Shortly after it was announced that Rep. Paul Ryan would join the Romney ticket as this year's Republican vice presidential candidate, I wrote a piece titled, "What We Know About Paul Ryan and Blacks."
Well, I recently learned of another significant addition to this list.
As reported on Twitter by CNN's Pete Hamby, Ryan said he has a black sister-in-law, but perhaps even more interesting, his "college sweetheart" was African American.
So here is the million-dollar question: Is the fact that Ryan has dated interracially a noteworthy detail to consider when analyzing his politics and policies?

Yeah, well... But you sure didn't beat us to that awful battle cry. Your silly "Hooyah!" or "Hoowah!" - or whatever it is - was shamelessly copied from our silly-but-original "Oorah!" I guess there are some things that are just right, regardless of who thunk it first. Semper Fidelis... -AAM
No bearing on anything at all.
They broke up when the boyfriend realized that he could not take “0” home to meet his parents.
In asking if Ryan’s black sweetheart should matter, was the author trolling for racism in conservative responses to his question, or was he telling us that he would never expect that white conservatives would do such a thing?
In asking the question, what is “black”, I find out how often people who claim to be so racial sensitive reveal stunningly racist assumptions. Indeed, Nobel Prize winning poet Tony Morrison wrote in an October 1988 New Yorker article titled “Clinton as the first black president”. If so, then what is “black”?
When Bill Maher, during a panel discussion on HBO complains that Obama’s policies are “half-assed” “because hes only half black.” and that “if he was fully black, Im telling you, he would be a better president.”, and that “there’s a white man in him holding him back”, than what is “black”?
And when someone opposes polices of the Obama Administration, they are called “racist”, then what is racism other than opposition to a black president because he is black. Such reasoning demands that the policies in question are a result of the way blacks think and evaluate facts and formulate policy. Moreover, these are policies that liberals support exposing the belief that black = liberal. Well, it goes a bit deeper than than, actually over to the back side of the coin.
In the upside down, inside out turmoil and chaos of the liberal mind, the assumption is that “people of color” think differently than people not “of color”. In short, liberals think that everyone who is not Caucasian, male, and middle class thinks differently than people who are. Thus the emphasis on and preference for “people of color”.
So, in this long, round-about manner we can see how a liberal reporter would make an issue of Paul Ryan having a girlfriend who is black. In the reporter’s world, such a thing would be impossible. And such racist assumptions permeate the thinking of many liberals.
No, but nice try at diversion. How about you Obots stop trying to distract and demagogue and try sticking to the issues?
well, he is NOT racist.
Yes, and it was a load of baloney, obvious to anyone who took a close look at the accusation. Not that the media didn’t do everything they could to trumpet it far and wide.
I guess it all depends on whether or not she is good looking. We need to stick to priorities.
“Is the fact that Ryan has dated interracially a noteworthy detail to consider when analyzing his politics and policies?”
I have to see a picture of his “college sweetheart” to make a determination. :-)
“For the record: No, I am not calling Ryan a racist. I am saying”
You assume too much Ms. Keli Goff .
How about investigating Obama instead?
“those who hold stereotypes about a particular group of people are unlikely to have those stereotypes altered merely by encountering someone who defies that stereotype. Instead, they are likely to view the individual defying said stereotype as an exception.”
“Not every stereotyper is blind to the individuality of every member of the group she stereotypes. We have seen that a stereotyper can acknowledge a particular member of a group as being an exception to a stereotype.”
Nice, Cherry pick what you want to people to hear and with alittle wordsmithing you have propaganda. Maybe Lou Dobbs just doesn’t like Illegals? And, wasn’t Sen. Strom Thurmond of South Carolina a Democrat before he saw the err of his ways and moved to the light, I mean right?
Since when when did it become against the law not to like someone because of the way they act or something they have done.
PS. I don’t like you, sue me.
I think I saw that story!
Does Paul Ryan’s Black Ex-Girlfriend Matter?
Is she hot?
In 1989 I dated a black girl who was a Democrat. And she was hot, too!
Conservatives don’t consider race relevant to governmental decisions, so it doesn’t matter to us. Liberals are inherently racist, but they always apply a double standard to republicans, so the fact that Ryan is indifferent to race will not help him with liberals, not when they judge him as a conservative.
Quite frankly, I don’t give a damn one way or the other. This was a stupid race baiting question asked by Keli Goff, a black women, a blogger and political commentator known for her contributions to the Huffington Post.
Only to a racist.
As a brother in arms, you know I am just kidding, and hope you know of my utmost respect for your personal contribution as I assume yours for mine. We may not have chewed on the same dirt in some far off land but no matter because the taste is always the same.
I’d say “no more than it matters that Obama is half Arab.”
Or is it 25%? Either way, race just isn’t the issue progs try to make it..
Amen! Men fall in love through our eyes. It's just the way God made us.
I am a black woman, I am a Conservative, I do not wear $300 sneakers or smoke anything? what is your point?
