Rep. Steve King: I’ve never ‘heard of’ statutory rape victims becoming pregnant
Yahoo News ^ | 8-21-2012

Rep Steve King (R-Iowa) jumped into the "legitimate rape" fray Tuesday by telling a local reporter that he doesn't personally know of any victims of statutory rape or incest who became pregnant from the attacks.

The reporter asked King about a bill he put forward last year that would have barred federal Medicaid funds from going towards abortions except when the life of the mother is in danger or in the case of "forcible rape." (The current law just makes an exception for "rape," without the forcible part.) The new terminology would most likely prevent people who become pregnant from incest or statutory rape--when an adult has sex with someone under the age of consent--from accessing Medicaid-funded abortions. King told the reporter he didn't know of anyone who had become pregnant under those circumstances.

"Well I just haven't heard of that being a circumstance that's been brought to me in any personal way, and I'd be open to discussion about that subject matter," he said. (Talking Points Memo points to a 1996 Guttmacher Institute study that found that half of all pregnancies among minors were fathered by adult men.)

If women don't get pregnant when they're raped then there is no reason to call it a separate crime. Just call it assault with battery and be done with it. If they can't get pregnant why make a distinction?

We make a distinction because woman CAN AND DO get pregnant when they are rapped and this is 1000X worse than getting punched in the face.

Re; Steve King: I’ve never ‘heard of’ statutory rape victims becoming pregnant.

Does he know how pregnancy occurs??? In general statutory rape is sex between an adult and a minor.

For years i’s been clear that pubbies get into horrible trouble when they let themselves get sucked into talking about the finer details of Christian theology and the finer details of sex. They should always make general, incomprehensible remarks about both and get immediately on to thier strong points. These two areas are clear traps no pubbie should ever step into.

after reading your post I went back to read more carefully.

Question from reporter:

The reporter asked King about a bill he put forward last year that would have barred federal Medicaid funds from going towards abortions except when the life of the mother is in danger or in the case of “forcible rape.”

“”Well I just haven’t heard of that being a circumstance that’s been brought to me in any personal way, and I’d be open to discussion about that subject matter,” he said. “

Can be interpreted 2 ways...the way the lefties have obviously interpreted it....or you could say no one has come to him saying they were denied medicaid funding.

I do believe you are correct Laz

Unbelievable. Are there really people this stupid in the world? I mean people actually and legitimately think like Akin and King that you can’t get pregnant because of different forms of rape?

I don’t even care if these people believe in 95% of the same things I do it’s utterly terrifying to me that people that stupid are in positions of power.

And the Pulitzer Prize for creative reinterpretation of an extracted quote goes to Yahoo News.

For the New York Times to beat this, they will have to turn a Republican quote on being too young to personally know anyone killed in the Holocaust into an anti-Semetic Holocaust denial through careful use of ellipses.

Why is everyone freaking out over Akin’s or King’s comments?

Because when the Democrats want to know if the Mars rover is anywhere near where the Apollo astronauts landed, it proves they're incapable of operating government. Because when a Democrat says that there's such a large military presence on an island that it might flip the island over and sink it, it proves they're incapable of operating government. Perhaps there IS a biological mechanism which deters raped women from getting pregnant!

If a candidate cannot puzzle out why that's not even logical, it proves our candidate is incapable of operating government.

Why should the people running the government be unconstrained by logic and allowed to say the most idiotic things imaginable?

Is there some sort of epidemic of “Political Tourettes” out there for GOP candidates? Why is King offering an opinion on this?

” Perhaps there IS a biological mechanism which deters raped women from getting pregnant! “

Not if she has already ovulated. If the egg has been released, then a rapist’s sperm will find it.There is no shutting down process here.

Rapes can, and do, result in pregnancy.

If she has not ovulated it is possible the trauma of a rape can postpone the ovulation.

Liz Goodwin is a lying beotch of a reporter---even by Yahoo standards. That is certainly not what King said.

So, rest assured, we do not have yet another Akin-like moron serving in the House.

Why are Republicans even talking about this?!?!?

Because that retard in MO spilled his blood in the water. No way King would have been even asked but for that imbecile Akin. This is now going to be a universal question designed to embarrass Republicans, Ryan is top of the list because he cosponsored a bill with Akin. The feeding frenzy the "surround your wagon" FReepers said would happen if Akin quit is happening anyway. I thought if Akin stayed, this would all disappear? No?

I don’t think there is any doubt in my mind that Akin should step down, and now. This is beyond repair. It was stupid statement, and that’s that. I’ve been reading commentary here that says differently, but Folks, our side is different. We don’t tolerate the tax cheats, the sex fiends, the Harlem politicians that are corrupt. We take them out.

Please, Mr. Akin, don’t leave mad, just leave.

Your defense of Akin has gone from misguided to satire. Please, face the reality of the state run media and how these guys are slitting our throats with these asinine comments.

Krauthammer is a licensed physician. He may well mention this issue, perhaps in passing or in detail,at some point. If he backs up Adkin or King then perhaps there's something to discuss. However,I think that that's *highly* unlikely to happen.

And yes,I understand that some here aren't huge fans of Krathammer but he *is* a physician and he *is* loathed and despised over in DUmmieLand (and other places where Commies congregate).
