I think it was more calculated then that. I think he chose him because no one would want Biden to take the office of Prezbo in the real possibility Obama would be impeached. LOL So, raw fear of Biden being President works in Obama's favor? I can see where you're coming from... Good point.

A boy from Penn. saying y’all. Give me a break. Biden was beyond pandering - he was 'rich white boy acting black'. Which is tacky. But worse - Biden wasn't acting middle class black - like the people in the audience - he was acting 'ghetto black'. New Black Panther black - which was stupid... and insulting.
Maybe next time he can do his 'ya all' thing in black face.
