Book:Karl Rove advised Komen to restore Planned Parenthood funding
dailycaller.com ^ | 9-10-12 | Alex Pappas

Posted on 09/10/2012 10:59:41 PM PDT by STARWISE

The author of a new book charges that prominent Republican strategist Karl Rove advised the leader of breast cancer group Susan G. Komen for the Cure to restore funding to Planned Parenthood earlier this year.

Rove’s advice, according to “Planned Bullyhood,” came as Susan G. Komen for the Cure found itself embroiled in a public relations fiasco after announcing it would stop giving money to Planned Parenthood, which has clinics that perform abortions.

In response to protests from pro-choice and other liberal activists, Komen eventually reversed course and announced it would restore funding to Planned Parenthood as the organization did not want to be viewed as political.

Karen Handel — the former Komen senior vice president who resigned during the episode — writes in her book, “Planned Bullyhood,” that Rove was among those advising the organization to reverse course.

In the book, Handel recalls Susan G. Komen for the Cure CEO Nancy Brinker telling her that “I’ve talked to a lot of people. And even Karl says we have to backtrack.”

Handel, who said she didn’t know who “Karl” was at first, recalls Brinker clarifying that she was talking about Rove.

“Planned Bullyhood” is being released Tuesday. Steven Ertelt of LifeNews.com reported the revelation in the book on Monday.

If the allegation is true, it would mean that Rove was advising Komen to restore Planned Parenthood funding as Mitt Romney and the other Republican candidates for president were railing against it.

Rove did not immediately return a request for comment from The Daily Caller.

Sadaam never had WMDs in 2003. He was lying. Why? Saddens biggest enemy was Iran the Shites and the Kurds. If they knew he didn’t have WMDS, his regime would be in jeopardy. I’m not saying Bush was lying, he wasn’t. Sadaam was the one lying. Iraq never believed the USA would invade. It was another in Sadaams long line of miscalculations.

If there had never been an Iraq war Obama would not have won, mostly likely Hilary would have. Also it is a 100% certainly that George Allen would have won in 2006. We could have stop Hillarycare2 with the filibuster. Conrad Burns, Mike Dewine and Jim Talent most likely lost cuz of the war. Add Norm Cileman to the list too. Instead of 40 senators we’d have had 45 minimum. Enough to stop any stimulus and any socialized medicine. I also think there would have been friction between Hillary and Pelosi that would have prevented congress and the white house from accomplishing much.

It not cowardly to take a second look at the war and ask ourselves if things would have been better had there been no war.

Say what you will about Beck, but since watching him on his new network where he calls the shots and what is covered, I learn far, far more and can count on his calling out whoever is being a **** and can back it up.

I don’t think he’s “Pro Abortion”. What he is is an absolute political coward. For whatever reason he always seeks the easy way out. Following his advice will lead to disaster after Romney/Ryan win. The Rom/Ry ticket needs to stay focused on tax reform and states rights. The RNC needs to find a way to get Rove retired and to STFU.

I disagree... Rove's joke about Akin pretty much exposes his character. That 'compassionate' conservatism is limited to US allowing the invasion of illegals and paying for their healthcare and education. He is a punk, smart, but still a punk.

Sadaam never had WMDs in 2003.

He certainly had chemical weapons before 2003.

He refused to show how he had gotten rid of them.

What did he do with them, and when?

fox did Beck wrong... in a bad way. I like Beck but we do not always agree. He trashed Clint the morning after the his skit... I didn't agree with him at all... but most of the time I find him very credible and sincere.

So, 500 tons of yellow cake is not WMD or planned for WMD? Or did you conveniently forget about that one too. Just in case you are wondering, it ended up being shipped to Canada for some idiotic reason and that was after Saddam was ousted.

And I suppose you will have no problem facing the survivors of Halabja to tell them that Saddam did not have WMD’s. It takes just the size of a briefcase to hold all the precursors to produce WMD’s but are you also self induced to believe he didn’t have them until the bombs came crashing down. One quick dump into the Tigris and all is forgiven in your world.

Then if you really want a capper on your crap, go to the vets with what was called Gulf War Syndrome and tell them the same thing face to face. I know several personaly if you would like to start a list.

Rove disputes claim he encouraged funding of Planned Parenthood
3:34 PM 09/11/2012

###

Karl Rove told The Daily Caller on Tuesday that he’s disputing a new book claiming he advised the leader of breast cancer group Susan G. Komen for the Cure to reverse course and pledge to start funding Planned Parenthood again.

Reached by phone, the prominent Republican strategist said the charge made by former Komen senior vice president Karen Handel in “Planned Bullyhood” is “not accurate.” He declined to elaborate.

Handel writes that Rove was among those advising Susan G. Komen for the Cure to reverse course earlier this year after announcing it would stop giving money to Planned Parenthood, which has clinics that perform abortions.

Komen eventually announced it would restore funding to Planned Parenthood after finding itself embroiled in a public relations fiasco as pro-choice and other liberal activists protested.

The author recalls Susan G. Komen for the Cure CEO Nancy Brinker telling her that “I’ve talked to a lot of people. And even Karl says we have to backtrack.”

Handel, who said she didn’t know who “Karl” was at first, recalls Brinker clarifying that she was talking about Rove.

Conservatives reacted to the report with disappointment on Tuesday. “Ever had concerns about Karl Rove? Add this to the list,” RedState editor Erick Erickson wrote on Twitter.

If the allegation is true, it would mean that Rove was advising Komen to restore Planned Parenthood funding as Mitt Romney and the other Republican candidates for president were railing against it.

Reached by TheDC, Komen wouldn’t directly address the claim.

“The book, like many books, contains the author’s personal recollections and views about the organization and its leadership,” spokeswoman Andrea Rader said. “We won’t comment on her personal views or her memory of events. We are moving forward and we are completely focused on our mission to end breast cancer and help women worldwide.”

According to the Post, Handel recounts a conversation with Komen CEO and founder Nancy Brinker in the book as follows:

“We’re so sorry,” said Nancy. “We’re so sorry. But we just have to reverse course.” [...]

Nancy’s reply stunned me. “Karen, I’ve talked to a lot of people. And even Karl says we have to backtrack. There’s just no other way.”

“Karl? Who’s Karl?”

She looked at me strangely as if I should know exactly who she was talking about. She said, “Karl Rove!”

Rove today told The Daily Caller that the account was “not accurate” although he did not elaborate for the website when reached by phone. He indicated he was disputing the account.

***FYI

Sadly, Laura Bush is not pro life like her devoutly pro life husband, Pres. George W. Bush.

Laura Bush and Nancy Brinker are long time friends.

Nancy Brinker’s sister, Susan Komen, died at a young age from breast cancer, and Nancy Brinker established the Susan G. Komen charity in her sister’s honor.

When Pres. Bush appointed Nancy Brinker as Ambassador to Hungary and then as White House Chief of Protocol, I’m sure it was because she’s obviously an accomplished professional, AND she’s also a long time family friend, insider and political contributor.

As many years as Karl Rove was part of the Bush family circle and campaigns, there’s NO way he wouldn’t be on very familiar and friendly terms with Nancy Brinker and the Susan G. Komen charity founded by Brinker.

How many more GOP insiders are closet dwellers vulnerable to black mail and nursing real rage towards straight religiously oriented middle Americans who make up the party base? How many? Steve Schmidt?, CJ Roberts? the current NRA President and former ACU President (ever wonder why that organization just deflated over time?) The gay caballeros are just much more numerous inside the beltway and inside politics than say in industrial engineering. More carefully hide in plain sight than are open like Barney Fwank.

In a similar vein, look at what KKKarl said about abortion on O'Reilly last week:

KARL ROVE: And remember, this year, no one is seriously talking about ending abortion.

Which tells you that the Republican party platform isn't "serious." Social conservatives know KKKarl is their biggest enemy next to Barack Obama. Just listen to Steve Deace's radio show. KKKarl is one of the heads of the GOP establishment, who approve of abortion and same-sex marriage. Abortion is nothing new for the GOP establishment. Rush has talked about how 20 years ago a prominent Republican came up to him asking how they can get the "pro-lifers" out of the party because they're "killing us."

The reasons for Rove doing this are simple. 1: The GOP establishment doesn't personally object to legal abortion and same-sex marriage. 2: They wouldn't mind adding the votes of all people who agree with them on abortion and same-sex marriage to the Republican column.

Their plan to get there is to use as much "stealth" as necessary to push abortion and same-sex marriage without making it so prominent in the platform that they lose votes from social conservatives. What this primarily means is making sure abortion and same-sex marriage are not talked about by the right at all so that the left can continue spreading both of them unopposed.

Thanks for the info. Still, “not accurate” is hardly a clear and unequivocal denial. The devil’s often in the parsing. So, I’m in wait and see mode ...

turd blossom
1. (noun) In west Texas, a desert wild flower that grows up out of a meadow muffin.
2. (proper noun) One of G.W. Bush's nicknames for Karl Rove.

Nah, Tokyo Rove is just a turd.

Amen. I do not believe karl rove and this woman had no reason to mention him in this book unless she had spoken with him. He is probably justifying his stance by parsing the words he actually used. How clintonian.

“Sadly, Laura Bush is not pro life like her devoutly pro life husband, Pres. George W. Bush”

Bush believes in murdering the child if you don’t like who the father is, as in rape and incest. This is certainly
not “devoutly pro-life”.

Bush also appointed more openly homosexuals to his administration than any republican president in history. As a matter of fact more homosexuals worked for Bush than Clinton. The smirking, grinning Laura Bush loved it when her husband appointed a sodomite to a high position. The minute Bush was no longer president, she got on the Larry King Show and proudly told him she was PRO-ABORTION AND PRO-HOMO MARRIAGE. Her daughters share the same opinions.
The Bushes are all liberals. Every last one of them. His present to America was current the liberal in chief. If Bush has been a conservative who governed like a conservative, Obummer would not be the president now.
