The problem is social security is a ponzi scheme. It's promising to pay out more in benefits than it ever collected. We need to find the revenue to keep current promises that people planned on, but we need to quickly change the system to private accounts for future retirees or it will not be sustainable.
Exactly! But many of the simpletons in congress look to balance the budget by cutting thing like 401K and other tax deferred retirement programs. This is extremely short sighted and if people have no retirement savings to live on in their old age, guess who will end up supporting them - their [not so] rich uncle - Uncle Sam!
