Bush did not have control of Congress for very long at all. Jeffords saw to that.
Let’s play to win till November 6th. If we win, settle for nothing less than “Full steam ahead!”
Of course we all are aware of that typical overworn GOPe “logic.” It’s common knowledge that they think like that. I am criticizing them anyway.
By their logic we can never fight at all, because the time is never going to be “right.” Heaven forbid, the DEMS and their minions might call us bad!
We have lost ground over and over and over again with that thinking. It is time to fight fascism! Period. Do what’s right and make a case for it and sell it. Or make a case for what’s right and sell it first, THEN do what’s right! Either way, do what’s right.
By the way, this situation was no surprise. The need for that CR has been coming a long time, but nothing was done to educate the public about the changes needed. And no changes were made. The GOPe doesn’t really want the “ACA” changed in the first place, so “the time is not right” argument is just so convenient as an excuse.
I sincerely hope we do not have to say “we told you so” on this. Sometimes things work out, even with the stupid GOPe interfering. But even if this retreat does happen to work on this one skirmish, that kind of frightened acquiescence mis-educates and mis-trains our anti-fascist forces to fight in a manner that will not work to win the broader war. It’s been tried over and over again, and it has not worked.
(Think about that this Autumn while “they” refuse to let Paul Ryan use his natural gifts and channel Winston Churchill in educating the public about why we need to do the right thing, all so that that Mitt Romney can channel Neville Chamberlain because the “nice” GOPe advises him that it’s more prudent to compromise. How did that campaign style work out for McCain/Palin?)
Please explain, how can a “continuing resolution” pay for new things? I thought a CR was just renewing last year’s spending plus a hefty inflation adjuster.
“i guess you duntno that the house has sole the power of the purse strings. all funding must originate in the house.”
If the bill contains a tax, instead of the way it is currently written, the bill will have to reflect that. The bill will need to be reconciled in both houses to rewrite it. But you knew that. This CR did nothing to push it forward. And you knew that. Didn’t you?
perhaps they voted to not give the democrats ammo prior to the election... i will give harris the benefit of the doubt on this... but his embrace of life as an elitist makes me tend to think that he should go.

Does anyone have a list of which members voted for it? I want to know if my Rep voted for it...
Thanks!
wrong. several bills have been put forward in this congress to defund obamacare from the house. see King and Bachmann’s bill for instance. boehner and cronies killed it.
Yep OK. The bill that can only be killed by challenging the language in the portions that creates exchanges (yet to be established) and in which no one has standing to challenge as of now, has somehow magically been defeated. Too bad.
Here in my country, you can pass tax legislation with just the house, but the two chambers need to agree on legislation and the bill as it is written has been declared a tax not a legislative piece of spending. Will that pass the house today? No. It must, as legislation, pass the test and must be renegotiated with correct language in BOTH houses of Congress. If the tax language stays in (because they will never pass this turkey again without that change) THEN it can be challenged and overturned when it is implemented and taxee number one brings suit in which he will have standing to do so.
Without the commerce clause (a major coup for Roberts) they have no bill. They can vote twenty times and it doesn’t matter. When they try to levy a tax created by using legislative process, it will be killed.
Good night.
