Romney: 'My Country Deserves Better!' (Acceptance speech excerpts)
Weekly Standard ^

Posted on 08/30/2012 5:06:27 PM PDT by GOPinCa

Here are excerpts of the remarks Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney plans to deliver this evening in Tampa, Florida:

Four years ago, I know that many Americans felt a fresh excitement about the possibilities of a new president. That president was not the choice of our party but Americans always come together after elections. We are a good and generous people who are united by so much more than divides us.

When that hard fought election was over, when the yard signs came down and the television commercials finally came off the air, Americans were eager to go back to work, to live our lives the way Americans always have – optimistic and positive and confident in the future.

That very optimism is uniquely American.

It is what brought us to America. We are a nation of immigrants. We are the children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren of the ones who wanted a better life, the driven ones, the ones who woke up at night hearing that voice telling them that life in that place called America could be better.

They came not just in pursuit of the riches of this world but for the richness of this life.

***

Every family in America wanted this to be a time when they could get ahead a little more, put aside a little more for college, do more for their elderly mom who’s living alone now or give a little more to their church or charity.

Jimmy Carter was a Baptist! I’m not sure Obama is Christian! I would rather have Mitt as President than Zero!

The only thing Obama’s camp has had to say is “there’s no big deal.” This is hardly damning. No, Mr. President, the idea is very simple: leadership.

Mitt has excommunicated Mormons that did not meet up to the standards of his faith and religion.

So? The Catholics excommunicate people all the time!

There will be more candidates on the ballot than Obama and Romney. Some conservatives will be listed.

Thanks a lot Newt for throwing the blocks that gave Romney the nomination. I knew Romney would blow it.

Senator Sanctimonious was Romney's stalking horse through the primary season.

Romney's speech was a masterclass in the politics of how he can win this election.

Join us in defeating Obama or get out of the way.

They have no answer. They are Pontius Pilate voters.

Rather than stand and be counted with the ones who can stop Obama in November, they wash their hands under a rubric of piety.

They're cowards. They're collaborators. They're useful idiots.

Yawn?

Translation: Romney isn’t pure enough conservative so I’m ok with Obama winning again. I’d rather have a 100% liberal marxist in office than pull the lever for a 70% conservative because I stand on principle.

Good Lord...but that’s how you sound.

You miss the relevance of the racism to Mitt Romney’s own life, and his draft dodging in France.

A black Mormon could not get a draft exemption from his church like the white Romney could, and did.

Black mormons waved goodbye to white mormons like Mitt, as the were drafted, and sent to war.

By the way, Star Wars, and Animal House, are not exactly ancient history to most Americans, blacks were still oppressed by mormonism while we were at the movies cheering Luke Skywalker.

You guys are pulling the race card now.

LOL, more liberal than Romney.

The race card? This is participatory racism on Mitt’s part, as a 31 year old man, and a teacher and missionary of that racism, and as a direct, war time beneficiary of that racism.

Bishop Mitt Romney is a powerful figure within Mormonism, as was his Bishop father, and his entire family since they came to America to personally serve Joseph Smith and help get the religion started.

When Mitt’s efforts to evade the draft come up, then the fact that it was a race dependent deferment could come up, don’t you think?

The fact that Mitt has tried to claim that he and his father both marched with Martin Luther King, is going to come up as well.

“You miss the relevance of the racism to Mitt Romney’s own life, and his draft dodging in France.”

In actual fact he legally obtained deferments, after which he was enrolled in the lottery, but did not get drafted due to high number.

Readers need to understand how your posts distort the truth.

Did some research myself, and learned sources for your distortions of truth, namely Ron Paul, Huffington Post, various anti-mormon sites and blogs, world nut daily, etc.

Either Romney or Obama will be the next president.

You do no good, using distorted smears of the only candidate that can save America from four more years of Obama.

You didn’t do, or say anything, how silly to say the deferments were legal, like any one thought differently.

The Mormon church decided their own deferments, and handed them out only to non-blacks.

As a white Mormon, Mitt Romney was given a draft deferment by his church (they were in charge of their own deferments, and would submit them to the draft board), a draft deferment forbidden to black Mormons, no black Mormon could receive a draft exemption from Romney’s religion.

Black Mormons were not allowed Mormon draft deferments, they went to war.

All this while Bishop George Romney was running for president as the anti-war republican.

How do you have all this supposed arcane knowledge of what the LDS church leaders have been up to, especially vis a vis Mitt Romney? Are you a current or former Mormon, an LDS historian, an investigative journalist or what? You act like you have tons of insider information or as if you actually know all these people that you constantly reference. Why don’t you throw out a bunch of links from credible sources for us to go over or cease your fanatical jihad on all things Mormon? You’re getting to be the David Icke of this site.

Exercising civil disobedience is not supporting Obama as you say.

And civil disobedience is exactly what RINO Romney and the RINO GOP deserve.

These RINOS spout conservative platitudes from their pizmo convention stage, just having outed the very conservatives they say the represent? What a laugh.

I might have voted for Romney if he had included Sarah Palin
as a speaker. But the mitts are off between conservatives and Mitts; he can crawl off into a corner and off himself for all I care.

Obama thanks the entire present GOP idjit RINOS for their support, including you.

Why not just ask, you don’t need to constantly make personal attacks.

You didn’t even have a specific request, you merely launched into a personal attack.
