Skip to comments.Romney on Chick-fil-A: Thatís not something thatís part of my campaign

Via the Examiner, I understand why he punted here. His retort to Reids tax-evasion smear last night was that its an obvious, grotesque attempt to hand the media a new distraction from Obamas record. He just got back from a foreign policy trip/photo op that was also submerged in distractions, most notably his Olympics comments in London and his aides kiss my ass comments to the press in Poland. Hes just begun pushing a more positive message keyed to his biography to convince undecideds that hes up to the job. The last thing he wants right now is another distraction wrapped around his ankles, particularly on a day when the news is about the latest disappointing jobs report.
Given that the Chick-fil-A question here was packaged with another question about Bachmann and the Muslim Brotherhood, he had two dilemmas. One: If he weighs in on either, thats a story and now suddenly hes being asked about gay marriage and Islamism instead of jobs for the middle class. If you want a candidate whos more interested in culture-war issues than economic growth, try Romney 2008. Two: If he weighs in only on Chick-fil-A, the easier of the two topics, then therell be a separate story on why he specifically ducked the question about Bachmann and hell hear it from her supporters and from the media for dodging. He probably figured he was better off playing it safe (as usual) and passing on both. Hey if you wanted a nominee whod inch out on the highwire to answer any question put to him, you should have nominated Newt.
Still, hurts to know that even a tool like Mike Bloomberg is capable of offering a righteous answer on CFA when called on to do so:
Critics trying to shut Chick-fil-A because its CEO opposes gay marriage are undermining the very essence of the Constitution, Mayor Bloomberg declared today in a stirring defense of the embattled fast food chain.
It isnt the right thing to do and it isnt what America stands for, Bloomberg said on his weekly WOR radio show. And those people who dont like (Chick-fil-A) dont understand their rights were protected by people who took a difficult position in the past and stood by it. They stood up so everybody else would be free.
Whats for sure is that government cannot in the United States, in America, under the Constitution, be run where you have a litmus test for the personal views of somebody when they want something in the commercial world.
Barney Frank also managed to say a word against government discrimination towards Chick-fil-A. Ah well. Maybe Mitt will get another question about this tomorrow and say something about free speech even if he ends up avoiding the subject of gay marriage. Speaking of which, enjoy the second clip below. Not sure whats gotten into Stewart lately, but this is a rare week during which most of his big hits have been at the expense of Democrats.
Exit quotation via Mediaite: Pretty sure you cant outlaw a company with perfectly legal business practices because you find their CEOs views repellant. Not sure which amendment covers that, but its probably in the top 1.
Romney on Chick-fil-A: Thats not something thats part of my campaign
So says the father of same sex marriage...
Well, I would advise you NOT to make excuses for Romney
not having an opinion on Gay Marriage.
He seemed to have a “lot” of opinions about Gay Marriage
when he was the Gov.(See Post 21 Excellent Recap).
And as far as those on this site, for whatever reason, cannot
vote for Romney, that is their personal choice, as well.
My advice is to get as many moderates as you can to vote for
Romney. They may be what carries Romney over the finish line. Many conservatives may not vote for Romney because of
their convictions. Just a fact.
You must be a hater, using incontrovertible facts as if they were true. That is not showing party loyalty.
Social issues are not a “distraction.” Look around; our culture is at stake.
One of the most obnoxious (and intellectually dishonest) Mittbot trolls on this site has finally been given the old heave-ho! ;)
Agree. The powder must be kept dry for the big battles ahead.
No one here choose Romney, but somehow, the majority of Republican voters did.
The prime directive now is to remove Obama and his corrupt Communist cabal on November 6th, because that will be the last peaceful opportunity we will have to do so.
An Obama second term is a disaster for America, in ways we cannot dream of. Those that speak of letting it happen because Romney is the GOP candidate know not the severity of what is planned for us by Obama and his handlers.
That’s the name I’m writing in. What a coincidence.
At the GOP-e convention Willard should be Repealed and Replaced....
hes better to stay ON MESSAGE right now.
Oh dont worry
We all got THE MESSAGE
LOUD AND CLEAR...
Willard is pro same sex marriage...
I think he’s doing the right thing. The enemy is doing a good job of destroying themselves:
1) Obama and Biden come out for Gay Marriage
2) Obama’s Minions threaten Chick-Fil-A
3) Dems write Gay Marriage issue into platform
4) Thousands or millions support Chick-Fil-A
The enemy is disintegrating. Step out of the way and let them implode on their own.
I guess the post needed a sarc tag.
Unfortunately, the Obamugabe cabal has hit upon a potentially winning tactic: "The Romney Tax Returns: What Is He Hiding?" It is the left-wing's equivalent of Obama's birth certificate - an open cauldron into which they can pour all their class warfare and outsourcing fantasies, and since Romney has already said there is NO WAY he will release them, there is NOTHING to stop this tactic, all the way to the election.
That is why I think he should have released at least 5 more years when Newt asked for it back in February. It is far too late now, however. So long as this tactic stays alive, it will be used to deflect and distract from Obama's economic incompetence and failure.
Thanks for that, that’s an awesome collection of the REAL WILLARD
Meanwhile, there are people with no sense of history or context who apparently will vote for anybody with an (R) next to their name, be it a cultist bishop or the freaking anti-christ.
>>Crash and burn America.<<
Wow. You and the Islamic terrorists have that in common.
I am ashamed to call you my countryman...that is, if you really are.
BTTT for “it says it all”.
I want a REVOLT at the convention.
Completely irrelevant to this thread, but I did want to thank you publicly for keeping ‘Fahrenheit 451’ in the public view. I never paid much attention to it and your references have put it on my ‘to read’ list.
Everyone saw the people in line on Aug 1. Everyone knows those folks are probably Romney (definitely not 0bama) voters
I dont know who everyone youre hearing from but many of the people in line where I was
SE TN where we voted to pass the Marriage Act into law years ago...
all said they wished that we had a canidate who was against same sex marriage and that they wouldnt be voting for Romney...
They said they couldnmt come there to CFA and then vote for what they were against...
He's either the stupidest candidate who ever lived or he is deliberately trying to lose this election.
If by chance this Bozo actually wins the election are going to cut him some slack when he vetoes the bill to repeal Obamacare because he believes it goes too far?
Are you going to cut him some slack when he forms alliances with Rinos and Democrats to push the socialist agenda he has been pushing since he first went into politics.
I can't stand Romney. If he manages to get elected, he will destroy the GOP. Maybe that will be a good thing. Maybe it's time to bury the elephant.
Thanks for these very telling images. I had no intention of voting for Romney, but they reinforce my thinking on the matter. Given the choices before us, I think the country is basically set to go down the tubes.
Based on #53, I guess so. I did not pick up on it.
It’s the kind of president we already have, and he is most likely to get four more years to work his magic. After that, I’m not sure there will be any more elections.
The woman with more masculine gumption in that one lil ol thumb than Willard has in his whole body...
Ronald Reagan, gee that was easily.
No problem. It has been a long week and these are trying times. Have a good weekend. No sarc intended in this post.
(WAVING MY LIL OL HAND IN THE AIR TO GET ATTENTION)
Me too ???
Im told I “ilk” real good...
Bye Bye Noob.
I guess you can find your "ilk" elsewhere.
Well put. I believe his plans will make everything that we tell ourselves are conspiracy drivel so that we can sleep look like a picnic in the park.
Right now O is going to lose a few ticks on his black vote due to his same sex support. Romney cannot change that number no matter what he does. O got astounding youth vote in 2008, likely not so much this year due the JOBS situation. Most of the hetero support for homo causes comes from young people. Mitt says he supports traditional marriage. Why go further and risk inflaming that youth vote again? Let them sit in their mom's basement eating cheetos and smoking dope. We are at an odd point in history. Flash this and that keep happening and you never know what will spark it. Why risk turning the Aug 1 "CFA support day" that did so much good into something that takes legs in labeling Mitt a "h8ter"? I think he is right to leave that fire alone while the embers are still hot.
Your post is very detailed. I guess his answer was a safe one.
No problem, FRiend.
Your screenname is based on a great Psalm, and one that is so appropriate for this time.
Give me one, just one example of what Mitt Romney has done
to reach out to conservatives during the ENTIRE Primary process and since, besides saying he will repeal Obamacare.
We are all waiting for your example.
In the first half of the 19th century there were two major parties, the Democrats and the Whigs.
The Whig Party eventually drove itself to extinction over social issues (slavery and bigamy). The GOP took it's place and was the dominant party for the rest of the century.
Had the Whigs not collapsed it is very likely that our Republic would have perished.
If the GOP wants to hang itself, I'm willing to give it all the rope it wants.
Romney the gay marriage friendly “republican” is your good buddy.
By voting for him you will be a ALL star American?
They have us by the gonads and its hardly going to be the “America” you “we” want.
As for terrorist..Romney is for gun control, too. Hopefully, if confronted by a terrorist we can still put a bullet in his head.
That is, like I said, we still have guns?
All of it won’t matter because we probably won’t have borders either.
Too bad Mitt doesn’t have the stones to stand up and defend the first amendment, and the rights of ALL Americans therein.
Milk-toast...when you could have had a big boy/girl meal but you took the stuff that doesn't require grownup teeth.
Yes it is, no matter who wins the Presidency in November we are not going to get much improvement in the “courage to stick your neck out” department. They’re both wusses. I think we need a woman President.
We are eating our own and that is never good. Especially with the ramped up graphics and tense language. We need to boot the zero. Politicians like Mitt are like leaves, they go where the wind blows them, once in office Tea Partiers will be controlling the wind.
The first vote I ever cast was for Mr. Reagan.
“That’s not something that’s part of my campaign” doesn’t even come close.
besides saying he will repeal Obamacare.
Willard never said he would “repeal” ObamaCare...
He said he would “repeal and replace”
Thats the litttle catchypoo...
I’ll still vote for the lower offices. Like others I will write in.
Not happy with him avoiding the issue either. Anyone have the picture of Drudge and Romney?
Is that why?
I agree, he is peddling faster than a hamster in heat.
You don’t understand...some freepers think that they have all the right answers just by hanging around for a long time!!!
I’m far from happy that Willard is our guy.
But face it, (A) (B) (O) is the key here.
Some history and historical pictures at the source link of this FR thread.
Amending the Constitution to institute Universal Suffrage is a disaster for America, in ways we cannot dream of.
How you going to fix that?
Hint, it's not fixable, that's why algore won the popular vote, we got two terms of Clinton, and there is currently a muslim communist in the White House.
But never fear, MYTH FLIP SLICK WILLARD ROMNEY, GOD HIMSELF, is going to ride in and save the day.
“But face it, (A) (B) (O) is the key here.”
Another Bend Over.
That is indeed the plan. Hey, sort of on topic too.
I am ashamed to call you my countryman...that is, if you really are.
BTW..hahaha..that was funny...if I “really are”.
Next you will be telling me I am going to hell..hahaha
Go vote for your spineless wonder.
Pretend you are standing up to Obama by voting for a liberal democrat in Republican’s clothing.
Phooey on that!
Spineless Romney can’t even say he supports Free Speech!
Ah hahahaha..can’t vote for a empty suit.
I just went through my pocket Constitution and the 27 amendments, and I couldn't find what you mentioned. (24 maybe?)
Universal manhood suffrage was enacted by Congress in 1826 and signed by John Quincy Adams. It was not a constitutional amendment.
