>What will the job-starved Obama economy look like during the next few years if he were to win re-election in November?
Not much different than it does today: slow, sluggish, sub-par economic growth, higher than historically average post-recession levels of unemployment across the country, increasing poverty, and a line of record-breaking deficits and debt as far as the eye can see.
Obama's running an empty re-election campaign that does not offer any new agenda to boost our economy. He is not proposing any broad initiatives to spur faster growth or higher levels of private sector job creation.
The nearly $1 trillion in failed spending stimulus money he enacted in 2009 has been spent, most of it ending up in the hands of federal, state, county and local bureaucrats with little if any longterm impact on the economy which is slowing down, not speeding up.
Few economists see his chronically weak economy markedly improving in the years to come. The Federal Reserve Board forecasts slow growth this year and next, and possibly into 2014 if not beyond.
That is the reason why they have said that they will maintain nearly- zero interest rates for the foreseeable future.
For all intents and purposes, the Obama economy is on automatic pilot, with no visible policies or leadership at the controls, and with the White House blindly hoping that the economy will improve on its own. It isn't and it won't.
"It is increasingly apparent what the economy will look like when President Obama faces voters in November: pretty much what it looks like today," the New York Times reported in its lead, front page story last month.
Most economists do not expect improvement longer range, either, without a sweeping change in policy.
"This economy has no forward momentum and little help from monetary or fiscal policy," said Kathy Bostjancic, director of macroeconomic analysis at the Conference Board.
The network news shows responded to last month's mediocre jobs numbers with hyper- exuberant rhetorical summersaults that suggested this was the breakthrough everyone's been waiting for.
While the economy added 163,000 jobs in July, it was still an impotent number that didn't come close to what is needed to lower unemployment rates to normal levels.
Total unemployment climbed by another 45,000, boosting the jobless rate to 8.3 percent, and 348,000 workers gave up seeking work and thus were not counted in the jobless equation.
"In the weakest recovery since the Great Depression, nearly the entire reduction in unemployment since October 2009 has been accomplished through a significant drop in the percentage of adults participating in the labor force -- either working or looking for work," writes University of Maryland business school economist Peter Morici.
Though monthly employment growth rose from 80,000 in June to 163,000, it was hardly a blip in a workforce that numbers 150 million Americans -- tens of millions of whom are still looking for a full- time job.
Let's be honestly frank here. The economy would have to add about 13.3 million jobs between now and 2015 -- or about 370,000 jobs a month to lower the unemployment rate to 6 percent.
But to do that, the lackluster Obama economy would have to start growing by 4 to 5 percent a year, instead of the weak 1.5 percent it was growing in the second quarter.
Economist Heidi Shierholz at the leftist Economic Policy Institute told the Washington Post last week that at at the average rate of job growth we are experiencing now, it would take a decade for the economy to return to full employment.
This is the grim, jobless future we face under Obama's economy.
Until now, Obama and his friends in the news media have managed to keep much of the nation's focus away from these troubling statistics that threaten our solvency and even our continued status as the world's largest economic power.
But in the weeks and months to come, Mitt Romney is preparing an avalanche of TV ads to remind voters how bad things have really gotten under Obama's leaderless presidency. Among them:
-- 42 consecutive months of unemployment over 8 percent and climbing again.
-- More than six in 10 Americans say the U.S. is moving in the wrong direction, according to the latest Washington Post-ABC News poll.
-- The same Post-ABC poll in July said that 54 percent of Americans surveyed disapproved of Obama's handling of the economy -- 41 percent strongly disapproved.
-- The Gallup Poll reported last week that 60 percent of Americans now say the economy is getting worse.
-- Younger Americans, including college graduates, are finding it increasingly difficult to find full-time work and one fourth of 18- to-34-year-olds have returned home to live with their parents again.
-- The unemployment rate among 18-to-29-year-olds was nearly 13 percent last month. If you count those who have stopped looking for a job, their jobless rate is nearly 17 percent, according to the youth advocacy organization Generation Opportunity.
-- An Associated Press survey of economists, think tanks and academics last month reported that the official poverty rate will climb from 15.1 percent to 15.7 percent this fall.
There's growing evidence that the daily economic life of ordinary Americans -- people Obama says he's concerned about -- is getting worse. Gallup's tracking poll says that 42 percent of Americans say they are "struggling," and 4 percent says they are "suffering."
Mitt Romney's job is to tell their story and explain how his policy changes will put our economy back on the road to recovery and prosperity again.
Look for him to take the gloves off in the TV ads he is about to run in the coming weeks. It will be no more Mr. Nice Guy from here on out.
Pretty much what the economy looked like after FDR's re-election. It's what happens when fascists fix an economy.
“What is good in life?”
“To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentations of their women.”
That's not enough.
Romney has to kick the s^% out of “O” in the debates... and he has to be SEEN to kick the s^% out of him!!
It has to be patently obvious and unarguable to anyone with eyes and ears.
The golden pass “O” got during the last Presidential debates can't happen again.
If you are a blithering idiot, it's time America SEES you for a blithering idiot. PERIOD
NOTHING short of direct and unequivocal challenges to the Liberals' nonsense will work. If the MSM wants to construe that as a 'personal' assault on their idol, too bad. It's time for the MSM to GROW up and do their job!
Braveheart FREEDOM speech.
Let’s roll and oust this ghetto gay communist thug!
I want to see him talk DOWN to Hussein, like Hussein talks down to America.
Teach Hussein lessons he cannot hope to ever learn in front of the world.
Demean and belittle Hussein personally.
Romney needs to look Brokeback Barack in the face and say - “Mr. President - you failed, you know it, the american people know it, and you should be ashamed of yourself for the campaign you are running”
Since Hussein is also a fraud, call him that.
You think he has pandered before. Ha! Now he is REALLY going to pander. Not just a little. He’s going to be Pander Claus. Panderzilla. The Godpander. He’s going to work the people like a $2 prostitute with a $200 a day habit.
He’s America’s doorknob and everyone gets a turn. It’s going to be Panderpalooza.
My Romney ad : Mitt holding poster of a cute dog. This is Skippy. Skippy is no longer with us because Obama ate him. Yes, Obama is a dog eater. Re-elect him and he may eat your dog. Come to think of it . . the cops have been shooting a lot of dogs lately. Why is that?
Maybe 'President McCain' would like to comment on this tactic?
While on that topic:
O has a style that is dismissive, arrogant and smug.
He could not have reached adulthood with that kind of act if he was EVER the poor, underprivileged soul he purports to be. THAT’S how I know he is not American born and NOT a citizen. He doesn’t have the street-smart bearing or every-day savvy that the least successful TRUE American has.
I grew up in a VERY rough multicultural neighborhood (Polish, Italian, Czech, Hungarian, Syrian, Portuguese, African-American, Greek, Irish, etc). Kids with attitude got their clocks cleaned DAILY and absolutely NO ONE stuck up for them.
O is a fraud and I am sure he’d fold if he got one tenth of the attitude back that he feels he has some God given right to hand out!
Mitt doesn’t need to brutalize “O” but some direct and honest confrontation (btw-the kind REAL American politicians give and get, consistently) will certainly go a long way!
Yes, yes, yes! The jug eared charlatan has a very thin skin and if goaded enough he'll self destruct!!!
Mittens does not wear gloves,he wears mittens which are prmenently super glued on. He will never take them off.
I am going to love the debates. Mitt without TelePrompter, Obama with.
“Mr. Romney, please explain the policies of quantative easing and how they failed in Massachusettes during your time there as Governor?”
“President Obama, do you think that Michelle and the girls should wear blue or pink to the innaugural ball?”
Pretty hard to take the gloves off when they were never on. Romney is John McCain 2.0.
I think Romney is trying to hold off his best attacks until the convention and afterwards because a) the convention gives him an unfiltered chance to make his case to the American public and b) after the convention, he can begin spending money earmarked for the general election.
So far, Romney has been pretty good about hammering Obama on the economy and not getting distracted. It is his best sales pitch and one that even most conservatives can get behind - reduce spending, cut taxes, stimulate growth and investment, create jobs.
I don’t think he’s ignoring that now as much as he likely believes Americans on summer vacations aren’t listening yet. Of course, in this economy, it may be a mistake to believe most of us are still able to take vacations.
“It’s time for MSM to GROW UP and do their job.”
It’s impossible for a revolutionary, psychotic, adolescent Progressive to grow up; they just put their fingers in their ears, say nya nya nya nya, and continue to be obnoxious, irrational, revolutionary Progressives.
After the convention and the formal nomination when those that matter begin paying attention, the dogs can and will be released to go forth and chew to shreds the Obama debacle.
Romney only takes the gloves off when attacking conservatives.
Romney needs to pretend that Obama is a conservative and then he is screwed.
Romney needs to dump his “nice guy” routine and GET MAD!
Look at this new ad with the IDIOT saying “Romney killed my wife”. Romney himself should say, angrily, that “it isn’t my fault he failed as a husband and he was too stupid to use her insurance”.
Seriously, don’t take this crap lying down.
