School in session despite power outage
Tri-City Herald ^ | August 28, 2012 | RICHARD DICKIN

Students in Michelle Wheland's class at Badger Mountain Elementary in Richland, work Tuesday using lanterns and flashlights. Students found the power out when they got to school but teachers and staff made the best of it.

Some classes met in hallways to read and do projects while others used whatever source of light they could find.

Must have been a very local problem. There are a bunch of dams in the area and a nuke plant about 10 miles away. No shortage of amps.

Lemme guess, this is one of those schools without those outdated big squares of glass that lets in light and opens to let in fresh air.

"others used whatever source of light they could find"

They were desperate. Whatever source.. didn't matter. Pathetic that they had to -find- light. Pathetic and lucky. Where did they look? Behind the sofa? In a robin's nest? And who hid it?

I live in the area and no problem elsewhere.

I bet the kids found it an enjoyable experience.

The only thing about this article that comes close to giving any consideration to placing it in BREAKING NEWS is the name of the Tri-City Herald author.

Three+days now of n0n stop coverage of a fairly typical summer storm. Breaking news; all media nets for three days.

How think you Hole?

Lets have something breaking that shows initiative of teachers, administration & the kids in the local schools @ gulag Washington St.

Prob with that?

Thanks for the picture. Yeppers, I was right. Pitch dark without windows. Can you imagine if there was a real emergency? It would be mass chaos trying to find the kids and get them all out of the building. It’s not like they could go through windows if the doors are block. Ridiculous and dangerous.
