There are two sides within the anti-abortion movement. On one side, stand men and women who care deeply about human life and fear that abortion devalues society by creating a caste of disposable people. On the other side, lurk crabbed adults who think women should be punished for having extramarital sex and that pregnancy is fit punishment that (luck of the draw) spares men and falls instead on women and girls.
I think we all know which corner hosts Rep. Todd Akin.
(Excerpt) Read more at realclearpolitics.com ...
Todd Akin has become a weapon against the pro-life movement and the entire Republican Party. He could damage the entire pro-life cause this election cycle. And it’s his own fault, as Ann Coulter, Debra Saunders, Laura Ingraham, and many others have pointed out.
Missouri conservatives, we need you now. Get this guy to drop out before he buries us all!
And another, and on & on?
Lets republicans try something different this time... instead of running in circles screaming hysterically, why not just shrug off any requests for comment and direct any comments to Akin's office, end of story? Let Missouri deal with him.
Ohhh so you haven't heard.
The conservative Missouri state GOP legislative caucus is backing Akin 100% and telling the wimpy group of flip flopping old Senators and the GOP to grow a spine and stand up to these kinds of attacks from the Democrats or shut up.
Akin sounds like a guy who has spent alot of time living in an Evangelical Christian bubble and has never really seriously thought through his policy positions or dived deeper than a bumper sticker on any intellectual topic—not a healthy way to come across if you claim to be an engineer with a divinity degree. He told Hannity that he got his ideas about the female reproductive system from a “couple articles” he read years ago (amazing considering abortion is his big issue) and he was stunned to hear that the PPP poll he was relying on grossly over-sample Republicans. Somebody that ignorant who gets placed on the national stage is a walking gaffe bomb.
Incidents like this really bring the GOP Christophobes out of the woodwork.
I don’t particularly care for the crusty perspectives on morality better expressed in contemporary vernacular. But this guy is getting crucified through baseless demagoguery.
Akin has let the media to change the discourse of this election from the economy to rape. Unless he withdraw by Sep 25, my tag line applies.
Sorry when the first paragraph is so biased I can’t bring myself to read the rest of the article.
I couldn’t agree more, but it looks like this guy is going to place his own personal Senate ambitions ahead of the interests of his state and country.
If he does get ready to roll over once a week till election time.
This article is right on the money. Akin has damaged all prolifers. He’s a zealot and a moron.
So this election (which I think is already lost thanks to Akin) comes down to supporting a party led by an avowed communist...
...or a party running a candidate in a must have state that thinks a 13 year old who is raped by a career criminal should be mandated by the state to have that career criminal’s baby.
We...are...doomed...
Ohhh Nooo !!!! What will everyone do in face of your tagline.
What other seats are up for grabs???
Why don't you take the money you will save in Missouri and go win those seats???
BTW neither the national GOP nor any of those asking Akin to resign ever lifted one finger to help him in his primary. He owes them nothing.
And another, and on & on?
Exactly. The GOP-E is doing exactly what the Rats want them to do.
This is what I hate about the gutless GOP...Dems commit actual crimes and are lauded. Bill Clinton actually raped women and is the keynote speaker at their convention. Akin used an awkward phrase- his point was true that the baby conceived in a rape is innocent and not deserving of being killed - and the long knives of his OWN party are out in minutes. Pansy-a$$es, all of them. Play hard or go home! Afraid of a down and dirty battle and unable to keep the conversation about the ECONOMY! As soon as there is a viable party that can win elections I’m outa there.
Well, if we fail to replace Reed especially by one seat, he will be remembered in history as the one who save ObamaCare, together with Roberts.
Oh come on. There are other seats besides Missouri. Go concentrate on those. If you fail to replace Reed it will be the fault of those who didn’t win those other seats, not Akin. Quit bellyaching and go win them.
And a good chunk of the GOP will get credit for the assist.
In social situations, business & private, when a fauxpaus is made the best course is to maintain your composure, move on as quickly as possible and, if you must, pitch a fit in private.
The GOP has that exactly backwards and it NEVER ends well.
Ann Coulter, Laura Ingraham>> who made fun of Palin as being too much of a negative and also that she was too young to run the country. if you believe in a cause, pro life-how in the world can one person change one’s convictions. They are so worried that Romney may not win, I guess.
Bellyaching and running around shouting the sky is falling, is just so much easier and more fun than actually doing something. :)
The statements themselves are easily defensible and are in no way similar to those examples you cite.
A caucus of conservative Missouri state legislators gave Akin their unwavering backing today and told that squishy group of old Senators asking him to resign to grow some spines and grow up and stand up to the Democrats.
Akin is a Huckabee, pro-life evangelical and he and his hardcore supporters see everything through a narrow pro-life lens. To them, and despite what Akin himself now claims, he really said nothing wrong. I guarantee you that many of these people, as witnessed by some right here on FR, still believe a woman’s body magically seals itself against most pregnancy from rape. These are single issue voters who no doubt have convinced themselves that all these calls for Akin to step aside are some diabolical, satanic plot. No doubt they believe they can pray their way out of it.
The article is garbage. We’re doomed because of “conservatives” like you and the NRO crowd.
Don’t worry, though, Mittens is likely to win, even though he and Ryan are as dangerous as Obamalini.
What a crowd of lemmings.
How dare they presume that killing babies is somehow immoral! I'm sure that if somebody were to kill your children, just jam scissors in their heads, for the sake of getting mitt elected, you'd be fine with it, as would all politically correct, nuanced people would. You are a patriot!
The real "magic" here is fear of liberal opinion more than the fear of God, from Whom the right to life derives.

Sure Deb; you sound like you really know pro-lifers.
No — Akins is also implying women who miscarry “probably stopped that thing” subconsciously due to a desire to not have the child.
idiot. Sorry to say he’s GOT to go.
4L
Akins = Akin
Oh stop it. I agree with them and am absolutely pro-life. We are talking about politics here. The point is, Akin and his deadenders are only looking at this through a narrow POLITICAL perspective. Single issue voters are like that. They can't see the big picture because they are so obsessed with their one issue.
I’ve thought the same thing skeeter. Is it really that far fetched to hypothesize that a body in a severe state of stress may not conceive due to the chemical reactions in the body at the time?
The single issue voters who are the problem are the ones who vote against the guy for the single issue that he said something stupid.
Debra here is a pervert ~ she needs to seek some help to clear away her dark vision of her fellow human beings.
Has Juanita Broaddrick weighed in on this?
“Todd Akin has become a weapon against the pro-life movement and the entire Republican Party.”
A big AMEN to that, brother!!!
Todd Akin is garbage that will get his, whether it’s in this life or the next.
This is a true test for the Rience-Romney-Ryan GOP to do what must be done and get the piece of sh*t to drop out NOW.
I’m aware that there are other seats. That’s why I said especially if e short of one seat.
As I said before we set impossibly high standards for our side, then we conservatives wonder why we can never win.
No he hasn’t. You and people like you have.
I invited my girlfriend to visit this evening. I said, come on over baby, theres whole lotta Akin goin on!
Which ones are up for grabs???
We're talking about something far more important than politics. Frankly, the suggestion that abortion is just some backburner issue to be ignored (again) in light of such "pressing" issues as the expiration of certain tax breaks is disgusting.
If you think attacking a pro-life champion for an admittedly stupid comment is going to somehow render RINOs more endearing to either Conservatives, or the liberal media the mittarded ones so love, forget it.
When mitt opened his mouth today he lost the election.
this article is complete crap
“The conservative Missouri state GOP legislative caucus is backing Akin 100% and telling the wimpy group of flip flopping old Senators and the GOP to grow a spine and stand up to these kinds of attacks from the Democrats or shut up.”
well they do have a point, same kind of garbage happened to Hank Jr. Media had a field day, twisted what he said and kaboom. they smell blood and the press is a bunch of sicko vammpires
you sure? sheesh you are so judgmental
“this guy is getting crucified through baseless demagoguery.”

Deace is saying anyone who's an enemy of Mitch McConnell and Mitt Romney is a friend of his, meaning Todd Akin in this case. Deace's really interesting theory is that the GOP elites know Missouri is a conservative state who will elect a staunch conservative, so they are jumping at the chance to boot out Akin and replace him with a handpicked RINO. Deace is a staunch Christian conservative who is one of the biggest RINO hunters out there I've seen so far. Looks like you can listen live online...
