Oklahoma horseman William Edmond “Bill” Maher, 68, El Dorado, Oklahoma, died Saturday, August 18.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 22, at Carlson Funeral Home in El Dorado. Interment will follow in Cumberland Cemetery.
Bill was born on February 5, 1944, in El Dorado, Kansas. He graduated from Douglass High School and attended Lamar College for a few years.
Bill was well known in the Quarter Horse and Paint horse industry, both in racing and show circles. He was a horse trainer, rancher and farmer. During his younger years he was a top rodeo competitor in Saddle Bronc riding. Bill loved to train both race and show horses.
He bred a number of champions, and owned and trained the first Supreme Champion American Paint Horse, Snip Bar.
He is survived by his companion Betty Reed of El Dorado and many friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Carlson Funeral Home to go toward the services.
Dang, got my hopes up! When the “other” Bill Maher dies, I plan to take a trip graveside and water the flowers, if I’m not being too subtile.

Not fair. I posted an obit a few years ago regarding the death of ice hockey star Theodore “Ted” Kennedy, including use of the correct headline, and the mods deleted it claiming I was just baiting for comments.
