For the first time EVER, the Augusta National Golf Club -- home of The Masters -- has admitted a woman as a member ... and the honor went to Condoleezza Rice!!
Augusta -- located in Georgia -- had been a woman-free zone since it opened for business in 1933 ... and only started allowing black men into the club in 1990. Seriously, 1990.
But this morning Augusta announced it had invited the former Secretary of State, along with South Carolina businesswoman Darla Moore, to join the club.
Rice is an avid golfer.
Guess they'll have to build a new locker room.

The inside story on this is hilarious. For years, despite pulling countless strings and offering huge sums of money, the Augusta National Golf Club refused to admit any of the Sulzberger family, who own the New York Times.
They did so because the Sulzbergers, despite their money and power, are course, uncultured, and ungentlemanly scoundrels.
So the Sulzbergers declared war on the Augusta National Golf Club and set out to ruin them in any way they could. Because they were a private club, they were immune from most Civil Rights attacks, finally agreeing to admit blacks in 1990, most likely because it was obvious that Tiger Woods was going to be a world class golfer, who had won the Junior World Championships six times, including four consecutive wins from 1988 to 1991.
But Augusta still didn’t admit women, and the Sulzbergers have railed against them, to the general befuddlement of New Yorkers, on their editorial pages some times on a weekly basis for months on end over this.
Admitting Rice and Darla Moore must be like eating gall and wormwood to the Sulzbergers.
“In 1991, Darla Moore married Richard Rainwater. She was named president of Rainwater, Inc, in 1993. Fortune Magazine named Moore one of the 50 Most Powerful Women In Business in 1998 and 1999.
“Moore is credited with increasing the Rainwater family fortune. Mr. Rainwater were partners in the Texas Rangers baseball team with then Texas Governor George W. Bush.
“Her family are the sixth generation on their South Carolina plantation, thus very old upper-crust southern aristocracy. Several in her family fought on the side of the Confederacy.”
So much for making a joke in the club house without getting sued for sexual harassment/hate crime against women...

White men just need to throw up their hands and give up? Are you complaining that their aren’t any clubs that only allow white men? Well,I think there is at least on club like that left. It has three letters.

I’m fine with this. It’s their club. They did it their way on their timetable. I’ve always been more amused than angered at the protests, anyway, once I thought them over. I mean, rich women can now join rich men on the membership rolls of the poshest, stuffiest golf club in the land. The glass ceiling has broken! Huzzah!
That’s a joke devised and told to support the female admission to all places men used to be able to hang out in, without having to have some women leaning over their shoulder looking for trouble.
It fits nicely with the wave of women now telling men not to get their panties in a bunch, if there’s a disagreement on an issue.
It’s a wedge move to marginalize men so they will let women have their way, without dissenting opinions.
Notice that when it comes to all female enterprises, all of a sudden the story changes, there are all sorts of good reasons for segregation by gender.
Do you think every member of Augusta National is a homosexual? Do you think every member of a club that only admits men, is a homosexual? Really?

I took lessons from a PGA certified pro for several years, a guy who played on the PGA tour until his knees blew out. He told me that the Blue, White, Red and Gold tees should have nothing to do with gender or age but with ability and handicap.
He put this into practice during a playing lesson when he told two of the guys in our foursome, including my husband that they needed to play from the Red tees and moved me to the White tees.
One of the guys (not my husband) protested saying it was insulting to make him hit from the “Ladies” tees and let me hit from the “Mens” and that I didn’t hit my drives long enough to hit from the White (and IIRC, it wasn’t that long of a course and in a lot of cases the Red and White tees were not all that far apart, 20-30 yards).
The golf pro told him, “Yea she doesn’t hit her drives quite as long as you do but unlike you, she’s mostly in the fairway or light rough were as you are lucky if you are not in the next fairway or in the trees”. “But if you want to hit from the White tees…” then he took the guy’s driver and 2-iron from his bag and said “you can have these back when you learn to hit them”. True story. :),
