Boston Mayor Tom Menino realized that when he came to his senses and backed off his bullying threat -- without a legal leg to stand on -- to ban establishment of a Chick-fil-A restaurant in Boston because he disagreed with the owners' religious views on traditional marriage.
This would be Dan Cathy, the owner of the Atlanta-based national fast-food chicken-serving chain, who in an interview to a religious publication set off a firestorm in the gay community by stressing his support for the biblical interpretation of traditional marriage which, by implication, made him a critic of same-sex marriage, which is legal in Massachusetts and elsewhere.
This led the mayor, a longtime advocate of gay marriage and gay rights, to send off a thuggish, highly self-righteous letter to Cathy, accusing Cathy of discrimination and warning him to "back off" his plans to open a Boston franchise
