Obama Is an Avid Reader, and Critic, of the News
NY Times ^ | 8-7-2012 | Amy Chozick

Posted on 08/09/2012 4:49:05 AM PDT by Sir Napsalot

(snip) While former President George W. Bush and his aides liked to say they ignored the Fourth Estate, Mr. Obama is an avid consumer of political news and commentary. But in his informal role as news media critic in chief, he developed a detailed critique of modern news coverage that he regularly expresses to those around him.

The news media have played a crucial role in Mr. Obama’s career, helping to make him a national star not long after he had been an anonymous state legislator. As president, however, he has come to believe the news media have had a role in frustrating his ambitions to change the terms of the country’s political discussion. He particularly believes that Democrats do not receive enough credit for their willingness to accept cuts in Medicare and Social Security, while Republicans oppose almost any tax increase to reduce the deficit.

Privately and publicly, Mr. Obama has articulated what he sees as two overarching problems: coverage that focuses on political winners and losers rather than substance; and a “false balance,” in which two opposing sides are given equal weight regardless of the facts. ....

KEYWORDS:
A lot of things reported by mainstream media are hokum. But this has some rings of truth in it, as Obama is the most thin-skinned person we ever saw on public stage.

With overwhelmingly positive reporting from the media, Obama still is the abject failure that he is. But he can not blame himself, it must be some one else undermine him.

How many times have we seen Obama on stump speech demonizing FoxNews, and sneering at its viewers? (Just one example)

The boy who would be king soaks up news reports because he’s hyper sensitive to criticism and is actively looking for anything coming from his pets to show they aren’t as in love with him as he is of himself.

For some one who likes to critize the media, when is the last time he gave a press conference and took real questions?

I can understand (in the article) “He almost never watches television news.” ===> Because he only watches ESPN on tv.

He reads teleprompters...mostly, pretty well. Beyond that he does not have the knowledge or education that would indicate an interest in reading.

He likely got into Occidental as a foreign admittee...likely he claimed Indonesian citizenship; same true for Columbia and Harvard. There’s nothing in his background that would show an interest in reading about ideas.

Doubt he’s read a book in years.

“For some one who likes to critize the media”

I’ve never heard him criticize any other media besides Faux News.

Since every other outlet including the Weather Channel grovels at His feet, I can understand how he’s an avid reader/viewer.

“Doubt he’s read a book in years.”

It HAS been a few years since he read, or at least prominently carried, “The Post-American World”.

So NY Times, what kind of rocket scientist do you have to be to read the comic strips and editorial cartoons? Because that’s about all Precious TPOTUS does between golf, sports on TV, vacations, and fundraisers. Barry came from the shallow end of the gene and intelligence pool.

This is good news.

After he and his plow mule are thrown out of the Whiteyhut, we can hope the “news” is so overwhelming that Hari Cari will dominate his thoughts as he is forced to suffer the rest of his days knowing America is so happy to see him out on his ear.

I get to work an hour early and drink coffee and read the Waco Trib. Two years or so ago I started editing out lies and commenting on bias with a red Flair pen, also adding "Missing Headlines" for stories being ignored.

I leave the paper in the break room when I'm done. Some of my Co-workers complained to management about my practice. I was told to quit. I told them it's MY paper and nobody is forcing them to read it. If they want their propaganda unfiltered go buy your own. I'm still doing it 2 years later and just wishing they'd try to discipline me over it.

In private meetings with columnists, he has talked about the concept of “false balance” — that reporters should not give equal weight to both sides of an argument when one side is factually incorrect. He frequently cites the coverage of health care and the stimulus package as examples, according to aides familiar with the meetings.

OMG! “private meetings with Columnists”? “reporters should NOT give equal weight to both sides”? So now he is boldly admitting that he advises the press on what to write and what to ignore. Isn’t freedom of the press one of the checks and balances in our constitution? This is scary stuff. Don,t most Dictators do just that?? I find this article extremely upsetting.

My older brother and father live in and around Waco, and I’ve been down there a number of times. I can’t remember much about the Waco Trib when I was down there and assumed it was a conservative paper considering where it’s located...and the fact that my older bro is very conservative. So you’re telling me it’s not conservative?
