Michael Tomasky on the (Possible) Coming Obama Landslide
The Daily Beast ^ | Aug 4, 2012 | Michael Tomasky

Liberals don't want to jinx it. It terrifies the right. And the press would prefer a nail-biter. But the fact is that finding Romney's path to victory is getting harder every day.

There's a secret lurking behind everything you're reading about the upcoming election, a secret that all political insiders know—or should—but few are talking about, most likely because it takes the drama out of the whole business. The secret is the electoral college, and the fact is that the more you look at it, the more you come to conclude that Mitt Romney has to draw an inside straight like you've never ever seen in a movie to win this thing. This is especially true now that it seems as if Pennsylvania isn't really up for grabs. Romney's paths to 270 are few.

I’ve been wondering just why Romney was not ahead by at least 10 points by now when you look at the Obama cabinet, the Regulations on industry, the corrupt DOJ, on and on...

Now I am beginning to understand. So many have become so disillusioned with the Republicans (as I have) that his chance of winning is slim. Well, welcome to the real world of Obama second term with no restrictions. You deserve everything that you are going to get!

I want to make it perfectly clear I DO NOT support Romney, I will vote
for him and hold my nose!!! I WILL not take the chance of Obamacare
being forced on us as a country. This BILL IS SOCIALISM!!! Obama
will be able to veto anything coming from senate and congress

This guy is full of CRAP Every Poll. he sights shows Obama BELOW 50% in the polls. Beating Romney isn't good enough for an incumbent. HE has to beet his first term. He must show a reason to be reelected. Obama doesn't have one!

“Several election cycles?”

ARE YOU SERIOUS!?

We have waited decades already. Supporting RINO candidates, as you advocate, preserves the status quo. Personally, I’m ready for change.

In 2016, I will have been waiting for 28 years for precisely this...

"All we can do is vote in a way to mitigate the problems we are facing until we finally get TEA party types in the majority something else better in there.

I don't know how to be more gentle, but you folks are delusional. I'm not saying this to be mean. I like you. What do you want me to do, lie?

Unbelievable.

“Any surprised that DO is also against Romney and pro-Obama?

Only the most dedicated leftists would say that about President Bush.”

Please stop that.

D1 is one of the most patriotic people here.

You might disagree with him, but he’s good people and I have a lot of respect for him.

"Anyone who doesn't see the clear and distinct difference between Obama and Romney is living in an alternate universe. At present, Obama is slowly dismantling our country. If he is reelected, he will have no restraints on what he can and will do. There won't be a Conservative at some future date. What was a great country will be gone, and there will be no way to get it back."

EXACTLY! But some refuse to see the obvious.

I participated. I voted. I donated. I campaigned. Every time we were to choose another GOP candidate, the choices got weaker and worse to a point where I believe it is wrong for me to vote for this one.

We are expected to trust GOP majorities to keep him straight. That has never worked. The GOP opposes the Progressives on the Left, at least in part, but bows before a President of the same party. At least there is a hope that the House and Senate might wake up and oppose the ideas from Obama that they would support from Romney.

You will certainly get that with a second term of Obama, you will see real change in the country. Welcome to the USSA.

“Now, after 28 years, what gives you the idea we haven’t be patient. Please explain that one.”

The TEA Party is just over three years old...just a toddler.

Give it time to grow and mature. It’s happening before your eyes.

And, quit being such a pessimist. Now is a time for optimism, given recent Congressional primaries.

Look, you can take Obama to task for not turning things around, and I’ll join you. I agree with that. But it’s another thing totally, to turn a blind eye to what our own team did.

Bush handed off a national disaster to Obama.

And as much as Bush and his sports fans like to say Congress wouldn’t cooperate on a lending industry fix, he had a Republican House and Senate until 2006.

I don’t give a damn what you say to me, you need to at least be honest with yourself.

Bush WAS responsible for what he handed off.

If Obama had handed off that situation to Bush, are you telling me you would have attacked Bush for it being his fault? There’s no way in hell you would have done that, and you damn well know it.

The problem is that we all will suffer, because some people refuse to face reality and will end up enabling a second Obama term.

As I’ve said on this thread, the TEA Party is new...it’s in it’s early stages.

If you can’t be patient enough to let it mature and grow into a real force, then I have no use for you.

My last comment to you.

I am sure that some here will be very happy if Romney gets defeated....
I won't be happy if Romney gets defeated. However, I won't be happy if Romney wins either.
By his own words he's a moderate and his views are progressive.
Or was he just saying what was politically expedient back then?

You really can't grasp why conservatives are so set against the man, can you?

If all you've got is "vote for him 'cause he's not Obama" then that's not much of a draw.
I'd rather the nation go to the dogs at the hands of a Democrat than at the hands of any Republican, even a moderate, progressive one.

Ahh, so you would rather have our country dismantled by Romney(R) than Obama(D). I get it.
