I think those are valid concerns, and I agree with the Obama Romney consideration. We really do need to get back on track post haste IMO.

When you look at how long it takes to ramp up major programs, it's very critical. Half the years since the last man walked on the moon have probably been wasted due to bureaucrats and Congress and Presidents who can't see the importance of the high ground and getting humans, no make that Americans, out into space.

I can’t believe it...through an incredibly complex set of things that had to go JUST RIGHT, that we could not have direct control over, we’ve landed a freakin’ CAR on the planet Mars! Not only that...it’s a car with a brain and loaded for bear with scientific instruments! And we dropped it to the surface on CABLES, from a hovering platform powered by ROCKETS!

NASA put out the calls for instruments and other gear in 2004, and serious testing was happening by 2008.

The thing that bothers me most is that China has up and decided that space is incredibly important to them, and Obama and Congress seem unfazed by it. When the Chinese start throwing men, money, and machinery at something big, they need to be watched even closer.
