Libertarian Party Presidential Candidate Gary Johnson

The Former Governor of New Mexico and current Libertarian Party candidate for president Gary Johnson isn’t likely going to become the next president, but that doesn’t mean he won’t have an effect on the outcome of the election come November.
Johnson briefly participated in the Republican primaries and debates before switching over to the Libertarian ticket, and per Fox News, Johnson is polling about 5% nationwide, which isn’t particularly bad for a third party candidate. Despite his low numbers, Johnson isbeginning to show a little pull in a few battleground states out west which includes New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, and Colorado.

According to the same poll, he is polling at about 9% in Arizona and 13% in New Mexico – it’s not enough to win, but it could certainly be enough to hand out a disadvantage to the major party candidate that he is taking votes away from.
Earlier in the week, the Libertarian Party had this to say about Gary Johnson, “Libertarian Presidential Candidate Gov. Gary Johnson Could Deprive Mitt Romney of 5 battleground states, 74 Electoral Votes, 27% of the Electoral Votes needed to win in 2012.”

Possibly, depending on what States he qualifies for. I’m more concerned about Goode who seems to be attempting to purposefully qualify for swing States with very close races like Virginia where a few thousand points or a delegate allocation could make the difference. It is almost like Goode is targeting Romney versus trying to win.
Agreed. And who’s to say these candidates wouldn’t steal votes away from 0bama? I’d be far more worried about voter fraud, especially with illegal aliens getting driver’s licenses (Voter I.D.) under 0bama’s amnesty plan. ‘Motor voter’, same day registration, etc.
It’s not like it hasn’t happened before, thank you Ralph Nader (and Pat Buchanan). G.W. Bush had his faults, but not being Al Gore was certainly not one of them.
I don’t see him polling more than 5% in any state, but depending on the state, his support could be enough to tilt the election to Obama.
At least I’ve heard of Goode. I never heard of this other guy or the outfit hawking him.
Not unless he's led all candidates with 37% support for part of this summer. Let's hope he's not the libertarian Ralph Nader in his impact of this year's election (I think around 5% of the vote).
Actually, Nader got 2.7% (2,880,000) of the vote in 2000 and around 97,000 votes in Florida.
Former Gov of NM. Love the guy on fiscal issues. Like most Libertarians though, he completely goes rubber room when it gets to social issues and foreign policy. Anyone who claims Iran is no great threat needs to be as far away from the Oval Office as possible.
I think there was some polling that suggested that Johnson might tip Colorado to Romney (taking the pot vote from Obama).
I don’t think so. America is VERY different now. Polls make it clear that there are only somewhere between 2-4% of people that either haven’t made up their minds or are open to changing them. All the other votes are set in stone. It’s why I don’t expect much of a bump for either Romney or Obama after the Conventions.
True. A better anology is Ralph Nader, who gave the presidency to Bush 43.
Another irrelevant egomaniac decides to screw up a presidential election. If this clown actually cared about the future of the USA, he’d drop out and endorse Romney, reminding his idiot followers that the most important thing in the world is to get rid of Obama. He can always bitch and moan after Romney is elected.
What has Obama promised him if he takes enough votes to get Obama reelected?
If he is being funded by Soros and company, yes.
If they see a use for him, he’ll get plenty of Democrat and Soros money. Woodrow Wilson pulled this trick with ex-president Teddy Roosevelt and the Bull Moose Party, IIRC.

Gary Johnson has the charisma of a cashew. Who’s ever heard him speak? Did he even get invited to a Republican debate? I think he did, but I can’t remember. Unless the MSM starts pushing him hard, don’t think GJ is much of an upsetter.
Johnson was kept out of the debates because he actually does have charisma. Combined with being extremely intelligent on the economy, he could have drawn numbers that threatened the effort.
The GOP allowed huntsman to be in debates when he polled less than GJ. The major polls excluded him from polls and then said he didn’t meet their polling percentage to be included in the debate. Neat trick. Pure GOP corruption. Whether you like Johnson or not, the methodology they use to exclude guys like johnson is how they ensured their chosen ones win the primary.
Nobody ever took on new Mexico democrat corruption head on like Johnson. He vetoed so much they stated calling him ‘doctor no’. The GOP could never work with him, and it isn’t because of social issues, I its because he hates corrupt and wasteful spending.
He's not a one-off vanity party candidate. He's the Libertarian Party's candidate. They are on the ballot in all 50 States, something they work to maintain between elections.
His treatment was shameful, I agree. Whether it was horrible enough to punish the GOP by voting for him, and thereby delivering the country to another four years of Obama, though, is pretty easy for me to say. (No!).
But different people will do the calculus differently, and if he ends up costing Romney the election hopefully the GOP powers will stop trying to manipulate the process. The Huntsman exception was particularly glaring. Every single person I know who thought Huntsman was a good candiate is now supporting Obama.
(IE: He wasn't a legit Republican even.)
He’ll get less than 1% of the vote. Another Ross Perot? Come on, at least Perot doesn’t have hairplugs.
If Johnson had the ability to really pull “Obama votes” his way - which I doubt mega-seriosuly - in any state, and I lived there, I could vote for him. Notlikely to happen.

Agree - we’ve got bigger problems to deal with, like getting that clown out of the Missouri Senate race.
Johnson is a no-name and the vast majority of Republicans are voting AGAINST Obama, not really for Romney. They just want Obama out, and they know a vote for Johnson doesn’t do a bit of good.
Democrats, especially the ones that want the free drugs, may very well vote for him - so he could wind up hurting Obama more than Romney.
Bottom line, there’s a lot more to worry about than this clown.
