"WTOPS Ari Ashe is reporting that Prince Georges County is mounting cameras to monitor its traffic cameras. This comes following a half dozen incidents of vandalism and general meanness toward the cameras in the county."
"A camera was actually shot with a gun. Another was set on fire. Those attacks mark a step up in looniness from a man who allegedly fired glass marbles at a Howard County traffic camera earlier this summer."

I often fantasize about using paint balls on the cameras. Way too many cameras and most of the traffic cameras are more about revenue than safety.
I'm wondering if maybe the folks being monitored don't like being monitored. And if they're wondering why a government of, for, and by The People has to monitor every move The People make ...

It is a revenue SAVER as it keeps steroid raging (and over-caffinated) cops from causing the city a costly lawsuit.
If a person had a beat-up old dump truck, say a Ford F-600, it would be fairly simple to just run these cameras over and keep on going.
What’s to stop tgem from attacking the cameras watching the cameras watching traffic cameras? Will they eventually approach infinite regress with cameras to watch cameras to watch cameras...

General meanness? What, people hurt the cameras' feelings?
Six incidences are enough to double the number of cameras? I wonder if a third set will be installed, to watch the second set?
Bwahaha - further demonstration of the idiocy of bureaucrats. Let’s see - everybody finds out and sees that there are cameras watching the traffic cameras, so they destroy the camera that watches the camera, first, then destroy the traffic camera. After that, I’m sure the geniuses in government will say “I know! We’ll put up cameras to watch the cameras that watch the cameras, so nobody can damage the cameras that watch the cameras! Brilliant!”

Okay, but that brings up another question: who watches the watchers who watch the watchers? I assume you’ll answer “More watchers.” Touche. But who watches the watchers who watch the watchers who watch the watchers?
We’ve still got a long way to go if we want to match the diligence of the British in destroying traffic cameras:

The one on the Maryland Highways are really kind of funny - invariably, you will see a “construction - fines doubled” sign, then a blinky, “55 - your speed...”, then a green portapotty, and right in front of the crapper, a white jeep with a plow rig on the front.
It ain’t a plow rig. It is the speed camera.
I enjoy going past them at 54 miles per hour.
Invariably, though, some jackwagon weaves past me at 65, and “FLASH”
Poor sucker is going to get a surprise in the mail.
OBTW, there are 3 of them on I95 between 495 and APG, almost allways in the same place.
Hmmm. perhaps there is a less awkward phrasing that couldn't have multiple meanings. ;)

It’s for our own good!

Good Luck, Hunters ! !

A smart person would take our the monitoring camera first.
I guess they will need cameras to monitor the monitoring cameras.
I just got my first in the mail a few days ago. It is infuriating, isn’t it?
George Washington would have cut them down with his sword!

Wonder who’s going to monitor the cameras monitoring the camera monitors?
I live in NC, and I must admit it is CREEPY that EVERY stop-light in the state of VA now has a camera affixed to it.
When are folks going to realize we are in the process of setting up a totalitarian-fascist state?
Every week I travel from Virginia to Maryland and back. I got two tickets for speeding in construction zones in MD. In both cases there were no workers present (rain and darkness). That’s $80 in fines. I did some research and learned that MD has a 23.5 cent per gallon gas tax. So I decided that to retaliate I would always fill up my tank in Virginia rather than buying gas in MD. That was a while ago, so I’m sure that Maryland has actually suffered a net loss of revenue as a result of my two tickets. Snicker.
Quis custodiet ipsos videocameras?
Sounds like hate crimes against cameras.
You really can't make stuff up.
Fortunately we have government and media employees to do it for us.

Actually the construction cams are times to flash at 67mph. That was posted when they went up. A friend of mone told me the other day that he was going through last week at above 67, saw the Jeep and slowed down, the guy behind him jumped lanes, flooed it and gave my friend the bird out the window, just in time for the speed cam to flash
I get a serious case of the warm fuzzies seeing that someone is fighting back against the statist swine.
Yeah, it’s kind of like seeing the scrawny kid finally sock that bully in the nose, and watching the bully run home crying.
“When are folks going to realize we are in the process of setting up a totalitarian-fascist state?”
If humans continue to be consistent... when it’s too late.
67 in a 65, or a 55?
Yeah, but - they have some things I need for work.
Too bad, but there it is.
I wonder if you could burn out the CCD with a laser?
We’re becoming the Gray State: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gy7FVXERKFE

When are people going to use fire, .22, and/or hammers in dealing with these cameras?
That is my question.
Because no one is smart enough to take out the camera watching the speed camera first ... then the speed camera.
Rudimentary photoshop skills can produce a tolerable (short-term) picture of a license plate. It isn’t that hard to discover the plat number of your local mayor or city councilmoron. It has become a rather common trick to create a fake license plate with the license number of the creep who is responsible for imposing these cameras on us and then speed past one of these cameras.
Rinse & repeat as needed.
Cool hand Luke used a pipe cutter
That could make for an interesting souvenir.
Those cameras are to trigger the changing of the lights based on the presence or not of cars waiting to go through the intersection. It's cheaper to use cameras than to bury sensors in the pavement. I guess there are some places in VA that have red light cameras where you get a ticket if you run the light, but I've lived in VA for 10 years and have never seen one.
Gee, what a bunch of antisocial vandals, with no idea how much they are endangering the motoring public.../SARC

Now an antisocial vandal must first take out the camera watching the camera; then take out the camera...and make sure no cameras are watching the camera watching the camera.
Maryland "Freak State" PING!
Beat me to it!
I’ve been lucky in that regard so far. Of course, I usually don’t do more than 5 above. Do 5 above and you should be fine.
