Boston Molasses [Even JENNIFER RUBIN Thinks Romney Campaign Is Floundering!]
Washington Post ^ | 09/16/2012 | Jennifer Rubin

Posted on 09/17/2012 9:16:29 AM PDT by KentTrappedInLiberalSeattle

The problem — and there is one — in the Mitt Romney camp is not the lack of policies or the wrong policies. In fact the campaign has accumulated sensible conservative policies on everything from Medicare reform to energy development to Israel. But policy in a presidential campaign can’t be an end in itself. There is no prize for best white papers and most eloquent e-mail releases. If a campaign is too cautious, too afraid of a misstep, too anxious to retreat when the mainstream media howl, too slow to utilize the stories of the day and too intent on trimming its sails, the campaign will not succeed.

The frustration in the conservative movement is not with Romney’s positions nor even with Romney himself, who has earned the admiration of the base both because of his exemplary personal character and because of his nerviness in selecting as his running mate Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.).

When a big event occurs (e.g., a credit downgrade, more than 20 embassies under siege) the campaign will churn out an e-mail. Maybe a speech but in a few weeks. This is not the optimal way to run a presidential campaign in a 24/7 new media environment.

There are at least five things the campaign is doing or not doing that dull and dampen its message and drive conservatives nuts.

Heh, Rubin was one of those DC bubble dwellers who insisted that Romney was the only electable GOP candidate out there...ad nauseum.

Romney sliced the GOP running in the primaries and is dancing around Obama. No wonder he is toast.

Ignore the media. It’s the 0bama Team meme of the day.

Please ignore the MSM, and continue with your regularly scheduled life.

Note the two-prong attack being executed by the Media:

If an embassy in Libya is attacked, Romney jumps up and makes a quick, strong statement.
Media reaction: that's exactly the wrong thing to do. That's gonna hurt the campaign.

Many things happening all at once, Romney takes a measured, statesmanlike approach in preparing a careful statement.
Media reaction: that's exactly the wrong thing to do. That's gonna hurt the campaign.

Media folks have to make the world change every morning they wake up. It’s just part of the job.

Romney is at a big disadvantage in that anything he does or says, the media is going to make it a ‘mistake’.

The real critical point is going to be the debates when the two are side-by-side. If Romney appears as a credible president who isn’t a ‘fanatic’, the polls will shift similar to Carter/Reagan.

In the end, it will all come down to whose voters turn out and the poll that comes closest to guessing this, will be the most accurate. The ground game of campaigns is invisible to polling.

Jennifer Rubin -- who all but worships, grovelingly, at the sandaled feet of Mitt Romney -- is now part of "the 0bama Team?" Really?

Really -- ?!?

Why do FReepers keep pointing to the Wa Post as authority on anything other than liberal trash?

Give it a break - the WaPo is worthless

May you all crash and burn, you Obama-licking sycophants.

sorry but i believe a lot of this is true...

fact is the American people DON’T want or think obama deserves a second term yet at the same time has Romney done enough for people to vote for him rather than vote against obama??? granted i’m all for the latter but I’m neither an undecided nor independent...

i despise obama and his policies yet the fact remains during the ‘08 campaign that POS was out there giving foreign policy speeches, economic speeches, etc- granted it was all BS and the gullible electorate bought it- but has Romney done anything of that to date???

the Romney campaign has announced he will give speeches the rest of the month detailing his plans- its about time...this could be the game changer for Romney and i surely pray it is- but the fact is Romney has not done enough to pull the undecideds into his corner...

Rubin has been single-mindedly (read: fanatically) championing Mitt Romney for the past six years, now.

"Obama-licking sycophant." Please.

Devoted Obama sycophant Kent once again feverishly pimping for Obama

Go read Rubin’s columns during the Primary. She systematically sabotaged every conservative candidate for Romney and now is doing her best to sabotage Romney. There is a reason that she is the Washington Posts token “conservative”.

The Democrats have a simple and effective theme....
VOTE FOR US AND WE WILL GIVE YOU MONEY.

The Republicans need a theme that is just as simple and effective
VOTE FOR US OR THERE WON’T BE ANY MONEY TO GIVE YOU.

The average American voter doesn’t understand macroeconomics, but he/she sure understands how much it costs them to buy stuff. What does it cost you to fill up your gas tank now versus before Obama? What could you buy with the money you would have if these Democrats were gone? The price of everything has gone up under Obama. Don’t talk dollars, talk stuff.
“Why, I could afford that new larger tv if I just didn’t have to pay so much for everything else. The Democrats are making me poor.”

On the left, sleight of hand is being replaced with sleight of mouth.

Several articles today have dealt with “how the Romney campaign is faltering”...which is so convenient to cover up the massive f***-up obama just had in the middle east.

But, Romney could run the worst campaign in history, but those of us who are tired of the obama dog and pony show are still going to vote against obama.

Romney is not, and has never been my first choice, but I’m in the ABO (anybody but obama) mode right now, and that’s where I’ll come down at election time.

But, I’m ignoring all of the left’s “your guy is doing really bad” meme, it’s just more psy ops.

Ignore the media. It’s the 0bama Team meme of the day.

The economy is in shambles, the middle east is in flames, Obama is AWOL, and the media is marking down Romney on style points.
