If you diagrammed a soccer “game”, you’d have a bunch of field-center squiggles going around and around...endlessly. What’s the point? I know...the nuances of which I am unaware.

Exactly.

There's nothing more "exciting" than a soccer match that ends at 1-0, with the whole game spent at midfield, interspersed with side-kicks and corner kicks.

It is NOT "the Great American Game" for a REASON.
