Seeing as how President Obamas economic strategies have most definitely not worked, the Democrats are bringing out former President Bill Clinton for a prime-time speaking slot at their national convention presumably so he can tout his Hey, Im a Democrat and we had balanced budgets and a robust economy during my tenure, ergo I have authority on the economy issue and Im for Obama! credentials.
Sources tell the Associated Press that Obama personally asked Clinton to speak at the convention and to place Obamas name in nomination, an offer the former president enthusiastically accepted. Clintons expected to take center stage in Charlotte, N.C., on Sept. 5, the third day of the four-day convention.
Hume
The convention role being given Bill Clinton is proof that President Obama is in deep trouble and he and his political handlers know it .
Add to that the Rasmussen survey in which voters by 62 percent to 30 said economic growth was more important to them than economic fairness. Fairness, of course, is a major theme of Mr. Obama and his party. With his attacks on Mitt Romneys business record and his repeated and unsubtle appeals to elements of his partys base, Mr. Obama is clearly shooting for a big Democratic turnout in November.
But Gallup reports that the number of Democrats who say they are more enthusiastic about voting this year is at 39 percent, down from 61 percent four years ago. 51 percent of Republicans, meanwhile, said they are more enthusiastic this year, that is up from 35 per cent in 2008.When you put all this together with the continuing bad news on the economy, you know why Mr. Obama is suddenly reaching out to Bill Clinton.
This is a distress call.

I think even the independents know the following equation by now:
Obama = FAIL
This is more significant with the free pass he gets on foreign policy scrutiny.
In November I may regret writing this...but it looks like a Romney landslide is on the horizon. Romney was not my choice for the GOP nomination...but it starting to look as though anybody will beat this fake in the White House.
I am old enough to remember 1980. Polls, some like now over-polling Democrats had the race too close to call three days out from the election. It was a Reagan landslide.
The difference being that then...the media was a bit fairer in its treatment of Republicans...not much, but some...today the MSM has stripped away all pretense of objectivity.
I’m thinking Romney, if he does a reasonable job in the debates should sweep the battleground states.
Especially in the upper midwest...the economy is terrible...hard to see who will vote for four more years of this.
Bet Hillary is fuming.
I think Hume is right about this, there’s no love lost between those two. But I think he and O’Reilly are on the crack pipe with their speculation that Clinton may “go rogue”. He ain’t going off the reservation, but he may round up all the indians and bring them back over to the Clinton Ranch...
Bill Clinton the attention whore would eat sh—dirt to be the center of attention.
I bet he is getting off on Obama begging him to save his azz.
Bill Clinton did well getting himself elected, but he has no coattails. The entire Democratic party got wiped out during his years, despite his campaigning. Gore lost, Hillary lost the nomination, and as previously mentioned Walker won, and he had no impact on 2010. Clinton is great for Clinton, but that’s about it.
Plus, it gives Romney a chance to contrast Clinton’s record with Obama’s in terms of reforms, compromise, etc.
Wives who are 'hell on wheels'
Both seem to enjoy oral sex, although one prefers it from guys
Both seem to like cocaine
Both presided over a tidal change in the House bringing a majority from the opposing party.
One was impeached in his second term, the other probably will be impeached if he has a second term.
One was declared the first black president, the other was declared the first black president.
Yup. A lot in common.
So the man that lost Gore the election is going to save Obama?
Also folks tend to forget that ole BJ won both times with pluralities, although he did come close in 96 with 49%.
A definite desperation move.
Just look at Bill and Hil’s success promoting candidates since his leaving office. What is it now? Something like 29 losers vs. 2 winners!
I see a repeat of his 88(???) convention speech when the old windbag was given a standing O when he said “and finally.”
They’re going to need a hook and a team of wrestlers to drag him away from this podium... :)
Slick will intentionally not be much help to nobama. We know we can count on Slick doing HOURS of talking about himself. One thing that always stuck out, in addition to WJC’s slickness, is his vindictiveness. Payback’s a cold hard MF’r.
I think it’s a mistake. Dems love Clinton, and looking at him will remind them of the mistake they made in 2008.
Obama is a narcissist, whenever he sees Clinton in public he manhandles him and tries to look more powerful. It will just remind Dems that Obama is the lesser man.
Few remember that during Bill’s two terms, more elected Dem candidates switched party affiliation that under any other president!
The Clintons are setting himthemselvesself up to be the chief power brokers when all that’s left of Obama’s Democrat party is a heap of ashes,
You’ve got it, randita. Dislike the Clintons, but they are masters at power manipulation.
Like a player at the stock market, someone elses loss is their gain, and they know how to play it. After the 2008 election, my guess is the Clintons will be the most powerful Dems, not Obama.
O must be truly desperate to call them in.
"Ladies, Gentleman, butt grabbers and etc; I come before you not behind you to nominate the next President of the United States. Hillary Rodham Clinton." Then to just sit there and watch Barack Hussein Obama turn white.
America hates Bill Clinton.
Romney should have George W. Bush make a Primetime speech of the GOP Convention.
The economy was healthy during the time that Bill Clinton was in office but he was just a bystander. It was, of course, Newt Gingrich and the Conservatives sweep to power that led to low unemployment, tax rollbacks and a a renewal of free enterprise. I well remember that gas was down to 78 cents a gallon after the Gingrich Revolution has effectively neutralized Clinton and the left.
The gas prices were among the many reasons why I so strongly favored Speaker Gingrich during the primaries. I'm still sure that he would have be the strongest candidate and I believe his "Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less" was more than a slogan. Gingrich proved to be a man of substance in the 1990's and the results were tangible.
Reagan spoke at the 92 convention.
Didn’t do squat for Bush.
Like what the hell is the guy people remember for getting a cheap bj going to do for Obama?
Bringing B. Clinton on the scene will be a kiss of death for Obama. Does anyone recall the presser where Clinton flat out took over and Obama literally left the room looking very small after that? The same in spades will happen again, Clinton will hog the limelight (and admittedly, the guy is good at it and handling the quisling press) and the stark difference between the two “democrats” will be shown (with Obama looking like the complete inferior) and more “middle of the road” democrats who don’t normally pay attention to politics will be pushed to Romney. Just my $0.02 of course.
So Obama is basically hoping some nastalgia out of the convention will carry him to victory... This will probably give him a little bounce, but it won’t last or do much else.
After all, “someone else made that happen” won’t get you to the White House.
How about all of the Bush family go away and never be heard from again?
Hume’s analysis is fine, but I suspect that (beyond needing a gimmick to justify media attention for a purposeless convention):
1) Obama retains some fear of a convention rebellion in favor of Hillary.
2) Wishful thinking by many Democrats that Obama might be dumped for Hillary! is hurting campaign donations and Obama’s poll numbers. (At least Obama’s handlers hope so).
Lining up Bill to place Obama’s name in nomination, and announcing this publicly, pretty much kills the draft Hillary notion.
Unfortunately for Obama, Bill is always about Bill. Reminding the electorate that he, for all his faults, was a skillful politician, enormously more engaged and effective as President than Obama, who actually did bipartisan business by co-opting the Republican agenda, tamed the deficit, etc., makes Obama look mighty shabby. Obama does not measure up to Bill’s standards, even for honesty.
If there is anyone in the entire world with a bigger ego than Obama, it’s Clinton. The problem for Obama is that with Clinton it is always all about him personally. So Clinton is likely to overplay it and “tell” America to vote for Obama. And America is likely to say: “Who the F are you? Oh, yeah, you’re the guy who got the blow jobs...well, we’re broke now and a blow job won’t help so go to Hell.”
What helped the Toon was the dot com bubble, his 24x7 spin meisters, and the Republican Congress saved him because they thought it was too extreme to kick Hill and Billy out on their Arkansas @$$e$ after he was impeached!
Note I left Wisconsin out of the mix, they at least had the good sense to retain Scott Walker and give him an even BIGGER win during the recall election, than he had in 2010.
Bill Clinton is the luckiest guy in the world, but he’s a jinx to everybody around him. He gets the credit for everybody else’s work, and the people around him get hosed. Great idea, Obama. Give Bill the chance to grab the spotlight and you’ll never get it back. This should be fun to watch.
It’s got to stick in the craw of the Chicago Gang that they must rely on ‘rock stars’ (puke) in the form of a dirty old man and Hillary (XY/XX chromosome combination unknown).
Obama is ego first, last and always so having to rely on others as a draw is delicious irony.
Hey man, that would be the maximum Hoot!
What the hell could nobama do? Maybe moochelle would attack Slick on stage or smack hitlery upside her heyet! CDs of the dem convention would be priceless.
It might be worthwhile to watch the convention....... naw.
Rush was just talking about how and what the liberals will be blaming nobama going down in flames on. Maybe that’s their goal of getting Slick to do. They gotta blame it on something.
Barack Obama, desperately searching for a record he can run on, begs Bill Clinton to come to Charlotte and save his bacon. Priceless!
Now -- thank goodness -- there are alternative media that didn't exist back then.
I don’t care if you’re a Republican, Democrat, Independent, Libertarian, Vegetarian, THAT is funny!
I don’t care if you’re a Republican, Democrat, Independent, Libertarian, Vegetarian, THAT is funny!
I was told by the Messiah that he would put the accomplishments of his administration in his first 2 years right up there with FDR, Lincoln and LBJ...
Instead the affirmative action hero needs a lifeline from Slick Willie...
Man, that is soooo cruel. True and funny as hell, but still cruel.
In order for old BJ Bill to provide any help to Bammy he would have to bring back all the Republicans who brought the economy back on track and gave BJ Bill a second term.
Bill wasn’t responsible for the economy during his presidency, it was the Republicans who did that. Bill just took credit.
Obama is like the titanic, he’s hit the iceberg and is sinking. Come November I hope he goes down with a blubbering sound. And takes all the liberals who are passengers on this cruse along with him.
My wife just pointed out that the whole Bill/nominating speech thing suggests that they have cut the deal to replace Biden with Hillary for VP. I have always doubted that Obama had a death-wish, but it makes sense — Obama realizes he is on track to lose, and is likely to try a desperation move.
Bill will spend 4 hours talking about himself.
We shall see. I’ve always contended that Biden’s key role on the ticket was to make ObaMao look smart. BO won’t get that with Hillary.
