Yes, if Romney had indicated that women were routinely using rape as a means of acquiring an abortion, then yes, he would have to step aside.

He didn't say anything like that, but his critics seem to never stop coming up with new bizarre words to put in his mouth.

However, since you brought it up, it is true that in locations where abortion is only legal in cases of rape, women will lie about being raped in order to get an abortion. When the law is changed to require an actual police report as evidence, the rate of abortion goes down. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that that will happen, just common sense.

“And a Poll yesterday came out showing Akin down 10. Believing this guy will win is denial. Genie can’t go back in the bottle.”

Some here would rather argue philosophy and cut off their noses to spite their faces, then admit to the political realities.

Here’s reality: Akin says he’s staying in the race.

That’s it. He won the primary. He’s staying.

Now, will you support the nominee or not? You’re not getting another one.

“it is true that in locations where abortion is only legal in cases of rape, women will lie about being raped in order to get an abortion.”

I’m not going to argue against that, but the fact is Akin did make that argument, when he didn’t have to. The question didn’t force him to delve into his deep personal beliefs about legitimate rape.
It was a self inflicted wound, and not the first one he has made nor would it be the last. Check out his student loan program “Stage 3 cancer”

Not that he may not be right, but not smart politically.

Yes I will vote for him, he’s my representative. Don’t be so sure that he won’t step down, lack of money can be a sobering reality.

What you see as "political realities" I see as "conjectured possibilities".
Just my opinion.

Unless you've also suddenly gained the powers of divination and prognostication like so many others seem to have recently. Have you done so?

Most of us, including Akin, agree that his comments about rape were unwise and should never have been said. We simply believe that the normal tactics implemented when a politician makes a gaffe should be allowed to happen in his case. His apology should be accepted and he should be allowed to continue his campaign with full support. Unless someone commits a crime, engages in a serious moral failing like adultery, or diverges from the party’s platform in a major way, the party should not abandon them or kick them when they’re down.

I know, I am pissing in the wind at some folks here, and in my younger days I probably would have been one of those purity uber alis, but I’ve learned purity uber alis equals no seat at the table.

Reality is, no one other than political junkies knew who Akin was a few weeks ago, now folks around the world know him as the Rape candidate.. he’s done. The verbal Gaffe of “legitimate rape” probably could have been overcome, even though it evokes a eviceral reaction, but the follow up after that, that a womans body will stop it from getting pregnat if raped, is so insanely ignorant that the guy truly has no business being anywhere near a law making body.

Now you can’t look at the news and see this fools name, he’s a distraction, and he’s hurting the overall cause. The fact he’s sticking around just proves how utterly ignorant and politically tin eared this guy is. He is proof that politicians are by and large a stupid bunch of people.. no one with more than a brain cell or two working would remotely think they can overcome what he’s done.

He could disappear and return in a few years to fight again and maybe do something, but this election cycle, he’s a millstone that will cost his party close races. Idiot.

Bitching and moaning its not fair that he’s being treated one way, and a pedophile homosexual democrat isn’t or whatever doesn’t change anything, its a legitimate gripe, but it DOESN’T CHANGE ANYTHING. We all know the news is biased to the left, which is why, idiots like this guy should never be put up by Republicans.. one idiot like this puts a millstone around every other republican running.

I’ve tried to read through this thread and I would suggest to stop digging.

According to my husband, DrO, the number of OB-GYN doctors performing abortions has greatly reduced andlate term abortions (infantacide) is not taight in any medical school that he’s aware) because it’s NOT a medical procedure.

“Life of the mother” is usually a cop out by Planned Parenthood and other murderous organizations and unholy professionals, because Caesarian Sections save both the woman and the baby.

So yes, abortion is murder of the totally innocent. OB-GYN doctors are coming around to realize this through medical technology wherein they can see the baby in much earlier stages than ever before.

Our country has many would be loving parents willing and ready to adopt. There’s no Godly reason to continue with this unconsionable abortion on demand.

It’ the worst type of BIRTH CONTROL imaginable.

“Most of us, including Akin, agree that his comments about rape were unwise and should never have been said”

I don’t really care about that anymore, I just want McCaskill gone and I don’t think Akin can do it.

I want the state GOP to announce now who they want to replace Akin with, then let check this person out and see if they are a better candidate than Akin.

We need to see what we are buying first before we throw away what we have already bought.

Akin didn’t make a GAFFE, he showed he’s fundamentally ignorant of basic biology!

Using the term “legitimate rape” is a Gaffe.

Suggesting women don’t get pregnant if raped is showing you are completely ignorant of the most basic understanding of your own species reproductive systems.

Akin is a distraction, a lost cause, and going to not only lose this Senate seat now, but will cause other close races for his part to be lost. This guy is now a black sheep, and a political nobody.. He’s effectively ended any chance of EVER having a future in politics again. Had he stepped aside, laid low, next cycle or two could have come back, but this cycle, hes a dead man walking, and he’s basically a walking friendly fire incident.

“one idiot like this puts a millstone around every other republican running.”

He is the poster boy now for every pro abortion group out there.
He is the “Mark Foley” for all who want to categorize Reps as neanderthal in their view of women.
He is the laughing stock for all left wing political comedians.

He is generating a large amount of spill over into other campaigns.

It just goes on and on.

Sorry when you show you don’t understand the most basic reproductive functions of your own species, you are an idiot, and no, the party shouldn’t be wasting money or time trying to help a lost cause win.

This guy has ZERO chance of winning now, he won’t see 40% of the vote if he continues, regardless of what the RNC does or doesn’t do to him. THe more the RNC is tied to this fool, the worse it is for all Republicans.

This idiot just took a sure win and lost it, not only that, his actions are going to cost other republicans in close races as well.

What he did was basically equivalent to declaring the moon is made of green cheese.

If he had just used the term “legitimate rape”, that would be a Gaffe, and he probably could overcome it.. but what he said after that, showed he an ignorant fool who doesn’t know jack about basic reproduction and should not be anywhere near any lawmaking body.

His decision to stick around just further shows how utterly ignorant this guy is. He’s a dead man walking, RNC shouldn’t waste 1 iota of money or support on him. There is no reason to burn money for a fools ego.

How so? Your statement isn't true simply because you make it instead of substantiating it.

I watched the video last night of the lady entering planned parenthood with a request for an abortion for sex-selection purposes. They were just fine with it.

And somehow in all this, Rep Akin is the criminal for using the word “legitimate”.

I’ve doubled down on that word.

The Duke LaCross rape report was not legitimate.
Statutory rape charges between a teen and a slightly older partner are not legitimate.

as a rule the MO polls ..all 12 or so of them have showed a fairly tight race

a few with Obama up a little...3 I think

and some with Romney up higher than that

now Rass has one with Obama up...his first

if that is true then yes it does show that Akins remarks have for the moment tightened up the race more ...no question

but I would point out that the GOP and FOX have been the ones beating Akin the loudest...I watched CBS and ABC the other night to see on nightly news and nothing yet FOX has literally made it story number one since it broke last Friday or Saturday(?)

I would point out that back in primary time when Newt was surging after South Carolina there was a meeting allegedly with Ailes and Romney folks and Rassmussen...and we know where it all went from there...Matt Drudge was linked in as well by one of Mitt's gay aides

this is where we get with folks like this

it's simply not to me as cut and dried as it is to the angry crowd here

what is evident is just how little culture war matters in the GOP anymore

this is the real battle ...tea party...culture folks versus GOP leaders and most big talkie radio or pundits who truly are all as a group less socially conservative than their listeners and constituents

I will stand with Akin. I do not disagree much with what he said but I think he said it poorly.

How the GOP and Fox and talk radio has overreacted has done the Democrats job for them

so fire away all..I am rarely on the majority side here anyhow and things here do drift let me tell ya

pariah one day...lord and master the next

What the hell are you talking about..

This idiot said “womens bodies have a way of shutting it down” meaning a raped woman doesn’t get pregnant! There are tons of raped women throughout history who have born children from their attacks!

Rape has been used by invaders and militaries throughout human history to subjugate and demoralize a foe, not only from the act itself but because of the offspring it produces!

Akin’s a fool and you are a bigger fool than him if you think women who are raped don’t get pregnant! My God, I know the public school systems are failing, but are they really this completely moronic?
