No description at YouTube, so my write up:
CNN's Brianna Kielar spoke with Joe Soptic, a former steelworker featured in a new pro-Obama super PAC ad who was laid off in 2001 when Bain Capital closed the company he had worked at for a reported 30 years. Without directly accusing Soptic and Priorities USA of being despicable liars, CNN lets its reporting call them out as despicable liars.
Soptic told CNN his wife had her own health insurance at her own job when he was laid off. Soptic said his wife quit her job a year or two later due to an unspecified injury, thereby losing her own health insurance. But Soptic still blames her death in 2006 from a brief bout with cancer due to his lack of family health insurance because he was laid off in 2001. In the Priorities USA ad, Soptic says it was a "short time later" from when he was laid off to when his wife got sick and died. CNN reports it was actually five years.
Crossposting from one of the other threads ...
As disgusting as this ad is, it is also very much indicative of how the Obama Campaign is viewing the political landscape right now.
This is an ad designed not to boost Obama’s own base, or to flip moderates/independents over to him. It’s designed, explicitly, to suppress the white blue-collar/working-class voters that will either hold their nose and vote for Romney, or stay home.
It means they think they’ve topped out in terms of their own numbers, and now need to pursue other means to get to victory.
so, pretty much, the only real truth in the ad is the guy’s name and the fact that his wife died of cancer, which happens to about 500,000 per year in the US.
The ad RAN. It SHOULD be a disaster. How did CNN defuse it? It is up to Romney's people to wrap it around Obama.
Decent men are already being arrested for being falsely accused of rape. Do you really want to expand that?
I’m sure Burton knew this and let the ad run anyway. Keep Romney on defense by accusing him of murder. It’s the Chicago way.
obamabots commenting on the article see nothing wrong with falsely accusing Romney of murder.
I wonder how MSNBC will cover this?
They won’t cover it.
Since when do facts and reality matter to Liberals?
Because CNN just defused a potential disaster for Obama.
Exactly! They aren’t doing this because they have seen the light and decided to do honest journalism. They are doing this to cover obama’s ass because the ad may have hurt him.
It’s over save the billowing trail of suspended carbon particles...
Is there any liberal out there that is not a liar?
Yes, insurance is there, and health care. My hubby took care of his own insurance when he was on the hi risk category, it was not cheap but we managed to see that he was insured.
Can someone please tell me what the hell this man was doing for 5 whole years? Was he just unemployed???
According to a recent survey, Democrats have less scruples about lying than Republicans. Which confirms what we already knew.
As Rush would say, “A random act of journalism.”
Obozo must really be in trouble if CNN has turned against him in fact checking the ads from the left............
The ‘story’ was complete garbage before it was even aired.............
I don’t like Romney anymore than anyone else here, but come on, we cannot afford to have Obama in power for four more years, and bring about total socialism....Mitt may be a socialist, but he’s not nearly as committed to it as Obama is.
"..Soptic's conclusion that Romney bears some blame in his wife's death is not backed up factually in the ad. She died in 2006, five years after the plant closed, a fact the ad doesn't disclose..."
Even the Kansas City Star ran the story. This ad backfired!
I have yet to meet one. Seems you must be a liar 1st in order to be a lib.
Using her corpse for political gain.
Wait a minute. Are we still on planet earth? CNN is outing this guy as a liar - when his story may have helped cover Noboma and Nobomacare?
CNN is calling out their own ? What the......?
Yes, hell has frozen over! I am now looking out my window to see if any pigs are flying.
She was a Champion Roller Skater. Under ObamaCare there will be no Roller Skating.
I know a Black Conservative Talk Show Host who had a false rape charge made against him shortly after he started appearing on CNN talking out against Obama.
I salute & congatualate you!!! I’m so wordy in my posts, and...go on and on sometimes. But....your “Had Enough” icon says it all!!! Onward!!!
As Rush would say, a random act of journalism!
Another reason why I don’t date.
So right. Insurance didn’t matter, she died within days of being diagnosed
Because Romney has fallen into the trap of thinking if he plays nice, trots to the left, he will get some democrats to vote for him. So it is the same old thing, placate the left and eff your conservative base. I yearn for Newt Gingrich.
Still something fishy about how CNN handled the story. I won’t be surprised if in the next couple days they will claim to have negative information on Romney that follows up on this story. That’s just how they roll.
The wardrobe and location for ole Joe looks remarkably similar in this ‘uncoordinated’ ad and the previous Obama ad:
Look for yourself:
At some point in the next couple of months....the budget axe is going to fall over the CNN staff, with probably ten percent of their benefits or salary that will be cut in some fashion. You can’t continue the pay scale/benefits unless you have viewers, which they haven’t really had in the last three to five years. My humble guess is that some CNN people see the writing on the wall and absolutely want to probe every story and now give a “fair and balanced” setting. It may be too late to have an impact, but CNN could repair itself.
I hope that they don’t lose their healthcare!
I’m willing to bet that Soptic has filed all sorts of pro se lawsuits, alleging all sorts of conspiracies, violations of civil rights, etc... Every town has at least one, and he fits the part perfectly.
