Todd Akin reaffirms decision to stay in the Senate race
Wapost ^ | 8/21/12 | Nia-Malika Henderson

Rep. Todd Akin, the embattled Senate candidate who used the phrase “legitimate rape” in talking about abortion and pregnancy, said Tuesday afternoon that he would stick to his decision to remain in the race.

Also, if you looked a little deeper, you’d find that studies show that about 10-15% of pregnancies due to rape result in a miscarriage.
I've seen the link already and read what it says.
Would you please post the actual text that supports your assertion.

I’d like to know just what cause they’re fighting for that makes it worth losing the Senate over.

Akin is the one who blew it. That question should be posed to him.

No,because I see this guy for the idiot he is, and that he will continue to be an idiot and make inappropriate comments

Have you ever made a dumb remark? SO he's an idiot over a dumb remark. I'll bet you have made a dumb remark so that must make you an idiot.

that the media throws back at the GOP as whole, that he’s going to cost the GOP what was widely considered the most “winnable” Democrat seat in the Senate at minimum.

I addressed this right above this post to you. And nooo... it doesn't have to be the rats in the media who set the agenda. What is really going on is a bunch of spineless Rs who let the media and Dims walk all over them without putting up a vigorous defense.

If you still can’t see that, well then, I feel sorry for you.

You get played; you should feel sorry for yourself not me.

So what you gonna do now after Akin's made his decision to stay? Are you going to oppose Akin and support Mccaskill, or are you going to rejoin the circular firing squad helping the Dims win Missouri?

I know, but it would be sweet to force them to realize that the one person in the race who could eliminate this issue entirely was the one candidate they detested.

Why so many republicans run from a fight makes me wonder if we can win. HE WILL BEAT CLAIR MCASKILL!!! He apologized for the word “ legitimate” MOVE ON!!!

Amen.

Come November in Missouri, if Mr. Akin stays in the race, it will still be between a:

Socialist

or

A True Conservative (who stuck his foot in his mouth)

I know who I'd vote for. All of you defeatists make me sick. Where is your fight? Biden says something stupid every single day of the week and yet he's not been asked to step aside. What about Pelosi, Reid and Seal Team Leader Obama's daily gaffes?

He has apologized, and that is good enough for me. He is 10000000% better than Obama's Buddy, Claire.

It’s sad to hear someone who wants to be a US senator, saying such stupid things and repeating urban legends.

The fallout from this will be never-ending.

Besides the obvious ramifications for regaining the Senate, repealing Obamacare, etc, social conservatives should be asking themselves if this half-wit is who they want as the face of their movement. He epitomizes every caricature and stereotype the left has used to discredit evangelical Christians. Look for his candidacy, and what is sure to be a steady supply of gaffes and malapropisms, to feed that meme.

Kamikaze Akin's suicidal urge to stay in this race with no financial or institutional support just reinforces the image of fanaticism that the left pins on pro-lifers.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned in my life, it is that education and actual intelligence are not co-dependent on each other. I’ve met some absolutely brilliant people who had no more than a high-school diploma. On the other hand some of the biggest, most helpless fools I’ve known were extremely well educated. As a point of reference, go visit any college campus today and you’ll find multiple tenured professor’s that thrive in their shielded environments but would flail about helplessly in the real world.

After Sept. 25, he would be required to get a court order to withdraw from the race.

And that would probably not be granted. Missouri election law is pretty clear: "Whenever a candidate for nomination or election to an office is disqualified after 5:00 p.m. on the sixth Tuesday prior to a primary election, general election or special election to fill a vacancy, his name shall be printed on the primary, general or special election ballot, as the case may be. The election and canvass shall proceed, and, if a sufficient number of votes are cast for the disqualified candidate to entitle him to nomination or election had the candidate not become disqualified, a vacancy shall exist on the general election ballot or in the office to be filled in the manner provided by law."

September 25th is the 6th Tuesday before election day. If a candidate withdraws from the race it's handled the same as if he was found to be unqualified to hold the office. By law if Akin doesn't leave before 5 PM on the 25th then his name remains on the ballot. And if he gets the majority of the votes then the seat is vacant and our Democratic governor will appoint a replacement.

Howard Dean, that is an excellent example of a guy who made one false move and got ruined by it.

I heard a reporter who was there say that in person it was really nothing. It wasn’t even a mistake, or a bad remark, or anything. He just got a little over-enthusiastic.

Yeah, we all think the media is against our side, but the fact is the media are a bunch of hyenas that will destroy anyone on a whim.

Of course I did not support the big leftie Howard Dean, but that mockery of him WAS unfair.

Thanks for reminding everyone that LIFE isn’t fair. If only Akin could get him mind around that fact.

If we have a good election nationally and Barry is sent packing, I am not so gloomy, with or without Akin remaining in the race. Every single election there are one or more Republican candidates whose candidacies go horribly awry. It does not have to upset the whole applecart unless everyone on our side goes all wobbly. Also, there are more Senate seats where, in a bad year for Democrats, the Republican candidates can do better than currently expected (Mass., Maine, Conn.....). The other point is that although controlling the Senate is great, we never had any chance of having 60 Republicans, let alone 60 conservatives. So the whole notion of a conservative Senate juggernaut was a bit of fantasy. This Akin (who outside of Mo. had even heard of this guy a few days ago?) does not have to become the focus nationally unless we collectively roll over and allow the MSM to dictate the terms of battle. I think we need to toughen up!

Ever read about what happened in Berlin in the spring of ‘46?
Why, yes, I have.

A lot of German women were having Russian babies.
Some Russian women were having German babies before that. Did you miss reading about them?
And how many is "a lot" and how many births were from rapes versus giving birth due to collaboration or for "sex for food" or other necessities? You know, like with what happened with women in France and many of the other occupied countries?

Guess they must not have read your study before they were raped.
So all of the women who were raped, by both sides and of whom there were plenty, became pregnant? Or just some of them?

If you could do that, what would be the point of a primary election in the first place? If you could do that, there would be no Cruz about to be the senator from Texas, the Tx GOPe would have kicked him out.

The Missouri Senate election depends how Akin from here on out runs his campaign.

And Charlie Cook just changed his rating on the MO Senate race from "Tossup" to "Likely Democratic" as long as Akin stays in.

His willingness to toss away the MO Senate race and, potentially, GOP control of the Senate, with all of its implications for repeal of Obamacare and future Supreme Court picks, reveals a narcissism worthy of Obama himself.

Do you even understand what this is telling you? I love it when people post articles beyond their own comprehension. Nobody has denied that stress can inhibit many things, however, we’re talking about long-term suppression of hormonal activity vs a short term momentary event.

If a woman is raped, the event is sudden and instant, if she’s a fertile time in her cycle, meaning she’s ALREADY OVULATING(whereas the article states that stress can prevent it, but not if its already going on), she will very likely get pregnant if the rapist ejaculates inside her.

From your article.

“In humans, CHRONIC stress can lead to a drop in sex drive as well as a drop in fertility.”

Unless a woman is getting raped on a daily basis, the point you were trying to make is meaningless, you should really read your own source material before going for a “gotcha.”

"Scientists know that stress boosts levels of stress hormones - glucocorticoids such as cortisol - that inhibit the body's main sex hormone, gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH), and subsequently suppresses sperm count, ovulation and sexual activity."

No help there for a woman who has already ovulated.

"In humans, chronic stress can lead to a drop in sex drive as well as a drop in fertility. [...] Kirby showed that acutely stressed rats showed increased RFRP levels for several hours, but that levels returned to normal by the next day. Chronically stressed rats, however, were left with longer-term elevations of RFRP levels in the dorsomedial hypothalamus area of the brain, and suppression of activity in the reproductive axis - the hypothalamus-pituitary-gonadal hormone cascade"

The stress due to rape is not chronic stress.
