OBAMA: ROMNEY WANTS VP PETRAEUS
Tue Aug 07 2012 12:01:02 ET

**Exclusive**

President Obama whispered to a top fundraiser this week that he believes GOP presidential hopeful Mitt Romney wants to name Gen. David Petraeus to the VP slot!

"The president wasn't joking," the insider explains to the DRUDGE REPORT.

A Petraeus drama has been quietly building behind the scenes.

Romney is believed to have secretly met with the four-star general in New Hampshire.

The pick could be a shrewd Romney choice. A cross-party pull. The Obama administration hailed Petraeus as one of history's greatest military strategists. Petraeus was unanimously confirmed as the Director of the CIA by the US Senate 94-0.

But Petraeus has categorically asserted that he has NO political ambitions. And Team Obama stands prepared to tie one of their own to "Bush wars." A Petraeus pick could been seen as simply shuffling the decks of power in DC.

"He's a serious man, for seriously dangerous times," notes a top Republican.

A DRUDGE POLL on Tuesday morning showed readers split on if Romney should give it a go.

And the calendar is running out of days.

Developing...

RE :”Patraeus has a nack for reporting things in a positive way. It might be the only difference between him and McChrystal. Just a few weeks after McChrystal left the theatre everything was looking rosy. The truth is tha that part of the world will be run by Neanderthal druggies long after we leave, which is not soon enough. Every dollar invested globallaly in the war on terror is just more sensless stimulus dollars handed out to an every-man-for-himself drug fest. Our troops are told not to insult the violent druggies they are fighting alongside because then the violent druggies will become more violent and more druggie.

This is a bit off the subject of my comment but my enthusiasm for these endless(until we surrender) costly benefit-less wars have long died out.

This is another thing that scares me about Romney : he seems to be for endless costly deficit funded wars which are just Republican stimulus. Like he learned nothing.

Maybe it’s a trial balloon for Obama to pick him as his own VP.

Petraeus has called himself a ‘Rockefeller Republican’ and recently, not in the 1970s. They are WORSE than Democrats, and his terming himself that now shows a tin ear for politics that would be a huge liability as well.

It is risky because P has no political experience.

That's a sad statement, and true. He hasn't learned to lie, obfuscate and game the system, which makes him a risky pick.

It’s either Obama, Drudge or both throwing out chum to the debating sharks. Meanwhile Obama says Romney thinks Corporations have the same rights as people and women don’t. And Romney says Obama thinks business owners are incompotant and women can be bought with free contraception. When the message should be simply, “stop wasting our time and money!”

I’m in favor of any candidate that will carry Ohio,Florida, or Virginia. That is all that matters when picking VP for ticket.

After serving with Obama—Gen. Petraeus may well have become a Republican. Going with a war hero has always served the Republicans well—think Ike. After the wimp choices I believe he would go over well with the south and Tea Party People. Not a bad choice—but there are others.

“Let’s see...Romney has no stance on the Chick Fil A situation...pissed off the Catholic League and social Conservatives....there goes one part of the voting block.”

Only a trivially insignificant portion of his “voting block” has dropped and it never supported him in any way in any case. So that is all false. Catholics are one of the strongest blocks of the Democrat coalition (most only give lip service to commands about Life) and social conservatives (both these affiliations consider the other somewhat, it not completely, heretical) will vote for him. There is no real alternative.

Rubio is not a Natural Born Citizen and don’t for one second the Enema-media will let that drop. It doesn’t matter that The Disaster isn’t either. And, we know, 35% will be outraged that Mario isn’t while not giving a shiite that The Disaster isn’t.

While Petraeus would not hurt him having little or no political profile, I doubt that he will be named as the candidate.

My guess he will name the most colorless and uninspiring person available.

HOWEVER, he could have a sex-change operation and call himself Mitzie and would still be 100x better than The Disaster. She would get my vote if it is the last thing I do.

Don’t fool yourself.....If folks don’t believe that Obama is not using all of the executive tools at his disposal to spy on his adversaries....we haven’t learned anything. I would not be surprised if he is using the NSA,CIA,FBI, IRS and DOJ to spy on everyone he deems an enemy of the Marxist state. We already know he is using the DOJ and IRS to punish his enemies.

The man is evil and will stop at nothing to retain his power.

Patraeus is a perfumed prince. For the majority of his military career he was a pentagon officer. No combat experience to speak of. He commanded the turkey shoot in Iraq and Afganistan, but has never been an infantry soldier who came up the hard way. A desk jockey. And never forget, any top level military officer that served under Bush, then served under Chairman Obama is not to be trusted. A decent command officer who puts his country first would have resigned the minute Obama took office.

Ryan or Trump. I'll duck arrows here, but Trump would get the 'I love The Apprentice' crowd to vote for him. That's just how bad things have gotten but Romney needs to swipe a few wavering 0bama supporters and Trump can do that for him. It's all about getting the insurgent dictator OUT of the White House. That's job one, whatever it takes.

I do believe that Ryan would energize the base and be the overall best candidate. Trump would also energize the base to the extent we really need to become a 'business-friendly' country again.

“Hey let us know where Romney stands on those issues.”

It depends on which crowd he is in front of.

The 1947 NSA has been amended several times since then. I had thought that they’d eliminated the requirement altogether, but I was wrong. It’s seven years after active duty now, not the ten of the original bill. That be sometime in August 2018. And, of course, congress can always pass a bill exempting a candidate if they would like. In general, it’s probably harder to move a nominee then it would be to amend a statute.

I do believe that Ryan would energize the base...

This just in...the base is already massively energized. Would Ryan turn out more votes that wouldn't normally show up? Maybe. I think someone with his intellect and skill set would be better utilized as Treasury Sec. or Budget Director, assuming Romney would listen to him.

I'm not sure how comfortable I am with Trump on step away from being Commander-In-Chief. I see him as a wonderful cheerleader but I don't have a feel for his policies.

The VEEP is essentially a castrated position unless the unthinkable happens.

Ryan would be much more useful in the cabinet heading the Treasury or the OBM.
