Regulatory czar leaving White House to return to Harvard Law School
By Justin Sink - 08/03/12 09:26 AM ET
Cass Sunstein, a top adviser to President Obama who functions as a gatekeeper on federal regulations, is leaving the White House to return to Harvard Law School.
Obama heralded Sunstein, administrator of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs, "for his friendship and for his years of exceptional service."
"For the last three and a half years, Cass Sunstein has helped drive a series of historic accomplishments on behalf of the American people," Obama said in a statement. "From putting in place lifesaving protections for Americas families, to eliminating tens of millions of hours of paperwork burdens for our nations citizens and businesses, Cass has shown that it is possible to support economic growth without sacrificing health, safety, and the environment."
Obama and Sunstein originally met at the University of Chicago law school, where they both taught constitutional law. Sunstein moved to Harvard after meeting his future wife Samantha Power, the National Security Councils senior director for Multilateral Affairs and Human Rights, and herself part of Harvard's faculty while campaigning for Obama in Iowa.
A specialist in administrative law and regulatory policy, Sunstein worked as a "regulatory czar" in the White House, looking to streamline government policies.
Sunstein drew a fair amount of controversy from both the left and the right. His departure will bring a sigh of relief to some environmental and public health advocates, who alleged Sunstein was too willing to bend an ear to oil companies and other industries seeking to weaken regulations. And other liberals objected to his libertarian-leaning behavioral economics theories.
But Sunstein also drew fire from some conservatives like Glenn Beck, who, in April of 2010, called the professor "the most dangerous man in America" and seized on comments about gun control he made in his academic writing.
Sunstein has long been rumored as a potential choice of Obama for a Supreme Court vacancy, if one were to open.
Cass just wants to get out in front of the eventual herd.
I bet the answer is sitting in Darrel Issa’s office or at Romney Headquarters....Lol. Or maybe somewhere over at Breitbart.
The fact that we have such a creature as a “regulatory czar” and nobody thinks it’s weird, exemplifies everything that’s wrong in contemporary America.
So, Sunstein's going back to Harvard so he continue to pollute the minds of another generation of Harvard lawyers?
What's so great about that? He should be in jail for what he has done,... or flipping burgers at Burger King and doing a job that does somebody some good and not evil!

To expand the infestation.
Agreed. Sunstein is power crazed, and there’s no way he can get that kind of power at Harvard. So he must know that term two isn’t happening.
Personally, I think the dems are going to kick Barry upstairs.. Maybe UN chief, or at least head of the Ford Foundation. Barry wants to go international.
Exactly! According to the site,’Ulsterman Reports’ new contributor,’Military Insider’, Sunstein is the author of a plan prepared for the Obama White House called,”By any means necessary”. This plan by Sunstein,is said to inlcude a deliberately created mass casualty event,so Obama can suspend elections, declare martial law and thereby retain power,”By any means necessary”.
16,500 BRAND NEW IRS agents hired to enforce Commiecare. Cass must've missed that one. Is he exempt, too?
The kill list?
Hmmmm..not sure I buy the stuff ultersman peddles but it would not surprise me one bit. Did he come out with this before or after Sustein’s sudden departure today?
Interesting article at infowars on coming collapse and martial law. Going on way before Sunstein.
Scurrying back to Harvard????? The commie should be frog-marched to Leavenworth.

In other news Obama announced a national John Dillinger appreciation day in honor of Dillinger’s historic accomplishments on behalf of the banking industry. Next week Bernie Madoff will be honored for his historic accomplishments on behalf of American investors. In a world where Obama gets a Nobel “peace” prize before he even has a chance to do anything worthwhile anyone can be recognized for anything, actual accomplishment is unnecessary.
It was several weeks ago, before Sunstein’s departure. As a matter-of-fact,it was the first contribution from,’Military Insider’.
‘Military Insider’,did not reveal what he saw in detail. So i can’t comment on any,”Kill List”.
What exactly is administrative law? I've only heard it mentioned in the news in recent years.
We need a pic of the Cass Joker standing in the ruins of an American city saying “my work is done now.”
Thanks for the article link.
I giggle — and cringed — reading it.
“What is with the hordes of idiots coming in/out of Harvard?
That place screams failed quasi-intellectual if there ever was one.”
Apparently that school is living on its reputation, not its reality.
There was a discussion on Hacker News (a popular programmers community) linking to an article about the things Harvard students like. The study found that they are attracted to famous people, trendy topics, and having fun while MIT students were preoccupied with computers and the sciences (actually learning stuff). Frisbee, Netflix and wine actually made the Harvard list!
