Obama: Limited Gov't That Preserves Free Markets 'Doesn't Work. It Has Never Worked'
CNS News ^ | December 7, 2011 | Terence P. Jeffrey

Posted on 09/03/2012 7:16:24 AM PDT by Son House

In a speech delivered at Osawatomie High School in Osawatomie, Kansas, on Tuesday, President Barack Obama argued that while a limited government that preserves free markets "speaks to our rugged individualism" as Americans, such a system "doesn't work" and "has never worked" and that Americans must look to a more activist government that taxes more, spends more and regulates more if they want to preserve the middle class.

"'[T]here is a certain crowd in Washington who, for the last few decades, have said, let’s respond to this economic challenge with the same old tune. 'The market will take care of everything,' they tell us," said Obama. "If we just cut more regulations and cut more taxes--especially for the wealthy--our economy will grow stronger.

"Sure, they say, there will be winners and losers," Obama continued. "But if the winners do really well, then jobs and prosperity will eventually trickle down to everybody else. And, they argue, even if prosperity doesn’t trickle down, well, that’s the price of liberty.

"Now, it’s a simple theory," said Obama. "And we have to admit, it’s one that speaks to our rugged individualism and our healthy skepticism of too much government. That’s in America’s DNA. And that theory fits well on a bumper sticker. But here’s the problem: It doesn’t work. It has never worked.

"It didn’t work when it was tried in the decade before the Great Depression," said Obama. "It’s not what led to the incredible postwar booms of the ‘50s and ‘60s. And it didn’t work when we tried it during the last decade. I mean, understand, it’s not as if we haven’t tried this theory.

"Remember in those years, in 2001 and 2003, Congress passed two of the most expensive tax cuts for the wealthy in history," said Obama. "And what did it get us? The slowest job growth in half a century. Massive deficits that have made it much harder to pay for the investments that built this country and provided the basic security that helped millions of Americans reach and stay in the middle class==things like education and infrastructure, science and technology, Medicare and Social Security.

"Remember that in those same years, thanks to some of the same folks who are now running Congress, we had weak regulation, we had little oversight, and what did it get us?" said Obama. "Insurance companies that jacked up people’s premiums with impunity and denied care to patients who were sick, mortgage lenders that tricked families into buying homes they couldn’t afford, a financial sector where irresponsibility and lack of basic oversight nearly destroyed our entire economy.

"We simply cannot return to this brand of 'you’re on your own' economics if we’re serious about rebuilding the middle class in this country," said Obama.

So simple, even a leftist politician could understand it, this video ought to be required educational material every year starting at age 5:

The Collapse of The American Dream Explained in Animation

My eight year-old understands it.

. . . But centrally planned economies work marvelously. Just ask what’s left of the soviet union.

there is a very real chance that we are about to send an avowed Marxist back to the White House for a second term. Our country is completely gone.

It may not be quite gone yet, but it's getting chillingly close.

This is definately not your father's America. A generation ago, this Marxist SOB would be lucky to sniff 20% of the vote.

The GOP should use this as their campaign ad. Just use Obama’s own words.

I just read “Guns, Germs and Steel” which has a biological view of how a hunter-gatherer economy can yield to a farmer economy, and eventually to a manufactured goods economy, and governments suitable to each. There is a tendency for government to turn into kleptocracy, as all increases in productivity are claimed by the government. That is what wee are seeing in Obama. He wants all increases in efficiency to be funneled through him so he gets his cut.

If such increases in productivity are not restricted by government, people live better, and need less government. Obama and his minions live in reduced circumstances, such as minor but annoying members of of homeowner’s associations.

Incredible statements by Zero. This is some good material for GOP campaign adds. Zero seems to be completely ignoring the huge, almost uninterrupted economic expansion starting in 1981 and running all the way to 2001 that was fueled by the Reagan tax cuts and policies of limited government by Reagan, Bush 41, and to a lesser extend by Clinton. Clinton’s tax increases slowed the economy during his first term, but we were pulled out of that sluggish economy by one big factor: the initial build-out of the commercial internet starting in 1995. Without the internet boom we would have had another four years of sluggish economic growth in Clinton’s second term.

This speech by Obama is filled with false and amazingly foolish statements by King Barry. The Romney/Ryan team should get some video or at least the text of this speech and start going through it to find statements that can easily be proven to be false by our economic history. There is some great material in this speech for Romney attack ads.

Until the federal government forcing banks to lend to un-creditworthy individuals caused huge bundles of mortgages to become unmarketable, causing a massive implosion of the capital markets and the puncturing inflated real estate values, it worked just fine. Sabotaging the free markets with such hocus pocus gimmicks is what didn’t work, and the Dems fought for that gimickery tooth and nail, and they still want more of the same. Destroying wealth is not redistribution of wealth, merely destruction.

“He is saying that government creates wealth and it redistributes it. He says you have to have both. Fascinating. I recommend it. Great story too.”
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Okay, I’m mystified as to why you say we may be missing the brilliance of Hugo who says that government CREATES WEALTH AND IT REDISTRIBUTES IT AND YOU HAVE TO HAVE BOTH. What the Hey? Just what brilliance are you referring to?

Maybe he really is looking forward to moving to Hawaii in a few months. He probably has billions of our money stashed away by now plus he can expect someone else to pay for his mansion by the sea and the taxpayers will furnish security service, free medical and a retirement check. For someone who really does not seem to like work at all we have to wonder what he gains by being reelected. Only an utter idiot could think that he would solve any of America’s problems in another four years so why not dump it all on the GOP and then stand on the sidelines and piss and moan like a wounded Kenyan while being paid huge sums to read a teleprompter at some university for fools.

He has said this in the past, it’s in dreams from my real father, on video!

RNC needs that video, with juxtaposed video of a little girl selling lemonade.

Keep switching back and forth, watching the girl smile making a sale, and Obama condemning her.

There are many citizens near to publicly proving publicly Obama was/is not eligible for POTUSA. If there was any support from anyone in the so called Republican party this guy would have been exposed long ago. I didn’t notice Trump at the GOP convention and wonder if his to close to the truth didn’t wash with the king makers. What I do wonder about is what happens when all the history comes out. I will bet there are a lot of untold even nefarious truths about Obama. Perhaps Obama will be a long way on his retirement to Kenya and not Hawaii. The Kenyans might even be a little disappointed if Obama retires to Hawaii and who knows what that might bring out in the open. Obama probably wouldn’t be in a position of power to send two ships loaded with relief supplies to Kenya. Maybe perhaps his friends like Soros could still buy off the Kenyans one way or another. When such happens my disgust at the people old and young will make me vomit to look at them after looking at my WWII service records and the medals of my only brother killed on Okinawa.

Free markets allow greater participation by the People in the economy. Only a fascist would talk like this.

(Art., quoting Obama) "....mortgage lenders that tricked families into buying homes they couldn’t afford, ...."

This is pretty damn brazen, coming from one of the Perps of the First Part, talking about the housing bubble. He was ACORN's of-counsel in the New York case in the late 90's that forced banks to lend to uncreditworthy borrowers for the purpose of buying houses they couldn't afford.

This guy and the rest of his ACORN wrecking-crew were the trick-perpetrators, not the mortgage companies and banks.

Ping to my last -- Barky was there at the creation of the housing bubble. He Cloward-Pivened the whole mortgage-lending industry using Slick Willie's lending laws.

It would not surprise me in the least bit to find out Obama DOES NOT work at all. I do not think he has an inkling what it means to be President, much less the duties which are involved.

The worst choice this country has ever made for head of state, and it was all done in the name of faux white guilt!

Obama and his lying thugs are proof that there is a parallel universe — all socialists live in it.

I think Barky must lie even in his dreams, when he's asleep. He keeps dragooning Theodore Roosevelt into the ranks of orthodox socialism and Marxism-Leninism to support himself and supply his dearth of American precedents. Consider this quote from Obozo's Osawatomie speech of last December:

Now, for this, Roosevelt was called a radical. He was called a socialist – even a communist. But today, we are a richer nation and a stronger democracy because of what he fought for in his last campaign: an eight-hour work day and a minimum wage for women, insurance for the unemployed and for the elderly, and those with disabilities; political reform and a progressive income tax. (Emphasis added.)

He made this same reference during his lying campaign for Obamacare: that Roosevelt in 1912 had campaigned on a platform of Medicare and Obamacare, and that it was up to us to "redeem" Roosevelt's visionary promise.

This was Barky cribbing a Rushmore president to be his stiff, his dime-store Indian testimonial, his (as boilerroom yaks say) "singer".

Whereas in fact Roosevelt's idea was actually much more akin to key-man insurance that has a disability-income or income-continuation plan, that compensates the employer for continuing to pay their disabled man. It was not Sovietcare or Obozocare or any other sovietizing health-insurance plan. Roosevelt never, to my knowledge, ever endorsed such a thing.

And he spat on Communists.

s But Barky knows you don't need to know that.
