This is a lame attempt to hold back the flood of Catholic votes for F&R - nothing more.

NGZ - when you are asking the question,

“what does the Catholic church believe?”, as vladimir posted - the Catechism will have the answer for you.

http://www.vatican.va/archive/ENG0015/_INDEX.HTM

This is THE definitive source. It includes scripture citations, all bundled together in a handy reference.

“but yet seeked a psychic, and tried to get me to join”

What, join the Catholic church or join her sessions? Catholics are forbidden from consulting psychics, etc. If she engaged in these activities that she was NOT doing everything that the Catholic church told her.

And nuns, (at least in the United States), aren’t well known for their orthodoxy. They are the source of the worst dissent. There’s a reason why many of them have given up the habit and it has nothing to do with obedience.

“And what about those little “statues” of father this and father that (I forget his name, but he is supposedly the founder of lost things).”

You mean the Saints? Every Catholic has a patron (Mine is St. Hilary of Poitiers),

http://www.catholic.org/saints/saint.php?saint_id=55

Saints are believers who have gone before us for which there are miracles associated with them to confirm that they are in fact in heaven.

If you are interested, you should look up into the doctrine of the Communion of Saints, which is part of the Apostle’s Creed. :)

Many people have little icons (that’s what you are referring to), to represent their Patron.

“But I don’t bow, worship or anything else to ANYONE but the Lord.”

Do you honour your father and mother?

Sorry, my family business is none of your business, nor anyone else. Let's keep it at that.

Ok, I’m sorry.

The New Testament was written in Greek.

There are three words that are used in the original NT - Latria, Dulia and Hyperdulia.

Latria is ‘worship’ and given to God alone.

Dulia and Hyperdulia are ‘veneration’ and ‘honor’.

Catholics give Dulia and Hyperdulia to the Saints, and that is not the same as Latria, which is worship given to God.

This distinction was laid out by St. Augustine to make it clearly to other people what the three Greek words mean.

I’m sorry as well. If I was too harsh, I apologize. I didn’t mean to be.

I’m just worried about my dad (not so much mom because she is still living).

I NEED for him to be forgiven for what he has done. I do not know if he confessed and asked for forgiveness before he died (I was 6).

Oh, I’m so sorry to hear that. I did not know.

My father passed on a few years back, and he wasn’t a Christian.

I understand how you feel.

Things were different back then. My dad and his side of the family were 2 generations ahead, instead of the usual 1 generation.

I just keep praying for him. He did love us, but was “messed up”.

He really was a good soul.
