Too chicken to let people choose for themselves (Mumbles Menino vs Chik Fil A)

The first thing you do when you're trying to get out of a hole is stop digging.

Boston Mayor Tom Menino realized that when he came to his senses and backed off his bullying threat -- without a legal leg to stand on -- to ban establishment of a Chick-fil-A restaurant in Boston because he disagreed with the owners' religious views on traditional marriage.

This would be Dan Cathy, the owner of the Atlanta-based national fast-food chicken-serving chain, who in an interview to a religious publication set off a firestorm in the gay community by stressing his support for the biblical interpretation of traditional marriage which, by implication, made him a critic of same-sex marriage, which is legal in Massachusetts and elsewhere.

This led the mayor, a longtime advocate of gay marriage and gay rights, to send off a thuggish, highly self-righteous letter to Cathy, accusing Cathy of discrimination and warning him to "back off" his plans to open a Boston franchise

So liberals and gay-rights activists launched a campaign to persuade the Legislature to deny the right of Massachusetts citizens to vote on the matter. And when Republican Gov. Mitt Romney, an opponent of gay marriage, left office and was succeeded by Democrat Deval Patrick in 2008, the gay community had a new champion.

Interesting. The Posse Spammers have been claiming it was Romney who started it in MA. Hmmm. BTTT.
