runoff in Texas suggest that the tea party may be reshaping itself into a political operation with long-term viability.”

That would be nice if true. Maybe they can organize themselves long enough to attend a town council meeting to balance out the left wing freaks who always show up. It would also be good if they informed themselves with the knowledge to vote out eco-nazis who have infiltrated the county board. That’s probably a bridge too far.
