WASHINGTON An Army officer being promoted to brigadier general openly acknowledged her homosexuality on Friday by having her wife pin her star to her uniform, thus becoming the first openly gay officer of flag rank in the United States military.
The officer, Brig. Gen. Tammy S. Smith, 49, a 26-year veteran of the Army, was promoted in a ceremony at the womens memorial at Arlington National Cemetery. The star was affixed by Tracey Hepner, who was a co-founder last year of the Military Partners and Families Coalition, which provides support, resources, education and advocacy for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender military partners and their families, according to its Web site.
The couple married in March 2011 in the District of Columbia.

“It’s a man, baby!”
some higher ups only care about their carers and PC, many are being promoted today based oopenly serving homosexuals need to stop in hte military
So you imagine Romney would sign it. Heh, not hardly. That is the one principle he has consistently held for over a decade. Promote the homosexual agenda and give them whatever support they need, without being open about it.
Make him president and he will never sign anything restricting homosexual activity. Promoting it, yes. Restricting their activity, no.
Of this I have no doubt.
Amen.
sign me up because I;ve had it.
I went to a marine recruiting office the other week and all I will say now is WOW, the marine was an idiot who kept trying to tell mehow he was good.
Do you know what it takes to get in the marines now?
This is the marines not the army where many join that for their 4 years to get their freebies for life,\\\
Men two pulls ups to get in.
women one pull up
to finish training, men 3 pulls ups, 28 sit ups in two minutes, 3 mile run in 28 mins in shorts and sneakers.
women have more time for a run, less weight, less sit ups, less pulls ups etc and yet this marine recruiter tried ot tell me that my son will not be forced to share a room or shower with a homosexual and that women in comat is a good thing.
What is it with the Navy and Army, one pull up now?
The military is not what it was and thankfully I have done my time
The British royal marines don;t even let women serve and they finsih their training with a 30 mile march, run over cross country, over swamps carrying weight in combat kit in just 8 hours then carry the next guy a distance right after, then do pull ups, sit ups, etc
How on this earth can a woman serve and be next to a guy in combat?
I must be a closet hetrosexual? I am kind of private about the whole sex thing.
“That’s a man, baby!” (apologies to men)
They're apparently psychologically incapable of keeping it private. Even before the military was forced let them proclaim their proclivities like some special badge of honor, they found other ways to to rub people's noses in it (e.g. striking suggestive poses in the gym locker room).
Completely agree with the other posters who point out that this person, by virtue of being a demonstrable liar, is not qualified for command.
no congrats from me, she lied and has been ling when she entered the service, when don;t ask was about and has been lying for years especially over security clearence but then again many now are being promoted based on PC in the military.
We need to go back when homosexuals could not serve openly, we did not have cross dressers on base etc, but then again will the cowards in he GOP and talk radio for th most part even mention any of the homostapo’s agenda?
Nah didn’t think so
hmosexuals should not be allowed to seve openly , there has bene many cases of homosexuals but the media refuses to mention this and talk radio stays quiet as always.
Funny how the media ignored Manning once they found out why he did what he did and that he was a homo, bit like when a child is hurt by a man and the media ignore that the man is a queer
GAG ME!!!!!
She might be for smoking pot in the military, too. She looks like a stoner. Might just be she is on prescription meds?
Or, maybe she is just plain homely?
Amen......GOOD decent people will be leaving the military in droves.....especailly if Mitt and Pul get the economy going again.
Disgusting! America has lost her way and I’m afraid we’re going to pay for it in a big way. Such a shame, this country was founded so brilliantly, I’m sad and ashamed to see why my parents generation and my genration have done to destroy that great promise.
In the Last week of AIT I was on KP, up at 0300. Ran the final PT Test at 0930, back on KP until 1930. You couldn’t get into the Mess Hall with less than 10 pull ups at the door, times have changed.
What we truly need is a Commander-N-Chief with a huge set that is going to put his officers in line, straighten out the Pentagon, and put paid to this nonsense. There are MEN fighting and dying in Afghanistan and they are wasting time praising a lesbian!!
I could care less what these people do in their private lives, and for them to rub our noses in it tells me there needs to be demotions or discharges at the highest levels.
Enough is enough!!
“It is up to congress, they controll the code of military law.”
Even if congress were to pass legislation repealing its lame duck repeal of DADT...Myth Romney would still have to sign it.
Where does he stand on that? The truth is that Myth Romney is pro-homosexual and always has been...just like he was in Mass.
My question is will Mitt Romney do anything to stop the spread of Homosexualism in the military?
Not sure if that’s even possible now without expending political goodwill when far more pressing matters exist. Unfortunately, the genie is out of the bottle. The leftists knew this when it was pressed. What needs to be done though is to ensure that gays in the military are held to the exact same standard as all the rest. You get out of line, you get hammered like anyone else.
Sadly, I think it’s here to stay and any President that says he’s going to end it, is probably lying through his or her teeth.
She looks like a Dork.
What is she in charge of Toilet Paper supply?
Yet she has never had anything but a desk job since she entered the Army Reserves. NO combat. She "served" in Afghanistan for 4 days in order to assist the "organizational structure". Her degrees are in project management. She is probably great at MS Excel and MS Project. That does NOT make one a "General". What a sick joke.
She looks like a Dork.
What is she in charge of Toilet Paper supply?
***********************************************************
ahh....toilet paper supply for the Reserves.
sure have, I couldn’t beleive when he told me the newer testing, what a joke it is.
When he told the about the run I asked if that was battle combat kit being worn and he looked stunned and replied no it was not this is sneakers, shorts and a shirt.
This is the news of the weekend. It was all over the place. I am shocked by it. Why would a General even say anything at all? Just do your job for goodness sake. The United States is really going to the dogs. Get rid of this pro-gay crap.
Glad my husband is on terminal leave and retiring officially in October.
He’s worked his BUTT off for 26 years. Did some enormous work in Iraq over the past few years. I was a bit sad he did not get promoted to general, because I felt he deserved it ...but if THIS is what we’re promoting now — forget it. They can have this crap.
The military he served in has essentially, disappeared.
The truth is that the cat is out of the bag, and no one can put it back in.
In order to bring back Don’t ask , Don’t tell it would require tons of new regulations excusing those who have already come out and tons of law suits about those excuses and why other homo’s cannot get in.
It’s impossible for even the most savvy anti homo sexual to get it done. Impossible.
I know many fine Colonels serving in the USAR that are more deserving of the promotion than this individual. This is a political move...plain and simple.
Unfortunately, the POTUS controls general officer promotions.
We need a supermajority to pass the federal marriage amendment. (prefereably one like NC)
Isn’t DOMA the same thing?
Congrats! There is life after retirement for sure!!! I retired last year as a Chief in the Navy. It is wonderful being retired and my family agrees. It is sad what is happening to our military (just awful). Please ensure that your husband gets ALL of his aches and pains listed in his medical record. It is amazing how crazy the process is for the VA. It has been 14 months since I retired and still nothing from the VA....Looking at other people I know who retired a year before me. I should get my info probably in early 2013 only 18 months after retirement....Ugh.
They had to do a walk run in full Kit, as the Limeys, say to get out, I forget the distance. We did a four mile run every morning in boots sans fatigue jacket. This was at the start of the Army DI system but out of Basic Training we ran many of our DI’s in to the ground, I ran in the middle I never had that second kick.
But, the inevitable, realty struck when I went to VN, no matter hard the training is it ain't as hard as the real thing.
26 yrs, built on a lie, and she's now a general.
She lied, she cheated, she's prospered. Great for morale, she's a poster child for honorable service. /s
She belongs in the brig.
I spent 30 minutes arguing with two men about her this morning. One was a 2008 Obama voter and the other's from Denmark.
disgusting isn;t it.
Officers are being promoted based on PC, as this admin knows the mroe officers they get which agrees with their agenda and teir homo agenda then the hqrder it is to throw them out.
What needs to bedone is to say we have had this roblem , that problem, fficers going after young recruits, sexual ffences etc and then say thissocial experiment did not work, it has distrupted the military but on the orders from the Generals I havedecided to stop allowing cross dressing and homosexuals to serve openly
We can stop this madness if the GOP got control and got some balls.
Anyone serving gets to stay in, their sexual life is no concern to us so shut up but if you do go out and shout about it then piss off.
No more openly serving homosexuals, no one being promoted and tell the public that this survey obama did was bogus, that many Generals did not want it and there has been many incidents on base to allow this to go on and thus we are putting a stop to this social experiment.
All it takes is guts and balls to mention this and stop this madness.
Congrats to her! She’ll die never knowing whether she was promoted because she was the best pick, or because she was a lesbian.
This is the legacy of affirmative action.
Some day there will be a real "first openly gay general," a person who entered once DADT was law or now that it's gone. It'll be someone who played by the rules (unlike Smith) and his or her checkbox achievement will not be noted.
sure has changed, hell when the British marines don’t accept women and now homosexuals get promtions even though they were lying then what does that say about what s going on to the military.
When I talked to that marine recruiter it sure made my eyes open.
I’ve never met such a pompous big headed, fool in the military than that guy
Telling me that my son would never be frced to share a room or a shower or a sleeping bag in survival training with a queer, that it;s great to have women next to you in combat even though they do not do the same tests to get there and then try to tell me that women do the same tests but later admits they do not.
I’m just thankful I’ve done my years and can look back at the good pals I made, the countries I went to and the things I did.
I feel sorry for my boys and their future and they’re still in school and feel sorry for my daughter who might never be able to find a decent guy in the future as many boys today are just girlie
Then they’re white , Christian, normal so basically they’re screwed.
Now, everone pretend this unnatural perversion is normal so we don’t damage their self esteem.
Not really a fair comparison. The Royal Marines are an elite light infantry commando force that specialises almost completely in combat (which is why there are no women). The USMC is like a whole separate branch of the military with its own logistics and support units and outside of the combat units the minimal fitness requirements and training for your average US Marine (not including the combat specialists) doesn't need to be anywhere near as tough as it has to be for your average Royal Marine.
I know I was with them for years, 42 comando mountain and arctic warfare cadre.
So we now have a general who for years, decades(?) violated military regulations!
I wonder how many other regulations/laws it has violated during its military career?
If it can violate known regulations just because of the feeling between its legs, just how little coercion would be required to make it become a traitor? I can see the scandal now: “General Court Marshaled for exchanging military secrets for batteries”
Seems the General assumes the authority to decide which laws/regulations apply to it.
While writing other people's FITREPs.
Ah, cool. Still, probably the time to worry is when actual infantry or other combat units have this kind of crappy minimal standard...
that what grates me so much, I see how the military is changing and though myoldest would love to go and seve 42 commando he will not get the benefits like here.
“The truth is that the cat is out of the bag, and no one can put it back in.”
They can at least try. This is just more cowardly surrender monkey talk to rationalize Romney’s horrid stances.
Still wondering why we’re losing in Afghanistan?
You may be old enough to recall that when the word “gay” was first introduced into popular use (it had been used in the homosexual community for decades, or perhaps even as long as a century, as a sort of tongue in cheek descriptor), it described male and only male homosexuals. When the lesbians started to appropriate it, the male homoes protested.
I suspected we had a true, blue Navy dude as “naps coordinator” because I know what a naps coordinator is!
Our family is a 30 yr Navy family...I served for 10 yrs....and retirement happened 5-6 yrs ago. With all this crap going on and, unfortunately, we know, personally, the flags who did it, the sighs of relief are loud around here but we weep for our Navy, country, troopers and sailors who will have to walk the tight rope and have a much harder time doing their job and keeping us all safe...or do we do that now being a “global force for GOOD”?
You come up with a lot of BS, but you offer no solutions. smart guy.
Disgusting perverts.
