former four-term Democratic congressman from Alabama and one time strong supporter of President Barack Obama will campaign for Mitt Romney Wednesday.

A Romney campaign aide confirms to CNN that Artur Davis will stump for the presumptive Republican presidential nominee in the battleground state of Virginia.

Davis, who is black, may be best known for seconding Obama's nomination at the Democratic National Convention in 2008, when he served as an Obama campaign co-chairman. Davis said he had hoped Obama's presidency would make a huge dent in race relations, as well as move the Democratic Party further to the center.

In 2010, Davis made an unsuccessful bid for governor of Alabama. In May he announced he was switching to the GOP, leaving the door open to a future political bid as a Republican.

Four-term Democratic congressman from Alabama and Obama campaign co-chair endorses Romney? Ouch.

Davis said he had hoped Obama's presidency would make a huge dent in race relations, as well as move the Democratic Party further to the center.

Voter's remorse, eh?

He was my congresscritter. Not bad at all for a dem. Pro 2nd amendment and voted against Obamacare. The Alabama Democratic party pulled the rug out from under him during the primary for dem nomination. They got the blacks to support a white guy instead of Davis because Davis had gone off the dem plantation. I would have given him a good look for governor even though I am a staunch republican

Davis said he had hoped Obama's presidency would make a huge dent in race relations, as well as move the Democratic Party further to the center.

And furthermore, he announced he is hoping that Santa Claus will be good to him this Christmas and leave him a nice new shiny locomotive under his Christmas tree, and he is sure he will be able to get some money for the tooth he left under his pillow for the tooth fairy.

And in other news....

"It takes a spine of steel for a black Democrat to support a Republican running against Obama. Commend him for that."

I agree. Amazing that he had the courage to get "off the plantation". Good for him. A person who has "seen the light" is the most powerful persuader to those still in the darkness.
