Skip to comments.Todd Akin to Claire McCaskill: You Should Drop Out
Posted on 08/23/2012 2:38:25 PM PDT by Tailgunner Joe
After days of ignoring Republican pleas to abandon his U.S. Senate campaign in Missouri, Rep. Todd Akin today received an even more damning message: A new Rasmussen poll shows that Akin, who held a tidy lead before making his controversial comments about rape and pregnancy, is now down 10 percentage points (48-38 percent) to incumbent Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill.
Never fazed, the Akin campaign shot back with an unlikely proposal.
The fact that Claire McCaskill is only polling at 48 percent after 72 hours of constant negative attacks on Todd Akin shows just how weak she is, Akin spokesman Perry Akin said in a statement. If she cant break 50 percent after a week like this, Democrats should ask Claire to step down.
McCaskill, whose political career might well have been saved by Akins moment of madness, went online to cast doubt on the validity of the survey.
Rasmussen poll made me laugh out loud, she tweeted. If anyone believes that, I just turned 29. Sneaky stuff.
McCaskill then linked to a story from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel claiming Rasmussen, with its ties to high-powered Republican operatives like Karl Rove, had intentionally stretched the spread in an effort to push Akin out of the race.
The final deadline for Akin to withdraw is Sept. 25. After that his name cannot be replaced on the ballot. But there is no indication hes even considering it.
Today, he reported on his Facebook page, Thousands and thousands of people have stepped up today and helped us raise over $100,000 in donations as small as $3. The message is loud and clear
the people of Missouri believe they should pick candidates, not party bosses or Washington elites.

Sorry, no sale your Trollness.
You said that you havent heard of Akin until last week but you are posting like you know the politics of Missouri. What is up with you? Did you just crawl out of DU or are you working for e-Claire?
Spoken like a long-time Freeper. What were your previous screen names?
The reason why people vote for this guy is that there is nothing else to vote for. I hear R's repeated whine about there being no qualified people to vote for. Is it any wonder?
Why would a more qualified person run when he/she knows that the minute the wrong thing is said his/her supporters run for the tall brush?
As long a so-called conservatives continue to run from their candidates at the first sign of true combat, you will not have anyone but lesser candidates who want on the gravy-train run.
Is it any wonder, then, that the people in Congress, for the most part, are of such low quality.
Sorry, I’m not going to let a troll NOob lead me around by the nose any more than I take my queue from the democrat media.
He will lose when conservatives stop backing him.
At this time, he remains on the ballot. As a conservative attorney, why don’t you support him?
I like him because he has chutzpah. Something most R leaders are sorely lacking. They are like Rodney King, can’t we all get along, when he did he was on the same drugs that caused the riot and the leaders are still drunk on their own power..so they just want to go along to get along.
he is a dick. he is a moron who believes in the magic uterus and has offended most of the country.
You are a LIAR.
Akin is Huckabee’s boy. Huckabee is still pumping for him and telling Akin that he can win the election, and it is time to teach the Republican “Establishment” a lesson.
he is a moron whose appeal is limited to conservative trailer trash
Rush Limbaugh? Sarah Palin? Allen West?
I give up. You tell me.
Thanks should go to xzins for putting together an outstanding post and not least to Mr. Huckabee for taking it to the GOPe without quarter. I appreciate your reply though.
Some of FR's enthusiastic Akin supporters rally behind their candidate as he prepares to do battle...
