Woman laughs, accidentally swallows knife
Los Angeles Times ^ | August 3, 2012 | Rosie Mestel

"Unexpected Swallowing of a Knife" -- that's a grabbier title than most ones you see in medical journals.

The short item, a clinical image in this week's New England Journal of Medicine, explains that a 30-year-old woman with a history of bulimia had been bragging to friends that she no longer had a gag reflex. She put the knife into her mouth and then laughed -- at which point she swallowed the knife.

Ohayou! Had a heckuva thunderstorm here this morning. It actually managed to knock out the power for almost a full minute, which is a full minute more than my area has lost power since the tsunami last year.

Daytime temps in the mid-90’s and humidity comparable. Joy.

"Nobody in my family has an Obama t-shirt!"

NicknamedSue and I were looking over the book table at the store last night. She pointed out a couple of new books about 0bama, thinking that I might be interested.

"I'm sorry," I said, "but I have a standing rule to not buy any books with his picture on the cover."

Mid-month ping! C’mon, you sluggards! Post something!

A lot of you are aware that last year, I asked for prayers for the great-granddaughter of my life-time friend, BonGon. The little girl, four years old at the time was diagnosed with an extremely aggressive form of brain cancer. She was operated on, had chemo and radiation, and was given a trip to Disneyland by Make-A-Wish.

In the meantime, the therapy worked, and she has been learning to walk and talk again. She has had to go for MRI’s every three months, and once the tumor was gone, the MRI’s showed nothing. Until this last week.

The cancer is back. The little girl is now five years old, but she may not make it to see six. No matter what your religious philosophy is, would y’all please pray for this little girl?

If it be God’s Will, she will be healed. But if not, please pray that her extended family with be given the strength to endure.

Thanks to all of you. FR is made up of all kinds of heroes.

If you would like specifics, please FReepmail me.

Your pathways would be strewn with empty bottles of Guinness from Ireland and wrappers from chocolate truffles from Belgium.

Worse than seeing a beer truck round a corner too fast and lose its load. At least some of it could be salvaged...

Afternoon! It looks like I was so zonked this morning that I forgot the kitteh. Oh, well ... that will give me more choices for tomorrow.

I’ll pray for the little girl again some more. My friend Evelyn has won a trip to Disney World for her family from a local radio station. They have seven children, including two with serious handicaps. The daughter who is Sally’s age is so excited she may have a conniption before October arrives.

I used to watch the original Mickey Mouse Club on TV when everything was B&W. I was a kid when Disneyland was first constructed, and the talent of the people who were on the first MMC was astronomical.

Sadly, I have never been to Disneyland, even though I lived in LA for three years. I think the Rodney King Riots must have had something to do with that.

For children who are handicapped in any way, recently or from birth, Disneyland gives them something else to think about. I’m all for it!

Russ and I used to watch the original Mickey Mouse Club in reruns on some station; this would have been in the mid-1970s. I remember a serial about searching for pirate treasure that went on for so long I don’t think I ever saw the end. I could probably find it on Youtube, if a searched using the theme music!

We went to Disneyland once or twice around ‘73 or ‘74. I think my aunt went with us; she lived in Long Beach at the time, and later moved to Costa Mesa. Sea World was closer, and the San Diego Zoo and the Wild Animal Park. We went to those often, also the San Diego Padres games.

I think Anoreth went to Disneyland with Mom and Aunt Ruth in 1998 - Mom took her to see Aunt Ruth after Elen was born. Elen has been to Disney World in Florida: she was in her Princess Phase when it was her turn for the Big Trip with the grandparents. The other kids have gone to Sea World or Universal Studios or both.

Mom is very cautious about visits with Dad’s condition so unpredictable, but maybe after he moves to the Assisted Living branch, DP or I can take Pat and James for a visit to one of the parks and a setaround with Grandad.

Dear Heavenly Father,

We come humbly before You to ask that You touch BonGon’s great-granddaughter with Your healing hand. Lord, we are Your creations. You know everything about us because You made us in Your image. Only You can make Your precious creations whole and perfect.

You told us that if we believe in Your Son and keep Your commands that we may ask anything according to Your will and know that we will have it. Father, we believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is Your son, that You sent Him to shed His precious blood for our sins, and that He defeated death to rise again. We claim Him as our Lord and Savior and know that we will receive everlasting life through Him.

Father, we ask that You would heal this child. Restore her to perfection as only You can. Grant her caregivers wisdom. Open opportunities that only You can. We ask you these things in the name of Your precious son, our savior Jesus Christ.

Amen.

Howdy.

Though I’m not really happy with this...

A car is a vehicle is transportation..and...

One of my neighbors down the street (not in this complex) has a car that needs some “repairs” but she is willing to sell it to me for $250. She says it needs some engine work and so on, but she will gather all her paperwork, including the title, and I can present it to the church elders and see what can be done.

(I wish my son were here!)

It may be a week or so before she has all the stuff together, but we were able to talk today and get some ideas on the board. She’s from MinneSOOOOta!

As long as a rose doesn’t hit me in the nose, it’s all good! I have an arrangement of some kind of purple flower and white daisies on the mantel right now. I bought them on Friday for Asuncion, whose birthday was last week, but it turned out we didn’t have practice Friday night as planned, and I didn’t want to give her “elderly” flowers today, so I got her a nice scented candle at Target to go with the certificate from “Taqueria La Unica,” which a preponderance of local Mexicans - and us - think has the best Mexican food in the area.

I’ll pray about the car. It is, as I keep telling Bill about the Purple Thing, transportation.

So things are going...as they should...God has His Designs for all of us. I just have to wait and see. Darcy is a gal who cannot lie.

If the Green Thing can get me from here to there, I can live with it1
