With Chick-fil-A fights breaking out on campuses across the country, including several in North Texas, company CEO Dan Cathy reportedly met with college leaders to discuss LGBT issues in Atlanta on Thursday.
It was Cathy whose anti-gay comments earlier this summer sparked the protest.
The details of Thursdays meeting were brief and given by an unnamed source, but centered around diversity, hospitality, and the opportunity to find common ground, according to the source.
Cathy is trying to repair relationships with colleges in an effort to further expansion plans for more on-campus locations across the country, many at large schools.
The University of North Texas was the first of five area colleges to start a petition calling for the university to remove the restaurant from its student union. UTA later followed and members of UTAs GSA are preparing to present the petition and a resolution to school officials.
SMU officials have already said they would not remove the restaurant from its campus. Kim Schroder, UNTs associate director of retail dining services, told its student newspaper that the on-campus location wasnt going anywhere soon.
Schroder said the petitions from a UNT student and a separate one created by an alumnus have not affected business, and the universitys five-year contract with the company would make removing it soon impossible.
“anti-gay”? He never said anything derogatory about gays. All he said he believed in traditional marriage.
nothing he can say will appease them. hope he wears a vest.
Can't really whip up outrage if they quote his actual words, so they characterize them instead. A statement expressing preference for heterosexual marraige becomes 'anti-gay'.
Lying sacks of dung, all of em.
I know. I wish he wasn’t even giving in to a meeting: Concessions with LGBT advocates always backfire: Before you know it, they will be saying he’s come out for gay marriage - even though he’s said no such thing. I don’t like that he had a “diversity meeting”. It rankles.
Who, exactly, are “college leaders”? It’d be nice to know whether he’s talking to kids or adults—not that there’s much difference in academe.
You ought to see the lies some gay advocates are making of this meeting. One gay site is claiming “after the summer’s PR disaster, Cathy may be trying to change his ways”-—unbelievable fabrication. I don’t think he should have gone to any “diversity” meeting, bad move.
Yeah, I get the feeling they’re being vague so they can pump up the story. and no, there’s not much difference these days...
Who believes the LGTB fanatics are open minded in any sense of the phrase?
I agree there is no upside for Mr Cathy
"We have several kinds of chicken, and plenty of places to sit. Make yourselves at home".
And, when you're ready, I'll pray with you.
I really don't care what people do with their own genitalia, but it is pure silliness to respond to or appear with radicals of any stripe.
Not sure this is a good idea. Whatever he says or does will be twisted by the homogoons.
i agree fully.
I agree- and already they are twisting things on some gay sites, saying Cathy is trying to do damage control after a PR disaster and trying to mend his ways. Pretty bad: even though its all lies it will make headlines.
Let’s hope he doesn’t concede any more than that.
I hink CFA and the Cathy family need to focus more on keeping their non-university facilities going....instead of pandering to the homosexual community.
As many have already commented....there is never a 50-50 with the homosexual community...and they will attack you no matter what is conceded
Yes - in fact, once you make concessions to them, they will begin to up the ante , just as they have done with the general culture. They are about as arrogant an obnoxious and power-hungry a group that has ever existed in human history.
What do they want a gay chicken sandwich?
No, I think its worse: They want him to appear to be wrong.
Cathy should confront these hypocrites and put it out in front what is actually happening. In fact they don't want to celebrate diversity. They want every Christian organization to submit to accepting homosexuals into their organizations. They can't reproduce homosexuals! They need to recruit them! To recruit them they need these Christian organizations silenced through any means possible. Their agenda is to do it through the laws of the land.
Queers: "We are the 2-3%."
Are they really worth the effort? I can guarantee you the queers' attitude is not going to change. Will yours? I hope not.
These people are foul
“These people are foul”
Fowl? Hee, hee!
Exactly right.
If Cathy caves, I fear that his big, new, following will cave, too.
Sometimes when some one, or group is pushing hard, best thing to do is to move aside and let them fall on their face.
I would just shut the campus locations Dow, help the franchisees relocate off campus, and let the “students” survive on lunchroom food.
I agree with you. Let the campus ones go, focus on different locations. And don’t make concessions. This is how gay marriage became so accepted: Too many people in the forefront made concessions.
Ha, fouls going after the fowl.
You are 100% correct.
I don’t think he’s going to concede anything. The Left-wing media has continuously misrepresented his original statement from the get-go. The meeting is probably just to clarify what his position is.
I’m sure many of these dolts truly believe that Cathy doesn’t want to serve “gays and lesbians” when nothing cold be further from the truth.
This is a LIE and I'm so sick of seeing it repeated ad nauseum.
Cathy made NO "anti-gay" comments whatsoever. And he didn't spark any protest -- his words in support of marriage were taken out of context as a convenient way for the queer agenda-pushers, esp. the ones in the State Run Media, to smear conservatism and capitalism. The only "controversy" was the one they INVENTED.
He’ll say “I make chicken. Do you like chicken?” And then maybe hand over some chicken scratch, if you know what I mean.
I’m with you. If Cathy concedes, before you know it the LGBTs will be suggesting that Chick-Fil-A sign up for diversity training programs for all employees.
And after the success of Aug 1 Chick-Fil-A appreciation day, do we now want to go to CFA to celebrate diversity? Does it behoove a traditional Christian man to celebrate diversity?
“Im sure many of these dolts truly believe that Cathy doesnt want to serve gays and lesbians when nothing cold be further from the truth.”
Yes but knowing these lgbt dolts as I do, it doesn’t matter that Cathy and CFA are perfectly happy to serve them good food at good prices. What bothers them is that he is not celebrating and embracing their full equality in marriage. For them, that equals hate and makes them feel unwanted and icky. They are so arrogant and sick it boggles the mind.
There is nothing “gay” about homosexuals. They all are bitter and filled with hate. “Gay” my @$$.
By that the writer means Dan Cathy's chance to repent and embrace their deviant lifestyle. They do not want common ground. Like all leftists, they want total dominance and the ability to control others.
Par for the course. Gays have recently been caught in a number of anti-gay assault and vandalism fabrications. There is no issue, so they create one. Dan Cathy should stay the hell away from them, because this meeting will only become twisted to their aims.
Agreed.
I agree with you; these “meetings” are often a precursor to caving, or at least watering down one’s initial views. He should have said, politely but firmly, that there was nothing to discuss, since his opinion is already known.
I think Mr. Cathy is pretty fearless. You can’t hide from these people so you might as well meet them and state your position and reasons behind them. He doesn’t have to pander to them and he knows it, given the record sales CFA has been having.
Bad move by Cathy, methinks.
Count me in with the “bad move by Cathy” crowd. He should know by now that those who reject God’s Word have no moral incentive to deal honestly with those who accept it.
“opportunity to find common ground”
How about the freedom to have his own personal opinion?
In addition, ten percent of profits will be donated to a "charity" that you don't want to know about and Mr. Cathy will write a 5000 word essay on the historic social contributions of the Village People.
Meanwhile, the guy who spray painted "tastes like hate" on a So Cal Chik-fil-A will not be charged...
ha, you are a comedic genius .....that is what they would like for sure...
I’m going to guess that CFA will be told their problems will go away if they make large donations to Obama and various LGBT groups.
Right the thing I liked about the Aug 1 CFA Appreciation day was the drawing of a bold line between “us” and “them” - common ground just means giving in to all their dorky agenda items.
and in addition, if they also promise (as the gay lawsuit against Chick fil A in Illinois stated) to have mandatory diversity training.
If he goes, they will claim he said things he never said.
It’s a trap.
they seem not to have an answer for that...
