Carl Cameron saying VP announced in morning at 9 am. He is saying it sounds like Paul Ryan
“He never served his country” If you mean that he hasn’t served in the military, then I guess John Adams and Thomas Jefferson never served their country either. If it wasn’t for WWII, President Reagan would’ve never worn a uniform either.
If you’re someone who likes Paul Ryan, I’d hate to see your list if you didn’t like him ;)
I expect we’ll see a good sized bump in the polls for Romney/Ryan within a week.
It’s a smart choice. Of all the people Romney could have chosen, Ryan is the one who will actually drive Obama nuts! HA!
Yes, that's what I meant; it's the usual phrase. It's an important issue, for many, whether a Presidential or VP candidate is a vet. Romney isn't, neither are his children. Ryan is not and his children are too young.
It’s barely an issue. As I said, but for WWII President Reagan would’ve never been in the military. Calvin Coolidge was never in the military. Lincoln was nominally in the militia.

Rep. Paul Ryan discusses his Catholic faith and his budget at Georgetown University
House Budget Committee Chairman Rep. Paul Ryans (R-WI) recent comments that his budget was inspired by his Catholic faith has proven controversial.
Thursday morning, Ryan sought to clarify his comments, delivering a speech titled, Americas Enduring Promise, at the Georgetown University Public Policy Institutes 2012 Whittington Lecture.
Here is a key excerpt which specifically addresses how his faith influences his politics:
Of course there can be differences among faithful Catholics on this.
The work I do as a Catholic holding office conforms to the social doctrine as best I can make of it. What I have to say about the social doctrine of the Church is from the viewpoint of a Catholic in politics applying my understanding to the problems of the day.
Serious problems like those we face today require charitable conversation. Civil public dialogue goes to the heart of solidarity, the virtue that does not divide society into classes and groups but builds up the common good of all.
The overarching threat to our whole society today is the exploding federal debt. The Holy Father, Pope Benedict, has charged that governments, communities, and individuals running up high debt levels are living at the expense of future generations and living in untruth.
We in this country still have a window of time before a debt-fueled economic crisis becomes inevitable. We can still take control before our own needy suffer the fate of Greece. How we do this is a question for prudential judgment, about which people of good will can differ.
If there was ever a time for serious but respectful discussion, among Catholics as well as those who dont share our faith, that time is now.

It’s a pay-as-you-go system where earlier investors, or, say, taxpayers, get a positive rate of return... and later investors, or taxpayers, get a negative rate of return,” he said, according to a partial transcript. “And so ... that is how those schemes work. The point is, unless you fix this problem, it’s going to get much worse.”
And how would Ryan make Social Security financially sustainable? By gradually raising the eligibility age, tying the benefits for more wealthy recipients to inflation and offering workers under the age of 55 the option of investing some of their taxes into personal retirement accounts.
Say what you will about Ryan’s willingness to take on sacrificial lambs, he is not shy about pushing controversial proposals — and that’s a rarity in Washington.
“He is a guy without guile, without pretense. He likes to hang out with actuaries for relaxation,” conservative commentator and CNN analyst Bill Bennett said in an interview. Ryan worked for Bennett at Empower America.
And there’s more to Ryan than the D.C. wonk. He’s also a hunter who can target elk with a bow and arrow. And he’s an exercise buff — when in Washington, he works out each morning with some of his congressional colleagues using a grueling fitness routine called P90X. One favorite pastime: trekking the Colorado Rockies.
His devotion to fitness was spurred by the early death of his father at age 55 when Ryan was 16.
“I basically had to learn to sink and swim,” he recalled. “I did a lot of growing up very fast. And it made me take stock of who I am, what kind of person I want to be. It made me, I would say, very initiative-prone — live life to its fullest because you never know how long it is going to last.”
Ryan was pushed again this summer to run for the Republican presidential nomination by assorted GOP luminaries. His answer: No, not yet.
“I think there are other good people who can do this job,” he told CNN. “But there are not other good people who can raise my kids.”
LOL. Ryan is very far from Reagan's Conservatism.
Ryan is not a bad pick for Romney. Ryan is strictly a technocrat. He is fluid in the machinations of policy and he can "sound" conservative when needed.
To compare Ryan to Reagan is an insult.
Remember, Ryan voted for Medicare Part-D, no Child Left behind, ethanol subsidies and other things for which Reagan would never cast a vote.
Ryan's budget proposals can best be called timid. While I think Ryan is a good guy, I don't think he knows or can acknowledge what is truly needed to turn our Republic towards Liberty.
Gov McDonnell is the smart choice and the best choice by far.
They will have to be convinced if it *is* Ryan....it is absurd to think Ryan is going to take away their Medicare.
The plan he created changes NOTHING for anyone over 50 or 55...
Ryan may also put Wisconsin (and perhaps Minnesota?) very much in play.
Where do people get the idea that Portman would be a disaster for conservatives?
Portman has a very conservative voting record. He’s always been a social conservative as well, coming from the Ohio 2d district that almost requires it.
What the worst thing that Portman has done in your mind?
Question: who in the heck would be the purer-than-snow, can't-be-attacked, going-to-satisfy-everyone, candidate or VP candidate?
I've been reading all the "lack of purity" hokum since the campaign season opened and still cannot figure out exactly who the Conservative-Knight-In-Shining-Armor-Who-Can-Save-America-And-Please-Everyone is. It's pretty obvious that whoever this person might be has never run for the office.
Fox and Friends confirms Paul Ryan as runnig mate.
One pro-life agency said of Paul Ryan and his time in Congress that he is one of the few who has never voted against any of their positions on legislation. He has never cast anything other than a pro-life vote on legislation, amendments, etc. That’s a commendable record no matter who you are.
So, if Ryan had been our nominee, I would have gladly supported him.
And not just in pro-life areas but also in other areas important to social conservatives. He is solid in every area in the social/fiscal arena with a 92% lifetime ACU rating.
He's only 42. He never served his country.”
ObaMugabe is going to attack Paul Ryan on Ryan not having executive experience and on not “having served his country” in the military?? Is this the same ObaMugabe who had ZERO executive experience when he was elected, and hasn't even come close to serving in the military and having anything to do with the military in his life , apart from trashing the military?
“His wife is a tax attorney. “
Both ObaMugabe and his wife are lawyers, and ObaMugabe’s wife was actually BANNED frim practicing law, no?
I'd be very happy to see the RATS attack Paul Ryan because his wife is a tax lawyer.
“His father (when Paul was 16), grandfather and great grandfather all died of heart attacks in their 50s.”
ObaMugabe's daddy was a rake , and bigamist, a womanizer and serial maker of babies with different women and a drunk who died from a car accident while under the influence. Never stopped Obozo from wining. Don't let me start on BJ Clinton's daddy either.
Now if the Democrats want to make this about the fathers and grandfathers of the candidates, let them bring it on.
“He's been Obama’s whipping boy since Republicans captured the House. He was “featured” throwing grandma over a cliff in a New York race over the Mediscare reform plan.”
New York is not America, and I live in New York.
“Neither man has foreign policy experience so Ryan offers nothing there.”
You think Americans are worried about Foreign policy at a time when too many have been out of work for the longest time in like forever?
How much foreign policy expreince did “The Messiah” have when he was elected again? ZERO!
“He won't help Romney win Wisconsin. “
Romney already had a very strong possibility of winning Wiscconsin thanks to Governor Walker and his stinging defeat of the RATS in that recall elections. Now Romney chances in Wisconsin just went even higher.
Ryan is smart and articulate but lacks the kind of depth in experience you'd expect from a modern running mate.
