Psychiatrist Called Threat Team About Aurora Shooting Suspect James Holmes

James Holmes came to the attention of the threat assessment committee at the University of Colorado but no further action was taken because he left the school more than a month before the attack that killed 12 and injured 58, sources told ABC News.

ABC News has learned that Dr. Lynne Fenton, the psychiatrist who was treating Holmes, 24, at the school, was also a key member of the university's threat assessment team. The group of experts were responsible for protecting the school from potentially violent students.

KMGH-TV, ABC News' affiliate in Denver, reported exclusively that, according to sources, by early June, Fenton had informed other members of the team about her concerns regarding Holmes.

But on June 10 -- three days after Holmes bought an assault weapon and added it to his already growing arsenal -- he suddenly told the university that he was dropping out of the neurosciences doctoral program with no explanation.

KMGH-TV reported last week that he'd purchased the weapon hours after failing a key oral exam.

(I love this handout photo of her with big nutty smile. Maybe botox? Smile seems strained.)

"... reported last week that he'd purchased the weapon hours after failing a key oral exam."

Well then, it's obvious, isn't it?

Doctoral degrees will just have to be awarded on an "outcome based" basis. No more tests.

The progressive edjumakaters were right all along.

In other words, “He’s not at the school any more, so it’s not our problem.” Nice.

All this means is that lawyers will feast on university’s budget.

Lawyers, shrinks, prison guards, coroners, lab techs, sheriff's deputies, law clerks... right down to the guys who mow the lawn at the courthouse. Democrats all.

I would love to know what Holmes told the shrink regarding his 'worldview' and political opinions. You can bet the Liberal snooze-media will do their best to bury it if it turns out he was indeed an anti-Capitalist "Occupy" member, and/or a big Obama supporter like Amy Bishop.

"Holmes had been a student at the University of Colorado, but withdrew last month, according to the university. He was getting a PhD in neuroscience. A "James Holmes" is listed as enrolled in a class at the university called "Biological Basis of Psychiatric and Neurological Disorders."

Holmes also received a B.S. in neuroscience from the University of California Riverside in 2010, where he graduated with honors."

This is a University that deals with the brain. If they knew that he was a threat why didn’t they warn the authorities? They should be held responsible for the deaths because they knew.

Is it possible they are covering up because they know that they are the ones who messed him up?

The other day I saw a photo of his car taken from the passenger side. On the front seat there appeared to be a brown rectangle. Could this possible have been the notebook mailed to the U? Someone could have mailed it hoping that it would be opened by the recipient.

Nobody “messed him up”. Serious mental illness has a biological basis and manifests itself at his age range.

Even though identified as a potential threat, there was no way to know when or where or even if he would actually go off.

Do you have a method for discovering and preventing thought-crime?

Couldn't help but notice your post. It's the only other time I've seen anyone else express similar sentiments to my own. An "acceptable" level of crime is indeed good for business. And, you all but said as much but I'll run another one by you: divorce is also good for business. An unintended consequence of the bra burners??? Probably not.

Cadres of Gov’t apparatchiks are salivating at the overtime and millions in salaries paid to deal with this mass murderer in the court and prison system. Not to mention all the lawyers and shrinks who do not get Gov’t paychecks but might as well by the way they are parasitically clamped onto the Judicial systems of which there are countless. State, county, Federale etc etc etc, ad nauseam

My understanding is that his age range is towards the end of the scale.

I say “they messed him up” is if he was over medicated. The brain snapped as a result.

Here’s my reasoning. That university interviews and does a background check etc before they accept a student. Only six students were accepted to that program. He was good enough initially for them to be accepted. Students have a mentor with whom they work closely. Maybe too closely, too controlling. My guess is Fenton was his mentor. She had a habit of dispensing “medication” freely. Stuff happens.

Anyway, it’s too soon to know anything. I’m sure the University will be doing a lot of covering up. They don’t want to lose grants.

The kid was decent looking, obviously bright. What the hell happens to someone to cause them to go off the tracks like this?

Amy Bishop was homely but not frighteningly so..and also very bright. Smart and crazy is a dangerous combination (Hitler, Lenin, Stalin...etc)

Something about Holmes makes me think of Jude Law, it's the eyes I think. He really looks like Law when he played "Gigolo Joe" in the film "A.I"

It probably didn't help his condition to have a psychiatrist who sure looks alot like Squeaky Fromme.

Drugs, prescription or illegal can be a precipitator, but I think he was showing the earliest symptoms during his internship at the Salk Institute based on the news reports.

My point of view is that the only type of government that might be able to discover and prevent the occasional seriously mentally ill person with extremely dangerous delusions and obsessions would be so oppressive that it’s not even worth trying.

Fact is, even totalitarian regimes have had mentally ill mass murderers, so this casting around looking for scapegoats and causative agents is misdirected and more dangerous than crazy people.

Political oppression via psychiatry was old hat to Stalin and Mao, let’s not go there ourselves in the name of safety from the mentally ill.

IMHO, you're closer to the most probable cause than most people discussing the issue.

The small group of six students and one professor at the university with whom Holmes was affiliated, are/were working on chemicals to tinker with the brains of people with PTSD, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and their eventual target patients were to be, or already are, combat veterans returning from combat operations.

Reportedly, their project involved injecting rodents' brains with chemicals to alter the behavior of the animals. It is not at all far-fetched to believe that their activities moved on to experimenting with human subjects, with or without official permission, with or without the knowledge or agreement of all the team members.

He left the school? "Oh, then it's not my problem"

Those who prescribe mental pills to make a person "pass" as functional (when they have not regained sanity, only put it under "control") need to be held accountable for their actions more than gun dealers.

If the criminally insane are not going to be held accountable for their actions, then they need to be locked up (institutionalized or kept at home with a legal guardian with them at all times).

Quit restricting the rights of those who have done no wrong and pose no threat to society.
