Romney: 'My Country Deserves Better!' (Acceptance speech excerpts)
Weekly Standard ^

Posted on 08/30/2012 5:06:27 PM PDT by GOPinCa

Here are excerpts of the remarks Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney plans to deliver this evening in Tampa, Florida:

Four years ago, I know that many Americans felt a fresh excitement about the possibilities of a new president. That president was not the choice of our party but Americans always come together after elections. We are a good and generous people who are united by so much more than divides us.

When that hard fought election was over, when the yard signs came down and the television commercials finally came off the air, Americans were eager to go back to work, to live our lives the way Americans always have – optimistic and positive and confident in the future.

That very optimism is uniquely American.

It is what brought us to America. We are a nation of immigrants. We are the children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren of the ones who wanted a better life, the driven ones, the ones who woke up at night hearing that voice telling them that life in that place called America could be better.

They came not just in pursuit of the riches of this world but for the richness of this life.

***

Every family in America wanted this to be a time when they could get ahead a little more, put aside a little more for college, do more for their elderly mom who’s living alone now or give a little more to their church or charity.

I can feel the smoke going up my a$$. Even Mitt must know that this is positively untrue. The serious division between the parties on moral, ethical and socioeconomic opinions is probably the biggest single threat to the US political system going.

None of those other choices have a prayer of becoming President. In Michigan a vote for one of them is the same as a vote for Obama. Sorry to hear you support the marxist who is trying to destroy this country.

put that in your pan and fry it

I might have voted for Romney if he had included Sarah Palin as a speaker. But the mitts are off between conservatives and Mitts;

Sarah Palin is supporting Romney & Ryan, and she would tell you to put your personal feelings aside and do likewise instead of hiding behind some childish notion of 'civil disobedience'.

he can crawl off into a corner and off himself for all I care.

Just like a hate mongering liberal, wishing death upon those you don't agree with. Sarah Palin would be ashamed of you.

I think clearly it came down to Ryan, Rubio, and Christie. Mitt was brilliant in his decision, and the way he handled these young men. To Rubio who was passed over, he talked to and gave the introduction speech. I have a feeling Romney has done this before with young men. Gets them to walk through walls for him. There could only be one VP choice, but make the best of the guys you’ll need in the future. I think the speech I saw last night was the best political speech I’ve ever witnessed.

How do you have all this supposed arcane knowledge of what the LDS church leaders have been up to, especially vis a vis Mitt Romney? Are you a current or former Mormon, an LDS historian, an investigative journalist or what? You act like you have tons of insider information or as if you actually know all these people that you constantly reference. Why don’t you throw out a bunch of links from credible sources for us to go over or cease your fanatical jihad on all things Mormon? You’re getting to be the David Icke of this site.

I think you owe David Icke an apology, lol

Deserves = Entitled to (to my ear. It was a clunker.

Still, Romney does not make me as angry as McCain did. That’s about all I want to say about that.

“I have a feeling Romney has done this before with young men. Gets them to walk through walls for him.”

Sounds like leadership, something we are in dire need of.

“You miss the relevance of the racism to Mitt Romney’s own life, and his draft dodging in France.”

In actual fact he legally obtained deferments, after which he was enrolled in the lottery, but did not get drafted due to high number.

Exactly right. However that fact is of no interest to the hate mongering little troll to which you are dealing with.

Readers need to understand how your posts distort the truth.

Distortion, lies and half-truths are Ansel12's stock in trade, all the while posing as some sort of superior moral authority.

Did some research myself, and learned sources for your distortions of truth, namely Ron Paul, Huffington Post, various anti-mormon sites and blogs, world nut daily, etc.

Now don't be too hard on Ansel12, those sites are probably what provides them daily arousal and gratification, despite the fact that what they peddle in this matter has little to do with the truth.

Either Romney or Obama will be the next president. You do no good, using distorted smears of the only candidate that can save America from four more years of Obama.

Ansel12 doesn't care. That selfish little turd would prefer to watch America go up in flames just for the pleasure of screaming "you should have listened to meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!"

Meanwhile, we've got a battle to fight between now and November 6th, and if anyone isn't up for that, they need to STFU and get the Hell out of the way.

You don’t bring people together by focusing on the negatives. Focus on what people have in common.

Sure does feel that way. Truly disappointing to see this reaction on what has been my favorite web site for more than a decade. Trashing the man who is trying to rid us of Obama on the night of his nomination. Quite sad.

No I joined a while ago, I just have lost faith in the process. Hopefully I will be wrong and Mitt will be a great conservative leader. I just have this fear that he is going to blow it.

I was really hoping to hear a detailed plan from Mitt, instead, he spent his speech telling us the obvious

Disappointing at best

Can’t take a little Civil Disobedience , eh? Well get prepared for a lot more of it. Its just beginning.Sarah Palin does not speak for me nor does she control me and millions of others that she abandoned, she had a chance to represent us and turned it down. Now we are on our own and will do just as we please.

The RINOs and the GOP can take a long walk of the short pier.A new party is needed and it will come. The GOP convention is a fiasco of people taking the stage and bursting forth conservative platitudes while making sure behind the scenes that State Conservative blocks and candidates are cast aside or out of the party. What a laugh!

If I didn’t know any better, I would think that Clint Eastwood was running for President. Nobody is talking Romney’s speech. It is all about Clint. I remember in 2008 they had Chuck Norris speak and he was for McCain but that didn’t help at all. I think it should be no hollywood actors at all making speeches because regardless of whether they want it to be, it always becomes about them. Everyone should be talking Romney today and they are NOT and that is NOT good.

America is dying because of the people’s lack of character. Electing Romney will do nothing to change that. He will just be a more competent protector of the welfare state, which is about the only thing that makes the GOPe different from the Ds.

It is the welfare state and social liberalism that is killing America. Romney won’t do more than tinker with the welfare state, and he is so socially liberal that he wants to “sodomize” the Boy Scouts.

I suspect that about 50% of FR would not really support Constitutional government. They are too addicted to their particular forms of welfare, and they lack the moral courage to face down the race and, especially, the gender hustlers.

I can take anything your Code Pink inspired lunacy can come up with. You lost any legitimacy up thread when you started yammering about Romney "offing himself", that's a left-liberal behavior symptom if there ever was one.

Its just beginning. Sarah Palin does not speak for me nor does she control me and millions of others that she abandoned, she had a chance to represent us and turned it down. Now we are on our own and will do just as we please.

Who is this 'we' you speak of, you got a mouse in your pocket?

The RINOs and the GOP can take a long walk of the short pier. A new party is needed and it will come. The GOP convention is a fiasco of people taking the stage and bursting forth conservative platitudes while making sure behind the scenes that State Conservative blocks and candidates are cast aside or out of the party. What a laugh!

"A new party is needed"

You will need to at least rise to the level of the American Independent Party in 1968, when their presidential ticket of George Wallace and Curtis LeMay carried 5 southern states and won 46 electoral votes. And you're not going to even come close to that between now and November 6th. So your efforts will benefit only one candidate this year, and that is 0bama.

"What a laugh!"

You won't be laughing as 0bama begins his second term unleashed, unchained and hell bent on finishing the job of destroying our Nation.

And won't you be proud for playing your part in that.
