After days of ignoring Republican pleas to abandon his U.S. Senate campaign in Missouri, Rep. Todd Akin today received an even more damning message: A new Rasmussen poll shows that Akin, who held a tidy lead before making his controversial comments about rape and pregnancy, is now down 10 percentage points (48-38 percent) to incumbent Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill.
Never fazed, the Akin campaign shot back with an unlikely proposal.
The fact that Claire McCaskill is only polling at 48 percent after 72 hours of constant negative attacks on Todd Akin shows just how weak she is, Akin spokesman Perry Akin said in a statement. If she cant break 50 percent after a week like this, Democrats should ask Claire to step down.
McCaskill, whose political career might well have been saved by Akins moment of madness, went online to cast doubt on the validity of the survey.
Rasmussen poll made me laugh out loud, she tweeted. If anyone believes that, I just turned 29. Sneaky stuff.
McCaskill then linked to a story from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel claiming Rasmussen, with its ties to high-powered Republican operatives like Karl Rove, had intentionally stretched the spread in an effort to push Akin out of the race.
The final deadline for Akin to withdraw is Sept. 25. After that his name cannot be replaced on the ballot. But there is no indication hes even considering it.
Today, he reported on his Facebook page, Thousands and thousands of people have stepped up today and helped us raise over $100,000 in donations as small as $3. The message is loud and clear
the people of Missouri believe they should pick candidates, not party bosses or Washington elites.

Excuse my language but this guy is a dick.
Ah Jeez.
So Mr. 38 Percent thinks someone 10 points ahead should leave the race immediately. Wow.
The worst part is seeing McCaskill being so snarky, she’s egging him on and the moron is buying it and going for everything she’s saying, she’ll keep this up until...oh..about September 25th and then drop the sonic boom on him.
He’ll be calling on McCaskill to concede on the evening of Nov 6th when McCaskill is up 58 to 41.
In my best Tony Soprano voice..WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR BALLS??
Where did we find this chooch?
“Excuse my language but this guy is a dick.”
Excuse my language, but you’re a dufus. Keep in mind this guy is a solid conservative who has served for a number of years. All you’re doing is repeating the outrage of the GOPe, from losers like Sean Vanity and HomoCon Coulter. I bet you don’t even care about the content of what he even said.
What a clueless pile he is.
Akin is hanging tough, controlling the message and has Claire running scared.
One thing positive that can be said: at least he is not your typical chickensh*t cowardly RINO! When has the last time one of those huffing and puffing big shot GOP Senators has asked the Kenyan impostor to resign?
Akin belongs in the Dem party, he is more nuts than the Cocoa Puffs bird. And I say this again, why did people vote for this guy, McCaskill was begging people to vote for him..did NO ONE see that as a HUGE warning sign that something wasn’t right
What a moron !
“What a clueless pile he is.”
All of you guys are clueless. You’re basically advocating the GOP lose this seat to a Democrat. You’re supporting Obama instead of defending a solid conservative. And why? Because the GOPe told you too like good puppies.
Well, sounds like the GOP was right to cut off all support and let him fail. In fact, it sounds even better than the idea of trying to coerce him too.
Either way, there is only so much idiocy and insensibility I can take from a professed conservative before saying enough, and Akin actually broke that limit. That being said, I hope this guy loses so that the GOP can send a clear message that they vet their morons.
who DO you work for?
When you get to the bottom of the bottle don’t accept the worm as a muse.
Akin has more balls than all of the GOPe combined. His own party has done an Alinsky on him and he is still hanging in there and fighting. The GOPe does not like Akin for some reason. Wonder who they got their marching order from?
Nothing personal, but many of the Freepers on these threads seem to be acting like a bunch of jerks. Of course Akin is down, after a 24-7 attack on him by every talking head, every media source, every Democrat politician, and ALMOST EVERY so-called conservative.
Yet he’s right. Claire McCaskill, the incumbent, still can’t put together a majority, even after all this.
So, are all the so-called “conservatives” going to do the baby-killing Democrats’ work for them, and keep on attacking Akin until the election?
We don’t need any left wing propaganda shills, evidently. Stupid Republicans are determined to jump on board the propaganda train the left wingers started, and drive it all the way back to the terminal for them. Free of charge, no questions asked.
Look I am only looking at the bigger picture here, he might be the most solid conservative on the planet, yet he is damaged goods in my opion.
One more thing had this happened a few years ago, I might have a different outlook on this, it is not about him anymore for me, it is about this county.
Would you like me to rephrase it in a much more PC form for you? Okay. Todd Akin is a bit what you might call...intellectually challenged.
What do you expect after being totally trashed by the GOPe and Sean Hannity, etc. But we’ll forgive dimwit Biden!
If the GOP would go after obama like they have Akin even Romney would have a chance against the worst President in our history!
Get ‘em. I believe this person is a troll and working for the McKatKiller campaign. I have seen the same behavior.
I see Akin as simply a naive guy who has been lucky to some degree in the past in local politics in the state. He’s not witty, charming, or that intelligent. When some unknown PAC came up during the primary and pushed an ad or two at the right time....he never asked who they were or where their money came from. For the amount they tossed into their ads....it didn’t take much to put him into the right position.
As for now? I think the naive of the guy, and those around him.....simply dictate that he continue on. He can’t win, but he’ll get the forty percent level which looks decent.
As for him dropping out and some Tea-Party campaign suddenly erupting? My guess is that if you had forty-five days....you just might be able to pull a write-in vote for some person that independents might drift to. If he waits this out to the last week....then it pretty much destroys the election anyway.
BS. If it was about the country, you would have held Mitt Romney to the same standard. And if you really think the GOPe is aiming to save this seat, you’re wrong. Defend the guy you got, don’t run another freaking candidate to divide the vote.
I think this putz has had a nervous breakdown
And the stupid goober Huckabee is behind him all the way. And now Sharron Angle’s loser campaign manager is also calling for Akin to stay in the race too. We are beset by idiots, as the Senate and perhaps the next Supreme Court hangs in the balance.
Todd Akin is a loon and fast becoming a laughingstock. He will be lucky to be polling in the low 30’s before election day. I listened to both of his interviews on Hannity and he comes across as Barney Fife. He may be a solid pro life supporter, but his position on abortion alone does not make him a viable candidate for the US Senate.
I just want to know why you chose to join FR last month.
Good post, thank you. Someone who gets it!
Like I said, a few years ago I would have a different outlook on this. Not today. Just me though.
You sound like a mouth piece for e-Claire.
I just want to get that Senate Seat, it was ours for the taking, but this guy actually thinks that going from up 11 to now down 10 is somehow a “good thing.” He’ll probably lose by 15 points in November, maybe more, but if a miracle does take place and he wins I will be very happy. I dont care if its Akin or someone else I just want to see McCaskill lose, can’t stand that woman, she is Obama’s #1 Dem for a reason
The thing McCaskill is really scared of is Akin actually dropping out of the race.
Actually you have me confused with Akin, she spent $2 million backing him and boy was it money well spent!!
Yeah, that stupid goober!
To: Jim Robinson; P-Marlowe; wagglebee; cripplecreek; cva66snipe; Elvina; Finny; greyfoxx39; Hilda; ...This truly is a moment highlighted in the famous quote: "Then they came for the Jews, and I didnt speak out because I wasnt a Jew. Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak out for me. "
Mike Huckabee has always been a principled social conservative, and he is precisely right about an orchestrated attack on a pro-life candidate. The following paragraph, though, is an indication that Huckabee has realized that social conservatives are no longer welcome in the GOP. It is an astounding thing for a major republican leader to write with such obvious bitterness. You MUST read it:
Who ordered this "Code Red" on Akin? There were talking point memos sent from the National Republican Senatorial Committee suggesting language to urge Akin to drop out. Political consultants were ordered to stay away from Akin or lose future business with GOP committees. Operatives were recruited to set up a network of pastors to call Akin to urge him to get out. Money has changed hands to push him off the plank. It is disgraceful. From the spotlights of political offices and media perches, it may appear that the demand for Akins head is universal in the party. I assure you it is not. There is a vast, but mostly quiet army of people who have an innate sense of fairness and don't like to see a fellow political pilgrim bullied. If Todd Akin loses the Senate seat, I will not blame Todd Akin. He made his mistake, but was man enough to admit it and apologize. I'm waiting for the apology from whoever the genius was on the high pedestals of our party who thought it wise to not only shoot our wounded, but run over him with tanks and trucks and then feed his body to the liberal wolves. It wasn't just Todd Akin that was treated with contempt by the thinly veiled attack on Todd Akin. It was all the people who have faithfully knocked doors, made calls, and made sacrificial contributions to elect Republicans because we thought we were welcome in the party. Todd Akin owned his mistake. Who will step up and admit the effort being made to discredit Akin and apologize for the sleazy way it's been handled?
The Akin Assault by the GOP is not just another indication that social conservatives are unwelcome in the Republican Party. It is an attack designed to destroy any voice they might have.
If we don't wake up, we will be having in America Christians tried for "hate speech" in very short order.
I hope that you don't mind that I lifted your post, xzins.
Maybe e-Claire thinks he will drop out of the race now that he has not much money to spend. She would like nothing better and the GOPe has been of no help. Do we all remember that the only thing Karl Rove cares about is that a voter and politican has an “R” next to their name.
For a relative newbie, you’re certainly posting a lot of attacks on Akin in every thread. As I’ve already said here a bit earlier, why should Freepers be helping the enemy attack our own guy? At least he’s solidly conservative and pro-life, unlike romney. And, contrary to the liberal spin, what he said was incautious, but not that far off. Far worse things are said by numerous politicians every day, and nothing said. I WONDER WHY THE LEFT FOCUSED ON THIS? AND WHY SO MANY RINOS ARE HELPING THEM DO IT?
I counted two whole pages of your recent posts in the forum, and every reply but one or two was an attack on Akin. I didn’t bother to check a third page, because I assume you’ve been doing this like mad ever since the story broke—as have a few others.
This. The only thing Claire is scared of is Akin dropping out. She hasn’t even had to campaign against the guy, he’s basically destroyed himself. When she actually does start campaigning, she’ll be sure to finish the job, the way she backed him financially through that advertising to the tune of $2 million, she’s got more dirt on him and is likely waiting until after the 25th to drop the boom.
What a bunch of jelly spined, weak willed, sniveling little cowards have posted in this thread.
No wonder the communist have advanced as far as they have.
Their opposition, for lack of a better term, are a bunch of little sissies.
Republicans are scared to death of their own shadow. They remind me of a bunch of cockroaches they go scurrying into the corner as fast as they can when someone shines a light on them.
I’m disgusted by the weakness of so called patriotic Americans.
Time to grow some nads, boys. This is not only war, it is a battle between Good and Evil, and Good is afraid that it’s going to break a nail on its sword.
Time to sack up or lose. Take your pick.
Not at all.....its entirely doable for him to get off the ballot, hardly difficult, and it would be well worthwhile, if he doesn’t step down, you can say hello to Senator Obama Claire for another 6 years. Akin has the independents and moderates scared shi#less and they will not vote for him now.
Since thats settled I look forward to seeing many more of PhxTM06’s posts between now & Nov supporting all of the other good conservative candidates running this season.
